If you've only got 20-inches of horizontal space for the centre, you'd be stuck with the CC-490. Have you considered going to the C1 instead? It should be around the same price as a CC-590. I've got a similar balance (WAF) system on the go, and I've been very happy with my S1+C1 (3.1) setup. In my case, my centre channel cabinet space is a bit larger, so I could have fit either a 590 or a C1, but not a C3. When I spoke with Paradigm, they said that the C1 would have better audio quality than the 590 (which I suppose it should, being slightly more expensive), despite being a bit smaller. The C1 also looks much nicer in my opinion, especially if you're going for a modern minimalistic kind of look.

+1 My 20s sound great to me! Don't think of it as "settling". Think of it as getting the same sound for less money!

Now, I'm looking for a pair of Studio 40 v4, in black ash. Will move my 20s to surround duty if I find them!

Thanks, I saw an auction in ebay the studio 20 v4 was auctioned $800+ hehe goodluck on your hunt

The 20" hole isn't in the middle of the cabinet. Will your tv be in the middle or over the CC? It'd be too distracting for me having the dialogue coming from the side of the tv.

If he's putting in the center compartment, it's only slightly off center... not enough to matter, I'd think.

That said, Gerry, is your plan to open that cabinet door every time you want to watch TV? I'd look at other cabinets, personally, or put the center below the TV or above it on a shelf. If you can wall-mount the TV, just move it up however many inches you need to clear the center channel, and the sky's the limit on choices. Another option could be to replace the center door with an acoustic fabric panel so the speaker fires right through it. I'd hate to have to open a cabinet door every time I want to watch, though... and unless that door opens with full 180 degree hinges, if it's only around 90 degrees open it's going to cause sound to reflect to the side.

If you find such a site, they are not an authorized dealer.

Sorry for any confusion. I did not buy any of my speakers from Paradigm
Directly. I was able to order from several DEALERS when the new versions
Were released. These dealers offered full Paradigm warranty on the
Speakers I bought.

I had a bad mid-woofer on one such speaker, when I called the dealer that
I purchased them, they sent me out a new mid-woofer at no charge.
I had to install it myself though. This dealer is in Michigan and I'm in
AZ.

Of course Your experience may be different than mine.

Does anybody know if Paradigm can evaluate and then repair back to original factory specs? I don't see any physical damage to drivers or speakers at all.
Very odd..I also noticed this with my studio 60s vs 3
But..after checking everything I realized my left speaker was setback 2" further than the right speaker..I guess these speakers are very finicky about placement..now there both exactly toe'd in and set in place exactly the same and sounds more even now...but at first it did sound like one was lacking in sound compared to the other..did you find anything out about yours?.. Did you have a problem with a driver? ..just wondering..I bought mine used a few months ago and there vs 3.

Hi ambesolman, Kalani, & eljaycanuck,

I took some of your feedback and updated the layout. This new design provides a wider door space to allow for the cc-590 (still can't make the mental leap to the HUGE 690), while centering the TV and center channel. I'll make sure to have the doors open all the way out - thanks for that tip. It would be great if I could find a remote solution to open them smile.gif

Paradigm + XBR + Visualizm.jpg 90k .jpg file

Now the only issue is seeing whether or not the cabinet manufacturer would do a custom job like this!

Could check out this site as well, seem like really nice pieces. I just found out about them, but seems everyone else already knew.

Nice. smile.gif

Be sure the doors don't block the IR for any components in there (particularly when open) and you should be good.

They make remote-activated drapes and remote lifts for pedestals, so I'm sure a remote door opener is out there somewhere...

I don't know about prices elsewhere in the world, but $550 (or less) for a gently-used pair would be a fair price, IMO.

I got mine for $450, which seems to be a little below the current market value for these.

Would the 490 center work with the 60's
I tried the CC490 with my 60's v.5 for 2 weeks then I went and traded it in for a CC590. The 590 is alot better. I think the 490 is better suited with the 20's

I am using a 490cc with my Sig2 v3's and it seems to work fine. This is for a smaller bedroom.

