hey rjoyer,

I would recommend Denon, Onkyo, Integra anything but Pio Elite.

My Pio Elite had MCACC which I felt was worthless. The ones I mentioned use Audyssey which I feel is much better. When I correctly set my system up with Audyssey, it actually sounded good.

I also agree with Mj's comments.

Hi all,

Is there a list of Paradigm's product models, and versions, with dates?

The more I read here and other places, the more I need a damn scorecard.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike K

If they are version 4 you should jump on it for sure. If they are version 1 or 2 you should be able to talk him down. My monitor 3s sound great. If you put some nice power on them they can get really loud. I have a small room and my little denon 75 x 7 receiver had them sounding pretty good. I upgraded to the studio 20s and I really think that the monitors were very similar in sound. Of course the studios sound better but they were alot more expensive. I think you would like the monitor 5s alot. A cc370 would make a nice combo for a 3.1 setup.

They are probably only version 1 or 2 because they only have 1 woofer and 1 tweeter. Here are a couple of pictures...

Let me know what you think

Nice set up and I love that TV!

Due to WAF circumstances, I am going to have to use a Millenia 20 as the cc in a 5.1 set up, as it will have to fit on a mantle above our fireplace and below our tv. Anyone have any experience with the Millenia 20 and the Studio 20's? Will they pair well?

Finally, I am agonizing over which AVR to get. I need HDMI 1.4a compatibility, but beyond that, don't really care much about features. I have been looking at the Pioneer Elite VSX 32 and the Integra 40.2. Anyone have any thoughts about how these receivers would mate with my proposed set-up, positive or negative? I have owned Pioneer Elites in the past, but have no experience with Onkyo or Integra products, so I'm probably leaning towards the Pioneer unless there is some strong argument to pay the additional ~$200 or so bucks. Many thanks in advance for the help/guidance/feedback.

This is interesting as I haven't visited here for a very long time, but recently was asked to do a system for a friend with this set up.
He has no room for a center channel so I've had to go with the Millenia 20 as well.
I originally started out with SE1's for the fronts, but had a issue with them and moved up to the 10's.
Needless to say I am NOT a fan of the Millenia. It's colored, and muddy in the mid-range.
It was a closer match to the SE's than it is to the 10's, but it's boxy and chesty compared to the either pair of the fronts. I don't know if they run their x-over's too high into the mid-range from the mid-bass, but somethings awry.

I also will be running a Pioneer receiver and am hoping the MCACC will help.
I have had good results from running MCACC before.

In my post above I mentioned Paradigm's SE1 speakers. I'm wondering if anybody who has them has experienced the problem I have.

On first listen, I heard a buzzing from the woofer when in motion. Almost as if the something was touching the back of the driver during movement. I took it back to the shop and they discovered that the front baffle had a gap where it sits on the cabinet face of the enclosure. Air was escaping and causing the noise.
So the dealer replaced it and I brought the new one home only to discover the other speaker of the original pair had started doing the same thing.
Another trip to the dealer which confirmed the same problem. By this time I was done and stepped up to the Studio 10's.

Just wondering if anybody has these and has experienced this as well?

I probably asked wrong.

I did look on the Paradigm site and found nothing like what I am looking for. Google was the usual nightmare.

Because I am considering new and up-model pre-owned, I'd like to better understand what paradigm did when to which models. Is there any reference document some one can point to that might explain the last 5 or 6yrs of Paradigm product development?

Again, Thanks

Mike

Spiff69,

Don't we all ALWAYS answer in the affirmative THAT Question?

I just posted that I got new paradigm speakers. Has anyone tried bi amping their monitor 9 speakers? I got a pioneer elite receiver that does 130 a channel. Will that be too much power to bi amp with? Thanks

There is no such thing as too much power.
Do I just take the power from the surround back channels? And take off the clips for bi amping on the binding posts. There is a top pair and bottom pair of binding posts for the speaker. Which pair should I send the surround back too? Also my receiver does have a bi amping option in the setup

Most people feel that bi amping channels from the same avr makes no difference since they are using power from the same power supply.

Will it make a difference for stereo music?

If you want more bass from them set them to large so they get the full range of frequencies.

As Far as bi amping from an AVR. If your AVR is capable of maintaining its ratings to all channels, you will probably benefit from it.

I own SE1's and I have never noticed any "buzzing".. How much and what kind of power were you feeding them?
