Paradigm Owners Thread - Page 878

I'm in the midst of ordering a C1 from Trutone, so far so good, I ended up getting about 15% off MSRP, which isn't too bad for my first time in there. I had been dealing with Kromer downtown, but they're not in business anymore.

They've got a pretty decent storeroom and selection. Only issue is that they can be a bit busy, so you have to rope in a rep or you'll end up standing around all day. They've got quite a bit of Paradigm and Anthem stuff set up, including a couple of listening rooms.

Just don't go in with money burning a hole in your pocket, there's WAY too much nice stuff in there.

Also, ill be powering them with a yamaha v673. Any issues with that?
Thanks.

These are the true, good-old 8 inch drivers right? before Mon 9's were renamed to Mon 11's and newer Mon 7's are now called Mon 9s? Yes, you need to try and find a matching center as you posted. Your Yammy should do fine on these. Freq resp is not that low but they are a beautiful speaker until you really crank it for music. If you have a sub, this is a non-issue. For HT, it works great. For music, it's warm until you really crank it, then's it gets more harsh but still acceptable until you listen at levels that would disturb your neighbor. See if the seller will go lower. Never hurts to ask. Good luck!

Hey everybody. I'm looking at a pair of used Millenia ADP for $580. Not local, so no chance to hear them. Is there anyone who can comment on these, as compared to the Studio ADP's? My fronts are Studio 20 v4s and my center is a CC490 v5. Any comment on whether the Millenia ADP's would go well with these, or if I'd be better off waiting for a pair of Studio ADP's to come my way.

Also, is this a good price?

Yes, they have the 8" drivers. $400 is the lowest he will go. I found some centers on ebay for $150+ with shipping.

So any news from CES about the speakers that were rumored a number of months ago to be coming that would be above the Signatures?

It's difficult to tell just from an image but the grill looks to be in very good condition. Even grills that are not damage will often have fading / blotches on the cover. The unit on the right looks uniform. The left drivers also look to be in good condition?

From memory. I think this series is not rated to go that low around 40-45Hz maybe? As I mentioned, if you have a sub, this is a non issue. The unit is fairly big, quite heavy and looks nice. They sound crisp until you really crank the volume, then music can sound harsh. But for HT, this is a non-issue as you rarely have dialogue coming out of L-R.

Can't help much with the price. You don't see many 8 inch Mon 9's these days up for sale. I guess the question is, will these puppies need any work? I know older speakers tend to need their foam surrounds replaced but I am pretty sure no foam was used on these drivers. Anyone care to jump in on sound quality over time for these Mon 9's?

Paradigm's drivers have butyl-rubber surrounds - they are very durable. If the speakers sound good today, they'll sound good for another decade or two at the very least.

(The surrounds on my 7se's - my first speakers, owned them for over 20 years - were in perfect condition when I sold them. The surrounds on the 5se MkII's I currently have in my home office - which must be close to 20 years old by now - are also in perfect condition.)

That is great to know! So how come some Paradigm owners were complaining that the speakers don't sound as good as they used to? Psychological?

Dunno, but my 7se's were as sweet the day I sold them (when I upgraded to Monitor 7v4s for my HT) as they were when I bought them. I actually regretted selling them...which is partly why I ended up buying 5se MkIIs (essentially re-badged 7se's) for the home office. I really love their big, warm sound. smile.gif

Also, and FWIW, I bought my M7v4s off a buddy who had them for 2-3 years, and I had them for a couple of years, and they always sounded good. And I've had my S60v4s - which I also purchased gently-used - for almost three years now and they sound as good as the day I bought them.

How long before paradigm unveiled a new Studio speakers. I want to buy a pair of studios 60's and the CC-490 v5 but I want to make sure they are not coming with any new model before the year end.
Should I worry?

Nice, that may be some re-assurance to @Maniac2k for buying the Mon 9 v3. I would also say these towers are warm until you really crank the volume. Then, they become more harsh but only if you are standing right beside them. Harshness on these only become an issue if you listen to pretty loud music and stand right in front of the tweeter smile.gif

Yeah thanks guys. Im still not sure what im going to do. The monitor 9's are $400 and a used center looks like it will be at least $150. So $550 total minimum, probably more. I just missed out on a deal for monitor 11's with center and surrounds for $975obo. This deal made me think the monitor 7's was a little high. So im gonna keep looking. Im thinking if i dont find a nice front / center package, i just might keep saving up for something else. For some reason i keep getting drawn back to monitor audios rx6's.

