I bought a pair of Monitor 9 v.7's along with a Center 3 & love 'em. They play loud & clean & have a good soundstage. I'll pick up at least a pair of Surround 3's come boxing day. I'm running them with an old 10" JBL sub & a Paradigm DSP-3600 sub crossed over at 80hz.
Sound & Vision reviewed this setup (along with a DSP-3200 sub) & Daniel Kumin highly recommended them.

Down the line I'd love to get a pre-amp + amp setup like that
Haha. That is my roommates computer case. He made that thing 6 or 7 years ago with just scrap parts from around his house. I just use it as a media center right now with XBMC. I may try out a Rasberry Pi down the road with XBMC, but I'm not sure how well I'd be able to stream HD movies to it or possibly just build my own dedicated media center.

I have recently purchased Studio 100's for my HT. I have a problem in that when I started looking into adding the center speaker, I have 5" between the cabinet containing the electronics and the bottom of the front projection screen and 8" from cabinet to top of the border of the screen. The Studio centers are too tall to fit in the space. Also in the cabinet there is a location to place a speaker and it is 17.5" tall, too short for the CC-490. Any recommendation for a center speaker that will fit in either of these spaces and have a decent match to the Studio 100's?

Thanks

Can you post a picture? I would try to find a work-around that alllows you room for a larger center channel. I have the CC-490 with Studio 20's. I would be looking at a 590 or 690 if I had the Studio 100's.

Just got my Sig 2's hooked up. Here it is next to the smaller Studio 10.

They are a big step up from the Studio10's. Sounds seem to roll off with a much faster snap to them. I can hear stuff i have never heard before.

Taken with a cell phone (not great quality).

The top of the screen is at the ceiling. First of the wall including the screen, cabinet, and Studio 100s. 2nd a closeup of the cabinet and bottom of the screen. Total space above cabinet & top of the trim is 8".

So you're looking for a center that is less than 8" tall to complement the huge 100's? Impossible I'd say. Remember the center channel is probably the most important speaker. I'd say go with a phantom center or get a new cabinet from Standout Designs that will allow you go put a CC-590/690 in the cabinet.

Agreed... or get a speaker stand... http://media.datatail.com/docs/specs/59824_en.pdf

I have been strongly considering starting to slowly upgrade my Studio setup to Signatures but was wondering if you can ever get any 'decent deals' with the pricing on these. I am currently running Paradigm Studio 60 V.3s but since I have blown a tweeter twice I am pretty much done fixing it and would like to upgrade. I have had them for a good 8 years or so it feels like (not sure) but the best I can do is hunt the entire internet for used pairs or step down to the bookshelf sized offerings which I do not want to do.

I am leaning toward the S6's but was wondering if any retailers actually let these go considerably below retail price or if it's just a few hundred bucks saving here vs there.

I am in West Michigan (Holland) and the only place I can find that has Signature speakers is Bekkins (I think it's called) in Grand Haven... So... I have 1 option, cool. How do you guys go about getting the best prices on these or do you all live in huge metro areas or close to places where you actually have choices?

In a perfect world I could get S8s but I don't have $7K for a pair of speakers unfortunately... S6's is also pushing it hard unless I can get a 'deal' or find that perfect used pair.
I do think S2's would be nice if I wanted a high-wall mounted option angled down because my screen takes up the entire side of the room wall to wall which means my Studio 60's have always been slightly blocking my picture... screen goes wall to wall ceiling to just about 12-16 inches from the carpet kind of insane. lol

The S6 is 91db@1w@1m with 200w max input.
The Studio 60 is 92db@1w@1m with 170w max input.

This is nearly identical top SPL. If you are blowing tweeters on the 60, I would think you will blow them on the 6.

It seems like you need louder speakers. Ones more efficient or capable of absorbing more wattage.

im freaking out, called my dealer afterhours ,leaving emails to tell him he forgot my adp590 when i went to up pick the studio 100,cc690,,sub15, i made two trips, didnt sign any papers, and only found out about it 5 hours later when i had time to look my boxes, theres no way they can f me over can they? im stressing out.

Hey Pooshda, Sometimes Tweets blow due to "Clipping" which happens when amp is over driven. (Ask me how I know?) Some of the larger towers have an impedance swing relative to frequency. It takes a pretty strong amp to keep up with this when driven at high levels.

I bought a 200 W / Chnl, all channels driven at full power, separate amp for my front 3 and all is well in my system.

Good luck with the new ones!

Mod the cabinet, or get a new one where you can set the 590 / 690 below the top shelf. Too nice a system to mess up the center.

Most dealers won't. Don't worry too much.

If you think they're good now, give them a few weeks of use and your jaw will hit the floor.

