Ok, I think I've seen other people posting about this, but I just experienced it tonight.

It can happen that people's names on your own team will show RED!

I know this because I was just shooting a guy who was sneaking around our base... As soon as I killed him I got kicked out of the game for excessive teamkilling. He had to have been on our team and just spawned in - I wondered why he wasn't shooting back. And I know for a fact his name appeared as RED.

Anyone else experience this? I was playing a medic, my whole being was to HEAL my teammates. To be banned from a server for teamkilling makes me sick. :(

ditto that, headrusch.

Because I couldn't play my newly-purchased game at the office, I browsed the manual. Did anyone notice that gun rounds can ricochet off of tanks and end up being tk's? Food for thought.

They appear to be peoples kids, or friends of friends of people on the forum.

I'd like to game with people that actually participate in other forums than just the Home Theater Gaming Forum.

A TRUE AVS clan.

Policy, you bring up some valid issues, but you also miss the mark completely regarding the folks that regularly play matches with us. I'll give you the fact that yes, there are plenty of obnoxious 13 year old out there playing Halo. All I know is every Friday and Saturday night for the past four months that I log on, I can count on at least ten to twenty REAL TEAM AVSers being online, and having some really ridiculous times. In regards to playing with people who participate in other forums, well you know that we have at least two if not three mods that are very regular to AVS matches. I'm not looking for an argument, or any kind of hostility here, in fact its just the opposite. My take is that why start a "new" AVS team, when there is already a living, breathing, and very active one out there. Anyone is welcome to join us, we do not limit our gaming to Halo. Granted, that is the game of choice at the moment, but we enjoy many titles. Like someone above stated, its about the commradary developed just as much as the game itself. I invite you, and anyone else interested to give our community a shot. Be it hopping on one night for some late night fraggin, or even watching some of our crazy videos on the site. I think you guys here dont realize exactly how much hard work and dedication all our members put into all thing team AVS related. I think we have a good opportunity to expand both groups into one larger one, and for the benefit of all.

The question is, what do you see as a resolution to this issue? Obviously any reference to an AVS team refers to avsforum.com however only recently have you guys taken it to the next level.
Even I assumed team AVS with respect to the thread, was for Halo.

Obviously you want us to all stick together in some regard so how can we accomplish this so everyone is happy?

All this thread really is for is so we can all play together in Battlefield 2. So what is the solution?
It's probably not my place but I think that the original AVS has outgrown this forum. Over the months the AVS guys have stayed together and have had fun and have put together a nice area so we can all expound on more than just gaming from a home theater perspective.
We are all members here which brought us together and we want to keep it together so I guess the invite is out there if you guys want to take our gaming together to the next level then come over to betraythis.com.
We DO have a lot of fun and it would be great if we could all have one organized place that meets our needs and we can all still discuss the usua stuff here.

Sounds good JBH! In the meantime, I started a thread over there:
http://betraythis.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=721#721

For now you can use that. JBH, can you make a PC gaming area as opposed to a BF2 area?

I guess I was merely extending an invitation for users here to get involved with our community to supplement this one. I would like to see more people participating online, and I'm sure folks here would love to have a place to put together videos, content, etc to further their online gaming experiences. I know I speak for all of the guys over at our site when I say we'd be happy to welcome anyone interested. Hell, I'll personally set up a Battlefield area for you guys. I'll leave it at that.

I dunno but I played earlier tonight and got to experience the real cheap side of the game. SpawnSnipers in every single location, save the home base. I'd spawn, and die. Spawn, and die....Spawn, and die. I finally spawned as a sniper and tried to take out the other sniper, but could barely hit him.....I eventually gave up and watched as their well organized groups overran us endlessly...we had no commander, and nobody on the teams was talking or following orders.

Lame...utterly lame...

Lighter colored guys are US...darker colored guys are the MEC forces, thats the easiest way to tell. In a vehicle I suggest you either look at the MAP quickly to see if whats in front of you is RED or BLUE...(Red is your enemy nomatter what side you are on).......