Kinda bummed out. Just realized my mid-range on by studio 100 v 5 is defective. I've had my system hooked up for about a month now. I just received a xpa-5 yesterday and the system has been sounding awesome watching bluerays. I now know what the term "taking the blanket off" now means. So after work today I popped in Adele live at the Abby. To check out some vocals.. Sounded awesome in dts master. So I put it in pure dierect and went to -5 DBS on my marantz 7007. And got a obvious distortion out of my midrange. Going to call paradigm on Monday. Kinda sucks because my midrange on my cc690 was already defective. Paradigm was awesome last time and sent a new one next day no problem. Keeping fingers crossed hope it goes as smooth before.

I've been running a Anthem MRX700 for about a 1.5 years now , If I add a power amp to my system will it improve the sound , as sometimes I find it hard to understand some dialogue through my center speaker , how do I know if I have enough power to drive all my speakers , when I watch movies my volume is about -16 to -12

My speakers are as follows

Fronts studio 60

Center studio C690

Side studio ADP590

Rears studio 20

Sub 3400 x 2

Thanks in advance

That Anthem 700 is a fine piece of equipment along with your speaker choices.

Sometimes the way the movie is mixed is what causes hard to understand dialogue.

According to this review, the MRX700 puts out 71W/ch. into seven channels. That's enough power to drive all your speakers, although you might start to notice some distortion at very loud volumes. (This is why I purchased a UPA-5 to complement my Marantz SR6003 when I was running 7.1 (Studio 60v4, CC-690v5, ADP-590v5 and Studio 20v4) in my ~3,375 cu.ft. HT space.)

The dialogue issue - as stated by Tamas - likely has more to do with the audio mix than the speaker itself. I occasionally also find some dialogue to be hard to hear, but given that 95% of the time it's crystal-clear and sounds great, I know it's not an issue with the speaker or with how my system is calibrated.

You might notice a benefit by adding an external amp especially at higher volume levels but I dont think you will gain anything concerning the CC.
You completed ARC I assume? Speakers properly setup and aimed? Any room treatment added? That alone can make a substantial difference especially concerning dialog from your CC.

been debating for a while now about my studio 60s put them up sale got some offers decided not to sell them. Is there anyone who would recomment signature 2s and a c3 over studio 60s and a 590?? is it that much of a difference. I basically only watch movies but will be purchasing a sonos system soon, Thanks

Also run a Sub12 (which I love) with an mrx 700

All i can say is that my Sig2 v3's are the best sounding speakers out of all the others i have owned. I can't say how much better that are compared to the Studio60's since i have never heard the 60's.

My bedroom setup is in my sig below and the Sig2's rock my smaller room The C3 center is a big cetner and is pricey.

I had a similar setup in a meduim sized room, except for 100s. When I added an amp (200 wpc x 3) for the front 3, it made a big difference. Even at lower levels. My amp was 145 Wpc 2 channels driven.

What brand of amp where you running
My dealer told me that Paradigm is in the process of pulling all of their manufacturing back to Canada .......when I was demoing the Center 3 and Monitor 11 (V7's). The owner of the same shop told me that Paradigm had some problems in China..I think he meant quality issues. I was mentioning to the salesmen that I did not like how the tweeter mirrors on all three speakers were way off center........he said they were just pads and did not effect the sound quality..........and that only the cabinets for Monitor V7's were made in China.....the other components were .made in Canada. I mentioned to the salesmen that I thought these "pads" should be centered if they were going to be there at all..........he thought that was silly...........

I'm not sure if I just happened to be very unlucky or it's a quality issue. But my midrange on my cc 690 and also on one of my studio 100 were defective. My speakers are only a couple months old. Paradigm has been great so far. They shipped me a replacement for the cc in a day. I emailed paradigm last night and had a reply this morning saying they will be shipping a new midrange for my 100 today. I'm a little disappointed that they were defective in the first place but there customer service has been great.
This is a concern......I don't want to buy a speaker of this level and quality(?) and have to worry about this happening.......I wonder if the materials are cheaper or what? I had to get a woofer in my Studio 20 (V1.) replaced and the dust cover fell off right away and the woofer died again after 100 hours or so......not pushed at all.