Thanks for the responses about the tweeters blowing, I thought maybe it was a clipping issue but I had a high quality amp running them (Parasound @ 200WPC I think) I read somewhere a long time ago that there was something up with the earlier generation tweeter or crossover design associated with it (this could be COMPLETELY FALSE! just hearsay...) and that a lot of people actually had issues with the tweeters going out (which is probably why I read so many things about a VIFA replacement option years ago) I am debating on just replacing the tweeter again (I since sold the Parasound amps, but I also blew one when powering it off my Denon AVR as well before owning the amps) so that's two different power sources they ran off of... LOVE THE SPEAKERS though.

Just wondering if I am going to run into that issue again or not, I am calling a local dealer today to find out what they'd sell me a replacement tweeter for because I am starting to lean against upgrading for a few more months at least but someone was also kind enough to give me contact info for a dealer in IL last night that I can also look into. I think maybe for now I'll get a new tweeter and eventually I do want to upgrade though but don't feel I'm ever going to leave Paradigm... love em.

I also considered moving the S60's to be surround back and upgrading my front stage to S100's w/ a CC-690 but I feel like I need to 'upgrade to a new class' if I am going to shell out thousands of dollars anyway -- Perfectly happy with my Studios though, lol... damn upgrade bug.

Can you get your hands on at least a dbMeter? Get a reading of your volume at 1m at your highest listening levels (the loudest volume you'd really listen at) and let's find out if we are in the ball-park of failure due to volume. If you are peaking (for example) at 102db, then this is a non-issue (as you are running about 10w) and we need to look at other sources for the cause of the blown tweeters.

I used to have a Studio 100 V5, CC690, and Studio 10 (for the rears) setup. After moving through 5 or 6 pairs after those speakers, I ended up with an S6 V3, C3, and ADP 1 setup. Incredible. Sounds like a pair of $20,000 speakers. The S6 are the best bargains in high-end audio, and most people don't give them a second look because they have a "Paradigm" logo stamped. Well, it's actually a big "P".

This is coming from a guy who had 800 Diamonds.

Anyone wanting to hear a review from me once they are broken in? I only have about 20 hours on the front L and R so far, so they are still breaking in. This may be the first pair I own more than 6 months.

When you're bored would you mind swapping the S2 tweeters into the Studios and reporting back? Thinking of a future upgrade! biggrin.gif

Maybe. Seems my 490cc Studio center speaker pairs up very well with the Sig 2's I would have a hard time fitting a big C3 center on my tv stand as it is.

Yea. Matching crossovers to speakers is so amateur-hour smile.gif

I have not read all 889 post in this thread so I don't know if anything was brought up about the "Paradigm Export" speakers. I have a set, never really liked them that much and like them even less now. Wondering if anybody else has the same opinion and what would be the next upgrade to that speaker. Thanks.

no one has Cinema series 100/200/400 speakers here?

looking for some feedback on them.

I just picked up 100 for rear, 200 for L&R and 400 for centre for the new home (Feb 13)

sub will be reusing a compact Mirage MM8....small room 12x15 with a 60" Plasma (Samsung PN60E6500)

curious how much power you recommend? I have a NAD T748...modest power, but it has pre-out and can use my Parasound 5 channel (85Wx5). most curious on these speakers....no music...just HT use

I suggest you approach it differently. Go to "the little guys .com" , they are a major NAD dealer, you can email them with your question or call them. They seem to be really good people and more importantly really know their business.

I bought my NAD 757 from them and they shipped it to me from IL to Mi and I was on the phone with them twice a day for weeks until I got my system set up perfectly. In my considered opinion those guys are speaker gurus.

Bad Studio 100 v.2 Crossover Story:

I would like to share my weirdest and most difficult audio problem in the 15 years that i have been part of the hobby.

Problem: random, totally unpredictable timing R tweeter buzz, then dropouts, then silence, fixed by increasing volume to max
briefly. Could go hours without it at times, other times it would come on within minutes after start.

Diagnostic path:

1. Switched amp channels, then interconnects, then swapped L/R on processor, all FAIL.

2. Swapped tweeters, FAIL, problem did not transfer to L.

3. Opened cabinet, pulled all wires off the crossovers, cleaned up contact, contact paste, FAIL.

4. Remembered my radio club days high school. Volume up must be recharging a capacitor then it get depleted at lower
volumes. Contacted Paradigm, they sent me the Mid/tweeter v.2 crossover.

The crossover is behind the top woofer, removed two layers of insulation to ge to it. To do it
properly one must lay the cabinet on its back, use a very long philips screwdriver, thankfully
the screws were magnetized already.

One month no problems knock on wood. I am thankful for the tech support and parts dept at
Paradigm, they super fast on the phones and emails. $100 crossover was overnighted from Canada
at no additional charge. Recently i had to deal with the Denon ESL GED support, what a far cry from the
educated and motivated individuals staffing Paradigm.

PS: I just bought a pair of Signature S8 v.2 (yep, V.2 guy here) off Audiogon i am dying with anticipation:))))