As for shooting, each gun is different. The longer you hold your trigger the more your shots spread out in a "cone"....the weapons in this game aren't particularly accurate unless you fire off quick bursts. Also, note that the ASSAULT class..who can't do damage to armor...is quite lethal on the ground, so most of the time if you're getting killed by other players with one or two shots they are usually assault or Special Forces players who have accurate and deadly guns.

I've found it frustrating to be prone with a Squad Automatic Weapon, deployed with iron sights up...and opened up on a guy charging me..only to see him avoid ALL my fire and pop me once in the head...and keep on going.

I attribute this to a guy whos played this game and its predecessors alot before me..and I need to adapt my game style....but also the SAW weapons aren't as effective as they should be.

rage, are you playing on a computer monitor or a PC? It's possible there is a problem similar to the one I had there.

I have my HTPC hooked up directly thru DVI to my Hitachi. Im gonna try VNC and see if i can get in to the settings with my office computer.
My take: we are all AVS'ers. I have personally been a member of AVS Forum for quite some time. It is really great to find people with one like interest (HT), who turn out to have another like interest (gaming). We have been rather Halo2 centric, but that's changing. We hope to evolve into gaming on many fronts.

There seems to be some idea that some of "us" don't like "anyone else" using the name AVS in a "clan" like manner. I'm not sure how that happened, but it's patently untrue. Anyone who's an AVS'er has as much right as the next guy.

If/when you guys feel like expanding (and surely as you are starting out, you don't see any reason to currently), keep us in mind. That other site is a "home away from home". Nothing will replace AVS Forum for myself and many others.

Cheers,
Martin.
Well VNC didnt work either so if anyone has any ideas or can just send my over a settings file with 1776x1000 resolution already selected it would help.

The reason they want a different clan is for a different game. I dont know what you would call Real Team AVSers. Oh wait you mean the 20 people that only play halo 2 with you.

I play every night. Not halo 2 but an assortment of games. If you want people to consider the clan a multi game clan you need to alter your website. I mean invite people to games other than H2. Take a listing of games people play and start a match or something everynight of something different. Change the look to coincide with this.

That's pretty much what I was suggesting, they need like a PC area and more discussion of other games too. I think they were headed that route but the whole BF2 thing probably came a bit unexpected.

i have tried it with a normal monitor along side the hitachi and no change. I could try it with only the monitor, however that always screws up my x850 with its driver.
also right click the bf2 icon and change the fullscreen 1 to a zero so you can see what the error is rather than just crashing.

This game is MASSIVELY buggy. I am trying a driver update now, but it was running fine, I backed into a room, and it hard crashed on me (Well, I was able to close the program and get back to Windows, but the program was toast).

The acceptable video card list is HECKUVA small. My 6600GT AGP is NOT acceptable, however the PCIe version is (Which makes NO sense).

I have found the files that TALK about resolutions rage, but there is nothing like HL2 where you can select it, you can modify what the resolution for high, medium, and low defaults are.

I was referring to the people I've found playing in the AVS clan. Most of the people in that ENORMOUS list are NOT in anyway related to this forum. They don't post here, and if they do most of them post nowhere else other than in the Team AVS thread. I think an AVS only BF2 clan is a GREAT idea.

On the other hand, I'd like to get some REALLY serious people involved, people that understand combat roles. I'm probably in the minority but certainly some of you in here want to specialize as pilots, as drivers, as snipers, as strategists, etc.? If so, count me in. I'm in for fun playing as well. My problem is that I can so rarely play on the weekends, unless we set something up for during the day.

let me know.

Also, Rage if you figure out a way to make custom resolutions, let me know.

Guess my only options left are to update my video drivers and try a regular monitor.

Dean,

I have pretty much the same issue as you, only when i go to the game, my tv goes blank and i get the blue screen of death. Not fun. And since this office computer has an Nvidia 420 in it or something, i cant run the game on here either. :(
post #86 of 308
What kind of sound card do you have? I don't have a creative card, but EAX was checked. After I unchecked it I had no problems, other than the game skipping because of my crappy onboard sound.

