Going to pick up the monitor series 7 center 3 this weekend. will be paired with my series 7 mini monitors and Klipsch RW-12D. All speakers, desktop, PS2 slim, 47inch LED TV are connected and being powered by an Onkyo TX-NR809 A/V receiver.

I know how big the room is will be a big factor but are there standard lengths these 3 speakers should be from each other (excluding the sub)? My bedroom is about 16x15. Both mini monitors are placed on top of desk and dresser raised about 4-4.5ft from the ground, 12 ft apart from each other. Do I want to lower the mini monitors? They are a little below ear height when I stand up to them (I am 5'7). I am 90% of the time sitting at my desk to the left of the TV and right next to the front left mini monitor. The sub is placed in the left corner wall. The center channel will be placed right in front of TV about 3 ft from the ground. still need to figure a way to raise the TV so the center doesn't obstruct the view.

I don't plan to purchase surrounds anytime soon.

Any advice or recommendations on changing position is welcomed. Or advice on hardware.

Hey guys I have a huge issue (for me that is). I have a Sig C3 and it appears as if something is wrong with it. At present the dialogue sounds quite muffled, boxy and reverberated. Now, I switched the BDs to ensure it was not just that particular BD. next, I took the left front and inserted it into the centre speaker connections in the receiver and just as suspected, it played perfectly through the left channel. I checked the speaker wire and switched back the C3 to the center and played the dialogue again and there it was again, that muffled sound, with a touch of "noise" ( best I could describe it) in it. So I am wondering, which part of the speaker is causing this trouble? Is it the woofers, tweeter or midrange? I live in Barbados so there is no way I could send it in to be checked. Is there any other alternative? Which part should I buy? Is replacing any of the parts on the speaker simple?
Swap the midrange drivers out with your main speaker drivers until you fidpnd which driver is defective. The drivers are a sealed unit so you can send back for repair or a new driver.
It's most likely the tweeter. I just replaced the one on my C3 and it was $420 CDN for the part. It would have been covered under warranty but I bought it used, so no luck.
You can stick your ear up to it or make a paper cone to listen to it isolated and see if it's working. Mine was defective and was still working but was distorting badly, what you describe sounds like it's not working at all.

General recommendation is to have the L/R tweeters at hear level from primary listening position and the center either above/below the display and tilted towards you. Also I notice in the Paradigm manual they recommend that the L/R be 3/4 "X" distance from each other, where X = distance from main listening position (i.e. if sitting 4 ft away, separate them by 4x.075). As long as the LCR are positioned correctly while sitting then you should be fine based on what you stated above.

Ok thanks. So after a long morning of screwing and unscrewing, I have found the problem. It appears to be the midrange, the one under the tweeter on the C3. What I did was to unhook the connections within the cabinet associated with each the bass the mid and the tweeter. On doing that, the muffled sound came from when I had only the midrange connected. The thing is, I don't see a way to take that part out of the entire unit as the tweeter and midrange are all in one. So if I need to buy a part, do I simply call paradigm? Or can someone here in Barbados fix that issue?

From the outside, it doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the midrange. No holes, no tears no flapping no anything. What could be wrong on the inside?
Just spoke to Paradigm tech support and the part costs $640 plus shipping. That's close to the cost of the speaker used but in great shape. I don't know, what the hell could have caused this issue?

Looking for some advice from other paradigm owners... I just came into a bonus at work and looking to grab myself a paradigm 5.0 setup (I'll probablly grab an HSU or Epik sub) My room is 19 x 14 and is a dedicated HT( 100% movies) room. Im runnin a Denon 3312 atm which i may or may not replace.

I have $3000 for a budget (for L/R/C and surrounds))and would like to know peoples suggestions, Monitor 9's , SE 3's , or start piecing a Studio set together?

I know the studios will break my budget but i could always add the surrounds later.

Any help would be appreciated.

I put together a Studio set and a HSU STF-2 for under $3k if you don't count my Denon 3312ci, which works well with my Paradigm Studios. My center channel is a CC-490, my L/R are Studio 20s and my surrounds are Studio 10s. The Studio 20's were new in box, but purchased off of eBay. The HSU sub and my stands for the Studio 20s were new and the other Studios were used. My room is larger than yours and I use it 95% for HT... and I'm very happy with the sound. Of course, I'm thinking about a couple of upgrades down the road. smile.gif
post #25300 of 28098
I considered the studio 20's for mains but was wondering if id be losing too much up front. Thats why i was considering the Studio 60's but im hearing mixed comments...some say you dont need towers for mostly movies with a dedicated sub and monitors work...others are saying go towers for movies especially for front ... So im alil confused. I like to listen loud and wanna make sure i go the right route, dont wanna have to upgrade in a year lol

While I haven't done an A to B comparison with the Studio 60's, I am very happy with the 20's as my L/R. If I were to upgrade, I would look to my center channel and subwoofer before the Studio 20's. I know there are others on this forum who can give you a much more informed opinion... just my two cents.

