i hate mid-season breaks..

It makes sense at the holidays. Most shows do it

I miss the usual Christmas episode which they seem not to do anymore. JAG had 2 or 3 of them over the series and that was not that long ago.
I thought they did do a Christmas episode this year before the break...

Meanwhile, NCIS is new this coming week.

It was even called "Newborn King". Not exactly subtle.

Ej is back, finally, they might actually get to the plot line.

nevermind..messed up

Anybody besides me disappointed in last nights episode? I thought it was a great story line but it came off to me as "Oh yea we need to finish this out and did it as an afterthought.

I have enjoyed all the shows some a whole lot more than others and last nights is WAY down on the list.

Damn it, Dinozzo almost had Ziva there... bad timing phone call I guess..

I guess the "big 8" plot line is gone? took one episode to wrap it up..

I was thinking about this driving into work this morning. I used to love this show, but I think it's definitely seen it's better days. The writing, if you really pay close attention week to week, has gotten really lazy and they know people will watch as long as they slap it on tv in that time slot with that name. I wouldn't mind seeing the show do a nice send off next year and end on a high note. Otherwise I fear it's going to overstay it's welcome in 2-3 years.

writers must like the letter "J".. There is EJ on NCIS,then AJ on Criminal Minds,etc..
It's J.J. , A.J. is her real name.. (I wonder why some people only use their initials? Andrea Joy is a nice name, on the credits and everywhere else she uses A.J.

Maybe she even suggested being called J.J. on the show..

Thought the wrap up was lazy and if they go back to the Gibbs' Mexico sniper hit again after that was closed out, then it would appear that the writers are really running on empty. E.J. is the least believeable character to date. Most of her team would have made better leaders and her going AWOL without repercussions lacked all credability. I have always liked the show, but I see sunset coming if they can't pump things up. Another failed romance by any character due to nefareous motives by a suitor will be most disappointing. That plot line has played out way too often. Some characters more than once. I'm hoping Zeva's "romance" doesn't follow the formula, but its either that or CIRay gets killed.

Was it just me or did last night's episode (via Directv, NY CBS) look the worst it's ever looked? Commercials looked fine, but wow, NCIS looked terrible.

And I don't mean just soft, like it's always looked. It looked really, really bit-starved, artifacts and blocking everywhere.

Mine was fine, Dtv in the DFW area

So why is NCIS still rated the #1 show on TV if you think its best day are behind it?

I thought last night's episode was pretty good. At least Tony & Zeva started showing a little chemistry (till the phone rang).

The LA version is going to be interesting this season. That dude going up against Hedy is going down, I predict.

They sure did a wham, bam, thank you ma'am wrap up of that sub plot.

Because it has a big audience that has been keeping it at #1 for several years now. Also the demos for it like many CBS shows skew older so those folks are less likely to drop out of the show.

But I don't think the quality of the episodes is what it was in seasons 3-6 which to me is when the show really started to find itself.

It's too much of a formula for me. Opening scene is 90% of the time the victim being found dead or dropping dead.

They always have the scene of them standing around the big plasma screen to discuss the victim and who he was. That scene alone annoys me now.

What keeps me watching the show is the interaction of the main characters, the plot of the week is totally secondary.

That's why it's still #1. The picked the right type of characters to be in the show and got lucky with the people who play them. Part of the luck (at first) was having good writers. Once they got going they were smart enough to not ruin a good thing and they found good people to replace those that left. And they know their demographic is not the ADD generation so if they slack off on the quality acting and character interaction, they viewers will leave in droves - unlike many other "popular" shows.

True.

But I'm still ticked they killed Mike Franks
post #1077 of 1664
Maybe he just wanted out of the show. Although, it was not like he was "full time".

Yeah he was only doing 2-3 episodes a year and also doing other shows (Prison break season 1 etc).
again on the show, even though the episode was not the best. She's gorgeous.

I agree with the writing getting lazy. The part that stood out to me was EJ pointed out to Tony that he and Ziva would make a great couple. Tony acted shocked. Like that thought had never occurred to him.

But in the past, they've suggested that they've slept together in the past (the episode where they took a prisoner from Europe. Tony told McGee that he took the couch, but Ziva told Abby, that she took the couch). And even if you ignore that, they've been hinting at a relationship between the two for years. It's practically impossible that Tony's never thought of them being a couple.

I would guess they will never actually become a couple until the series is over, though. Don't know how they could get it to work with them being part of a team together while also being a couple.
