Kvail,

Ever considered the Anthem Statement P5, 5-channel amp? Same family line as Paradigm and voiced to work together... good quality amps too. I'm sure you'll need a bit more power with the Sigs (just like the Studios)... 325 watts/channel... and the retail price is $5,000, though I'm sure you can finagle a discount at a dealer.

I've never heard of Parasound Halo amps as sounding "bright."

Another idea, since this is for home theater purposes, is Earthquake and Outlaw Audio (they have a 300 watt/channel multi-channel amp in the works).

Hi all,
Be gentle, this is my first post, but by all means, chastise me for any faux pas. I bought Sig 6's a year ago, but hadn't until recently got serious about set-up, amp match, etc. I'm finding that my current front end and speaker combo is more fatiguing than I had hoped. I was thinking that I would try to find a USED pair of Parasound JC1's to upgrade to; however, a local dealer (who previously sold Parasound gear) cautioned me about this, saying in effect, that Parasound amps are generally considered "bright" and wouldn't be a salutary match with the Be- tweeted Sig's. So my questions are these:

(1) Has anyone paired Sig 6's (or other Sig's) with JC1's? Impressions?
(2) Does anyone have alternative amp suggestions for mating with the Sig 6's to tame the brightness and develop the bottom end a bit more. (I "upgraded" from Mirage M3 si's, and am missing the 10" woofers).

Note: This is an integral part of my 5.1 system for movies, so I don't think I want to go the tube route. Two used JC1's can be had for around $4K, so that's my approx. budget.

My other key system components: Oppo 95, Arcam fmj processor (direct analog passthrough for 2 channel), Musical Design amps for all speakers

Thanks to all.

You do not need 400W to make the S6 play as loud as it will play, or the bass as deep as it should. My S6 puts out more bass when I turn Anthem's ARC off vs. on so a more muscular amp would not be of much use as my room is the problem.

From Paradigm's website:
Suitable Amplifier Power Range: 15 - 400 watts
Maximum Input Power: 200 watts

The S6 cannot handle more than 200W of actual power. Anything more than that and you are talking about headroom. I think Paradigm blew a tweeter with a pair of Statement M1's at an audio show, but I can't find where I read that.
I would spend the money on the new Marantz 8801 pre/pro instead of the jci's because xt32 will tame that tweeter sizzle, also room treatment, what sub are you using ?
I just use a old Acurus A200 for my Sig2 v3's and they sound great together.
After 6 weeks I finally received my repaired MilleniaOneCT system from Paradigm. Set it all up and plug it in and it doesn't even turn on. On top of that there was a dent in the tweeter that never existed before and some additional scratching of the sats. To my surprise it was Crutchfield who stepped up to fully replace the units and 3 days later I finally have music back! Thank you Crutchfield for your excellent customer service.

Just to add to the Signature eyecandy: My Signature v.1 setup... I tried to sell the set to move to a more music oriented setup, but could not find a buyer willing to pay the shipping. But, the more I listen to it, I realize that I would've probably regretted selling them. For now I am running 3.1, as I could not find S2 v.1 in Maple. I wouldn't mind having black Studio 20 v.4 but those are hard to come by as well, at least in my price range.

What amps are those in the picture?

looks like 3 Emotiva UPA-1 to me
I had a short listen to the Tribute's today at my local dealer. I went in to get a new laser installed on my Denon 2930ci...........and asked for a guick listen on the new Tribute's. Man they sound nice and smooth, I may go back and take some of my own music next week. They are definitely one of the nicest looking and finished speakers..........the Cherry S6's next to them did not look anywhere near as nice.

The thing that I don't care for is the price.......not the amount, but the difference between the Canadian MSRP 6599.99 and the US MRSP $6000.......now these are made in Canada......why would I be asked to pay more in my own Country?

