So, I'm glad that Comcast is using my cable card and remapping the channels to digital streams, as that will take less storage on my system, and won't need to re-encode anything...
however, I'm not getting any guide data since the card went in. VBI test passes, I'm not sure what's going on. I get the clock updates... am I crazy? It looks like Comcast left that channel on an analog for exactly this reason, as analog channel 97 on Comcast isn't really PBS. So, they've used an un-designated channel in the cable card to map to analog 2.
I would think everything would be perfectly fine, but for some reason it's not.
Is a full factory reset just a last ditch effort? Is there something else I can do? Should I turn on every single channel? I don't have my host channel turned off.
You are correct. Your area is on digital simulcast and your card has been provisioned as digital with a single analog channel that will deliver TVGOS data.
Don't drive yourself crazy with resets, etc. You have two choices at this point:
1) Insist that your cableco find out why channel 97 is not passing guide data properly. Your VBI test passes, but something is wrong with the cableco's equipment or setup.
2) Ask the cableco to provision your card as analog. You will lose some quality on analog channels, but you will receive your guide data properly, just as you did without the card. When they figure out the problem with 97, you can go back to digital provisioning.
The card can be hit remotely to make the change (with the unit ON). If the change doesn't take effect after a reboot, you MAY have to remove and reinsert the card, which necessitates re-doing your guide channel order, etc. I think that is what I had to do when I had a situation similar to yours several months ago.