Well I do have an x850 and I did get it to run. You can ty to change the command line but something else doesn't seem quite right.
I would definitely upgrade your catalyst drivers if you have not done so and go step by step through the tweaking article over at IGN.
Run ccleaner.com's crap cleaner and make sure you defrag and all that good stuff too.
Also run the game in a window like I said & see if you get a specific error code.

This game isn't particularly buggy........its got a few hiccups but its definately not buggy. Buggy means people put it down and walk away until a patch comes out. What this game does require are updated drivers for both video and audio.

Thats just a list of hardware they have tested....your 6600AGP should run fine.
The only limiting factor on the cards is that i THINK the videocard HAS to have 128megs of Vram minimum, and it has to support some of the advanced DX9 shader models that older hardware can't do. I'm sure thats going to piss off alot of people but, frankly, the game with its shadow models and textures really does look sweet with all the eyecandy going on.

True, its interface is receiving serious hits due to its clunkiness.....which is true.
In the demo there are errors in the keymapping where I try to map a key, it tells me its already mapped, when its absolutely not.....

I dont think I want to play on a team that forces me to play one particular class.
I tend to be the guy who sticks with support (to re-arm) but lately I've been having fun playing engineer and TRYING to be a decent team lead, by keeping waypoints updated and such. If I see we're in a situation where we are being over-run by armor, I spawn as engineer (mines) or AT......if I am on the beach with alot of troop combat, I go support or Assault.....I pick my guy depending on the situation. But I wouldn't want to play the whole game as a HELO pilot or a JET pilot because unless you OWN the server, you're likely to get the typical people who hop in the first vehicle they find, take off, then blow up 8 seconds later :)

Oh yeah, and I can't play sniper for shiznit.......unless your target is absolutely standing still I can't hit them. The only snipers I see getting kills are the jerks who spawn-snipe......which was a problem on several servers I was on yesterday.

The roof of that large warehouse on the beach is apparrantly a great place to drop snipers..they can snipe people spawning into the beach bases and they can shoot right inside the construction site. You appear and immediately die. Lame.
As far as spawn killing...its part of the game. regardless if its done by snipers/arty/AC/tanks/apc/mines or grunts with machine guns..if u know after one time u get killed then dont spawn at that site. Arty that rains down on spawn pts, AC carpet bombing the carrier along with arty...snipers....its all part of the game.

HeadRusch (dont take this personally)
Snipers denies the enemy from getting into a cohearsive fighting unit. Tie down pple to hunt them. Their job is to disrupt the enemy's ability to coordinate and thus their effectiveness and this is usually at their rally site (spawn). If the sniper does the job, then the enemy should be pissed. If u cant snipe and dont feel right about doing then dont do it. Snipers are in the game for that reason so pple stop whining about snipers....what BF2 should do is what is done in JO. When u spawn u are unkillable (spawn armour) for a few seconds thus allowing u to get oriented but then if u stand around u are a fair target (esp when u start sighting for targets and shooting). Remember most snipers in BF2 dont belong to a squad, thus they have limited ammo and slow rate of accurate fire, also they are easy to kill since they have no armour vests. Their view angles when scoped are very limited and most cant shoot well (so far)....but a good sniper along with a support unit ( to provide ammo and security) can be a tough team to beat if played correctly. Normally when I hear a single shot I start looking for snipers in all the typical hiding spots. So many players never look up (or down), they just scan around them and get sniped again and again. Also from the other side, when ur a sniper and u get a near or non fatal hit it means u r prob spotted, so move/run, but if the enemy is close u r toast...as a sniper u are provide with claymores. They are great if u are a lone wolf , they provide u with backdoor protection. Also never rush into a friendly snipers position, most snipers pref to be alone unless ur part of the team, u'll prob get clay'd (even tho the friendly clays are marked with the red skull/crossbones if u bother to even looked).

EDIT: I see so many snipers that shoot and shoot and shoot at the same target (which I am guilty of when trying to get another sniper) , thus they giving their positions away. Rule for snipers is try for 1 shot 1 kill or at most 2 shots since the sniper guns are underpower in BF2.. dont shoot unless u have a clear shot, moving targets are a waste of ammo, unless u are trying to save a friendly. Aim for the head... drops them everytime :D
