I apologize for my lack of knowledge about the history of Czechoslovakia. It was not my intention to offend the people of the Czech Republic.
You, however, are a troll. I think your original question was disingenuous.
You came in here baiting those who would read your post by postulating that somehow we live in fear of the media and government. It is simply not true.
|The only point I would differ is that our President isn't the "elected" leader of the free world, but rather the elected leader of our country and by our country's leadership in the world, he becomes the (generalized) leader of the rest of the free and semi-free world.
I apologize about the comment about the "elected leader of the free world". Obviously I mis-spoke. You said it better.
|Sorry, but your willingness could be caused not by the love for freedom and liberty, but by a the simple fact that you want to stabilise the situation in oil producing countries to feed you enormous wastefull economy.
Are we wasteful? Certainly. Is your cynicism justified? Maybe. Should we do better? Of course. However, think of the loss of freedom that could occur were those who were inclined to take away liberty also in control of the flow of oil. What then? Stepan, I applaud your grandfather. I am sad for your family. Losing a loved one, even in the cause of freedom IS a tragedy. Consider this: If oil were to be controlled by those would take away your liberty has your grandfather died in vain?
|Willie, That arrogant, chip on the shoulder attitude that most of us Americans have is why the rest of the world doesn't like us very much. I really don't blame them.
I don't mean to be arrogant. I do get p***** when someone from another country poses a question which is really a thinly vailed criticism based on a movie that is specious at best. Also, I do mean to stress how precious our freedom is. I have had ancestors die in wars dating back to the Revolutionary war. I have friends who died in Vietnam; friends who will be emotional cripples because of their experiences in the gulf. The rest of the world may not like us very much, but what will be their reaction be if the oil runs out and we can't help? Or they lose their freedom and we can't help?
What if you and Mike did not have the freedom to be Cowboy fans? (OK, that was a bit of trolling myself)
I'll leave it alone now. I promise never again to enter into political debate in the CRT forum, just the merit of CRT over digital.
