Sound problems-Discovery & WGN-Comcast Southfield, MI

For a while the sound from WGN has been coming from just the right speaker, and recently the Discovery Channel (not HD) has become all but mono. There's barely any sound coming from the left and right speakers on this channel when any dolby surround mode is being used, and what sound that does come out is distorted. This is happening on both of my boxes (digital and dvr) and with different receivers and speakers. And yes I have made sure that the optimal sound setting in the cable box is set to YES.

Comcast is coming out next week. But since it on both boxes and on just two channels, I think that it's something on their end. Are these sound problems happening on satellite and other cable systems besides Comcast of Southfield Michigan? And are there any other Comcast of Southfield customers experiencing this too?

that's because it's a mono signal. turn off decoding and you'll hear it from l/r

Let me clarify. Discovery Channel would broadcast in stereo depending on the programming, now it's all mono; I've checked it with headphones. Their other channels (times, military, etc.) are stereo. WGN is in the right channel only no matter what the programming is. This was verified by disconnecting the right audio cable from my cable box and hearing nothing. My other cable box is connected digitally to my receiver and it's still right channel only.

As far as asking people in my building, well let me say this. Years ago I asked a Circuit City sales manager if a paticular television had S-Video inputs, she said, "Yes, it has stereo video. It makes it so that you can see a better picture with both eyes." I'm not kidding. That manager knows more about audio and video than my neighbors. So in answer to your question CCarncross, no.

A neighbor that you are friendly with could easily confirm the WGN problem, if you arent friendly with ANY neighbors, then you have a problem...thats no way to go through life.