Yeah. They are UPA-1's indeed. Not exactly high end, but the specs and price lured me in and IMHO they sound awesome to me... They do 200W into 8 ohms and 350 into 4 ohms, and 80,000uF secondary capacitance per channel. Despite Paradigm's "compatible with 8 ohms" rating, the C3 is 5 ohms nominal and S4 are 6 ohms nominal. So that's plenty of juice for me...biggrin.gif

Those Tribute are pure porn.

But $6k is a bit much. Paradigm has gone berserk with their pricing. The msrp on Studios are up almost 30% since 2010 with no changes in design. And $10k for S8's in premium finish? Seriously? If I had that kind of cash to blow on a pair of speakers, Paradigms wouldn't be on my short list. Don't get me wrong, Studio's and Signatures sound awesome(I'm a happy owner), but not $10k awesome. But I guess with money it's all relative. Thank god for the used market as I would not be able to afford Paradigms at current prices.

Nice! Those look almost identical to my Sigs. Let me know if you ever want to sell them. They would be perfect for surrounds in my setup.

Lol. You just got those S2... Are you looking at the pair of S8 on Ebay?

You might have to move that TV stand to the left a bit to accommodate the deep cabinet and rear port of the S8 if you get them.

Studio 40's. I'd offer to sell you mine, but mine are Rose and I think you are only hunting matching or black.

Why would they round so far to 8 Ohms instead of giving a 4 Ohm rating?

Can always move the S2s to a nice 2-channel setup after upgrading to the S8. smile.gif

Well, I just bought them. Haven't even had them a week yet, so I don't think I'll be looking to get rid of them anytime soon.

This got me thinking, for the Studio 100 and 690 v5, Paradigm also says "compatible with 8ohms". Where can you actually find out what they actually do or their Nominal Ohms.

Thanks.

Are the:
Paradigm Book Shelf speakers Mini Monitors V.4
and
Paradigm Center Channel Speaker CC-370 V.4

Okay for Home Theater? Are they crisp, clear, lots of detail, can handle good level of volume? 22x15 room.

Price: $245 on CL. Thanks.

Those speakers pair up nicely and are very good for HT. That price for the set is ridiculously low, especially if the speakers are in really good shape. IMO, you should snag 'em.

-- Edit --
I see that $245 is just for the MMs, with the CC selling for $160. Total: $405. The owner says they're in excellent condition and "warranted to work". IMO, the price is still reasonable.

I got the impedance ratings for my S4 and C3 here: http://www.hometheater.com/content/paradigm-signature-surround-speaker-system-measurements
The C3 actually dips to 3 ohms.

I think Paradigm says compatible with 8 ohms to not scare away those who are planning on using receivers not rated for 4ohms from buying their speakers. My opinion is that off you are running Studios or Sigs, you probably are running an external amp, so it shouldn't be a concern.

Since we have been posting "Paradigm Porn" I thought I would ad in a couple of pics.
I consider my self a big Paradigm fan..I have 15 speakers! All 3 lines are represented
in my home. Monitor,Studio and Signature.smile.gif

Above is my living room with Signature V2 in birdseye maple.S6 fronts,C1 center
and S1 rears. Subs are Ultra cube 10 and a Rythmik F12. I feel it is a waste to have
the S1's as surrounds, but I cant bring my self to replace them.
Anthem MRX300 AVR.Outlaw Audio mono-blocks(2),Assassin HTPC and the usual
blu-ray and Directv HD receiver.

This is a pic of my 2.1 set up in a spare bedroom. Studio 40 v4 and and DSP3200 sub.
I use an Outlaw Audio RR2150 stereo amp with bass mgmt and have the PBK kit for the sub.
Music is suppled by the HK DMC 1000 hard drive music server and a Sony SACD changer.

Not pictured is the bedroom set consisting of 2 Mini-Monitors v5, CC190v6 and a PDR10
sub. Powered by Marantz sr5003 with Apple TV and Directv as sources.
The Marantz Zone 2 powers a pair of Paradigm Stylus 470 speakers for the
patio/back yard.

Enjoy!
