Record DVD or VHS onto DVR?

Hi... I just got a DCT6412 from Comcast. I'd really like to know if I can record a DVD onto the DVR for future viewing without the DVD? Same goes for VHS. If there is a way, could I have basic step-by-step instructions? Any help would be much appreciated!

Ok, thanks. Thats a bummer though... would be nice to have a collection of DVD's on your DVR hard drive. Oh well... thanks again.

there's a usb port . . . .
also, i've been shopping for a new laptop and am considering a g4 mac, mostly because it has the ability to record, burn, and play hd.
i''m a neophyte with all of this . . .
anyone out there who has figured out how to use the comcast dvr to facilitate burning dvd?
or do you know a way to hook into a receiver to achieve the access?
thanks

The USB port isn't used on the box - its planned for adding inputs like a keyboard, not a video output. The way to record a program from the DVR is to play the program and use the analog composite or s-video 480i output and use a video capture board/device on the computer to capture downconverted 480i video and stereo analog audio with software that encodes it to DVD-compatable 720x480 MPEG2 format and then use DVD authoring software to prepare the files for burning for a DVD-video.

However the starter of this thread doesn't want to record a program from the DVR to an external device - he wants to go the other way, record a program on the DVR from a DVD or VCR as the source.

I am coming to you as an expert. How can I achieve superior sound using a DVD recorder. A DVD recorder only has the red & white inputs, and a stereo VCR only has the red & white as well. My question is could I route these two wires thru a stereo or home theater system and achieve better sound quality? Please elaborate as much as possible. Thank You.