I hope somebody can help me here, i posted in receiver forums but nobody answered. Here goes smile.gif

Onkyo 818 or anthem mrx 300?

Is it worth it if i upgrade my receiver? My setup is Denon 1910, Paradigm Monitor 7 s7, Center 3, polk tsi300 for surrounds and a svs pb12nsd.
Which AVR do you guys think is much better and bang for the buck? I dont need airplay and pandora coz i have an apple tv. I do 70/30 Movies/Music.
Thanks

Anthem MRX 300 if what you're looking for is sound quality and budget is around $1k.
I'd take a pass on the anthem and get a denon 4311 for a few hundred dollars more. Amazing receiver.

Grabed a pair of Signature 6's today before the prices went up. Was told by two different dealers that Paradigm raised the prices as of today. I have the Signature 4's v1 and was looking for an upgrade. I might sell them if anyone is interested.

Byali,
Looks very nice smile.gif
One question. Do you find improvement with AudioQuest subwoofer interconnect over some cheap ICs? I have Studio Sub12 using Tributaries entry level IC. Thinking of upgrading but not sure how much I could expect.

They're raising the prices again? How much are they going up this time? Glad I'm done buying, could be good if I ever decide to sell though.

it sucks that prices are going up again since dealer markup is huge.

Hey Weird.....how are things going with your system? Do you still have the S6/C5 combo? I am loving my Signatures. They put a smile on my face everyday. Next for me is either some Studio 10/Sig S1 surrounds OR an amplifier.

That's great to hear your enjoying the upgrade. My system is still the same with the exception of adding a second Seaton SubM HP. The S1's are nice speakers, the only thing that's somewhat of a pain is you have to use the Paradigm stands. With the bottom of the speaker being curved they 're not stable on any other models. What kind of amp are you thinking of trying out?

I am thinking NAD M25 or an Anthem A5 (or a P5 if I can find one on CAM - I missed out recently on a mint condition P5 going for $3500.00) I picked up a Pioneer Elite N-50 network audio player last month and it has made a noticable improvement in the sound quality of my flacs so naturally the next upgrade should be an amp smile.gif I have been doing more 2 channel listening lately so the movie watching has really dropped off which is probably why I'll do an amp first. My RXV3900 does an excellent job with the S4's/C3 but I think there is opportunity for improvement. Having to buy stands for the S1s makes the Studio 10 more appealing since I can just plunk them down on my existing stands.
Your system must rock with those dual Seatons.

Can't go wrong with the Studios. If movie watch is the main role of your HT then I would look to spend more to get more. I am upgrading from the Atom line to Studio line and so far is has been a spectacular investment. The center channel alone has proven to be of the greatest improvement to my viewing satisfaction. If you want to stay within your budget you can probably get the SE series in full (a dealer near my location had the L/C/R/Surr/Sub for ~2700 nib), good chance you can get everything for under $3k. As always recommended, try to demo the speakers.

How do you have your surrounds setup? Are the beside or behind the main listening position? Do they have walls to reflect off of? Liking your setup!

I was told it's based on the Canadian trade exchange rate with the value of the US dollar. Not sure what this all means, but it's much cheeper to buy them in Canada with Canadian money. I can only report the modest increase of the Signature Series which is approx $200.00 each in US Dollars. Since there is still a mark up on these things, it just means you won't be able to neogiate as large of a deal as you could have last month.

Interesting investment in the cables. Can you break down the differences in the interconnects? For example what do u have the Colorado XLR balanced connected to? and why do u use some King Kobra and some Colorado? Reason is I am in the market to buy audioquest connects and speaker cables

Since will be getting the S6's next week. Any suggestions where I should place the S4's? I have a 5.1 system atm, but have an Integra 80.3 which is a 9.2 system. I would be willing to buy a 2 channel amp, but not sure if I should use from as front height, front wide, or back rear. I don't want to waste their excellent soundstage, so I want to put them where they will get the most work at this point..

After my debacles with the Studio CC590 and 690 I am please to report the Signature C5 is perfect in it's performance and has none of the issues I reported a few pages back. It performs so much better than the 690 that the doubling of expenditure was quickly forgotton! There is no "boxiness" in the mid-bass to report at all. And the C5 is sexy as for a loudspeaker. Now just waiting for the Emotiva XPA-3 to arrive here to Australia to power the C5 and Studio 100's. Good times ahead!
