Just unscrew the mid and readjust the insulation. This is all the dealer is going to do. It is not a big deal. If you don't feel comfortable, then take it to the dealer. No one will know that it has been dissambled and reassembled, so don't worry about that.

This is pretty much what Paradigm told me to do via customer support.

"The visible insulation will have no affect on the sound of the speaker.

If you prefer not to see it you can remove the woofer and place the insulation farther up the cabinet.

Cheers!"

I might just take it to a dealer.

Glad you got a reply from them.

Has anyone upgraded from bookshelves to floor standers? I currently have Studio 20's(and CC-590) in my basement great room/HT(22x60). I am considering moving to Studio 60's (or gasp! Monitor RX6's). What I'm looking for is more impact (non-lfe) in movies and a little more midbass/low midrange in music. I don't find the 20's overly lacking in this department. It seems as though they have to give 110% to sound the way I want. Will moving up to larger cabinets and more woofers help? Thanks for the input!

I moved from Cinema 90s to Millenium 200s and the difference was quite noticeable.

Nice room.. not sure what you are using for surround speakers but the 20s on the stand could do that and the 60s up front , but for a bit more i would go to 100s biggrin.gif be great for music and movies
in your room..

cheers

Failing that, moving to an AVR with MultEQ XT (which offers more and better filters for EQ-ing your system) and pre-outs (for expandability) is not a bad next step.

Especially since it sounds like you really want that 709... wink.gif

Postscript.

Just purchased a Marantz SR 6007, and problem solved. XT and dynamic volume are working wonders.
Truth be told probably didnt need the 590, just the new receiver. It is not going anywhere though.

And the preouts may come in handy at some point. Didnt get the onkyo because of the 12V trigger only for zone 2 quirk.

Upgrades complete for the time being...

That's exactly why I went from Studio 20s to 40s for my mains. The 40s aren't floorstanders either, but they're taller than the 20s and have a second bass driver. They definitely have more output without sounding strained.

Are there any Paradigm dealers in this thread? Or online retailers on the forum? I am seriously thinking about buying the Paradigm S2's. Any advice would be appreciated.

Paradigm doesn't permit any of their products to be sold online to be an authorized dealer so that answers half your question.

I just sold my Studio 20's and I was planning on getting Studio 100's. However, I've got that itch to just go Signature. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it? I paid a ton for that CC690 and I love it - will the C5 best it?
I prefer the S2 + a good sub to the Studio 100 (prices are similar). This was true IME through v4 (studio); but I've not compared the current generation.

It's gonna be hard when I put my beloved S2's up in the classifieds.

I would go right to Sigs.

I did the Studio line. 100s, 690 (Upgraded from a 590), and ADP 590s. Went to S8s V3, C5 V3 and kept my ADP 590s. Well worth the upgrade. I feel the C5 is better than a 690 and is a match for the S8s.

My opinion is, get the Sigs if you can afford it. They are a huge improvement.

When I sold my 690, it held its value pretty well.

How would you compare the Studio 100 to the S8? How bout the 690 to the C5?

Hello gentleman....

Wanted to jump in as a fellow Paradigm fan. I am a proud owner of 4 Studio 20's for front and rear, CC490 center channel. My plan is to replace the Golden Ear with a Paradigm Seismic 110. I heard it at my local dealer and boy what a sub! Its next on my list for sure..

I'd like to get an opinion on an upgrade I'm considering. I have an opportunity to get a pretty good deal on a pair of Signature S2 bookshelf speakers but their cabinets (piano black) have a slight blem (crack) on the edge of each of them. They are new but used as demos. I would be replacing my front pair of Studio 20's for these. Is it possible to repair the small damage or is it even worth it? One has a small crack on the top front edge just behind the grill, the other has a smal crack on the top edge right side toward the rear. Could I get past the cosmetic issue? Maybe but I really would feel better if the damage were repairable. I have heard a side by side comparison and there is a definite difference between the Studio 20's and the Signature S2's

Here is a description of my humble system:
Studio 20 - front & rear
CC490 - center
REL T9 - sub
Golden Ear Force Field 4 - LFE
Integra 50.3 - AVR
Pioneer BDP62FD - Blue Ray

1Oldschool, If it was me I would definately be able to overlook the cosmetic blemish
on those speakers!!! you should be able to get a really great price for them.
well worth it IMHO

cheers

What sort of advice are you after?

If you're in the L.A. area I can help you out.

OK, I've decided to go with the Signature's all the way around. If anyone is interested I put these up on the classified.:
CC690 $1,170

ADP590 $1,170

They're already boxed and ready. I'm picking up my Sigs today! smile.gif

I will agree with deltadube on his opinion. I personally think the S8s sound much better than the 100s. (I loved my 100s while I owned them)

I am not familiar with the other speaker line he suggested. You might check them out.

Best of luck, ayrton

After a few weeks of auditioning speakers I think I found what hits my sweet spot (and general budget): the Paradigm 100s. The shop is selling them for $3,500/pair. Compared to other speakers I sampled and liked this seems fair, but I'd hoped to find out if this seems reasonable based on others' experience.

If I go ahead, I then need to decide whether to go with the c-490 center channel (quoted price: $900) or the 590 ($1,300). Surrounds will wait and I'll let my current, under-powered front stage take up the rear.

Any thoughts? This is my first serious dip in to grown-up speakers and despite my research I feel a bit out of my depth on this.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom.