If the Mon 9's were in good condition, add the $150 for the center. Then go new for Mini's in the rear? Wouldn't that be lower cost than $975 for the used combo? Guess it would be more work to piece it together though.

What about looking for Mon 3's in the older versions. Same 8 inch driver, put the money you save into an even better sub. There is an idea eh?

Hi guys, may I know what will I be missing if I get a Studio 10 as fronts instead of Studio 20? I do have a sub to compliment the lows, so I'm wondering if there's any.

You could call Simcoe Audio Video in Barrie and ask to speak to Shawn, he's the owner and a great guy to deal with.

I just bought some Monitor 9's and Mini Monitors for my living room upstairs and I have a SUB-1 coming for the theater room downstairs.

It never hurts to call anyway, and I'm sure he'll give you a price over the phone.

Well since CES is over, we know at least the version 6 has not been announced. I too am wondering when or if they will have a version 6. When they released the 30th anniversary speakers, I wondered if that was the preview of perhaps the version 6 considering those speakers have the beryllium-dome tweeter and the floorstanders retail for 6k per pair and they bookshelf 2.5k per pair. They kind of fall in between the current studio and signature lines.

Well "missing" is kind of subjective to each person's ears. I can tell you a couple of technical differences that might affect the missing perception.

- studio 20 has 7 inch mid/bass driver vs studio 10 has 5 1/2 mid/bass driver
- studio 20 is rated 110 watt max input power (15-180 range) vs studio 10 is rated 90 watts max input power (15-150 range)

A couple of other factors that can affect a person's ears is size of room trying to fill and how loud you like to listen. If you have a larger room or you like it loud then you will probably feel something is missing between the 20s and 10s even if you are using a sub because of the 1 1/2 size difference of the combined mid/bass driver. I have the 20s on side surround duty and I enjoy them. I have considered getting the studio 10s as height speakers if I upgrade from 9.1 to 11.1 down the road.

Here is a review of the studio 10s

Well, I said goodbye to my Studio 10 mains yesterday -- sold to a new owner for use as mains in his bedroom setup. I've ordered LSA Monitor 1's to replace them. I'm hoping the LSAs are "warmer" and more "musical" than the Paradigms were. If anyone's interested in a comparison I can post up my thoughts once I get them.

I loved my Studio 10 v5's, they are now used for rears. I replaced them with the Signature 2's. Now i gotta figure a way to fish my thick speaker cables thru the J29 stands.

Wow. They look awesome. I'm glad they arrived in good condition. Did you manage to find the right bolts?

Thanks!

I called my local Paradigm dealer and they will send me the spikes and bolts. Should have them in a week or so. I will also go with diff wires so can fish them thru the J29 stands. I could take the ends off the thicker blue cables, but are not long enough to fish thru the stands.

Hi. Looking to purchase either ADP590 or ADP390 for side surrounds. I'm wondering which would work best with my set up. I have studio 40 v2 for L and R. Studio CC v2. DPR-12 sub and AMS-300 for back surrounds. Power by a Yamaha Aventage 2000. Room is a dedicated HT room with a 92" screen for movies and some TV watching. Size of room is 24 x 12. Thanks.
Hey guys. I'm researching speakers for my next house and I keep coming back to Paradigm speakers. I've not actually heard them, but all of the comments and reviews sound like these are the speakers for me.

I'm working with a carpenter to design my media center. it will be 13' long and about 2' tall. I'm trying to decide if I should build the shelf for the center channel around the studio cc590 or the cc690. The room is around 24' x 22' with knee walls and I'll be seated about 8' to 10' away from my TV. Would the 690 be overkill? I don't want to regret not making room for the 690, but I don't know that I'd actually ever need a center that size. thanks in advance.
^^^ Dont even think twice....CC690 all the way. You wont regret it.

I'm a believer in you can't have too much center channel lol.

I bought a CC-590, A/B'd it against my buddy's CC-690...and went out and bought a CC-690. Fantastic CC speaker, with a bigger / fuller / better-balanced sound than the CC-590. Almost three years later, I'm still loving it. It's one of the best HT purchases I've made. cool.gif

You'll probably be happy with paradigms, but I suggest you go demo them first. I almost bought a klipsch setup until I went to listen to them. That day I discovered paradigms((which I had never paid attention too). I've been extremely happy with them. Just my .02.
