According to paradigm tech support it is a very good match to the 100 v.3's which I assume would mean it's a good match for the 60's as well........

are there any online paradigm dealers?
i bought my fronts and center channel @ a place in charlotte but now they're trying to screw me on studio 20s. They're the only dealer in charlotte though so i'm either screwed or ordering online.

I'm finally getting rid of some of my V.3 stuff to go V.4 and now I am wondering about which center channel to get. I am in a very small room 13x19, but will be moving in year or two and don't know if I should just get the 690 or go with the 590. Does anybody have experience with the two? Is the 690 better or just bigger and louder?

JohnnyV.3, check out the Freeman's in Cornelius. That's the next closest Paradigm dealer and I've always bought from them. Sounds like you must have gone to the new Freeman's in Charlotte...

I just bought the 690 and I think the bass extension is bit better, not sure if you will see a huge difference if your crossin over with a sub... but deff. has great mid bass presence..
I have a much larger room though, thats why I went big... and Im also driving with 200wpc.
What are you driving the speakers with... Maybe that would help determine what you should go with...

Per my question earlier, any users have studio 20's wall mounted as rear surrounds?

Should be $899 + tax. Maybe take a road trip for them. I would stay away from online as Paradigm will not honor the warranty from an unauthorized dealer.

The Good News:

I'm going to be upgrading my current set up ($200 Pioneer Receiver, JBL E80 mains & JBL EC35 Center) with a Denon AVR4306, Paradigm Studio 60's, Studio 20's, and the CC-690 Center.... I can get a great deal on all the equipment and will be saving a bundle... Very excited about the upgrade.... I'm pretty young (25) and have not been involved in home theater for very long.... I think I'm going to be blown away by the new set up... Have all the funds saved up already....



The Bad News:

I'm in a transitional phase... I currently live in the basement of family friends and am waiting on my friend and his brother so that we can move into a house... Most of my stuff (computer, tv, HT gear) is in storage in Maryland.... I can't purchase any of the above mentioned equipment until I move out... I'm saving a lot of money living here as they are not accepting any rent from me but I'm dying to have my possessions back and my own room again...

I plan on buying an Ipod too so that I can load all my music onto it and hook it up directly to the AVR4306 with the AKP100 cable....


I'm going to listen to the v4's this Saturday.... I've heard the v3's and was impressed..... v4's just got delivered about a week ago to my local dealer (Rabson's).....

I'm in the same boat and would be interested in the answer. Just for grins I called the local rep. that sold me my paradigm set up and he said no to the idea of direct radiating speakers, including the 20's for the rears in a 7.1 set up. He doesn't like the direct sound...calls attention to itself vs the diffuse soundstage created by the dipoles.

Another idea I am going to try is to bracket mount my 470's and trying various tilts and moving the speakers to help fill in the rear soundstage. I never felt the rear soundstage was as full as it should be....so instead of adding some diffusion panels or other acoustic treatments (low WAF), I thought I would try either the 20's or mounting of the 470's and adjusting their direction to see what effect that may have.

But like dvdguru, I would love to hear ideas or experiences of others.

I have called into a dealer and they have a Monitor 7v4. I was looking at the Monitor 11's but they don't have any more. I've listened to them and the shop wants $600 for them. I have a cc-370 and mini monitors for the rears. Wouls you say go for them 7vs's or spend $120 more and go for the 9v5's?

I'm driving them with basic crap...Anthem 20 and an ATI 1505. Yes, I have basic sub too, Servo15.
I just don't know what to do. I mean the 570 is certainly enough in my room and so the 590 will probably do fine here and in my next house. But then I'll always know I don't have the top model and will wonder what I am missing. I know the 690 will look silly in my room too. The wife says get whatever you want. (maybe I should marry that girl)

I have an old set of Titans and a PDR-10. There is not a version number on the speakers so I am assuming they are v.1. I bought them almost 13 years ago.

I am making the jump from an old receiver to a new home theater set up. (To go with the new Plasma)

Do you think they will match up alright with the CC-190 and the ADP-190's?

On another note I was looking at a Pioneer VSX-1016TX at best buy which looked okay, but the local dealer was pushing me towards the Marantz SR5001 or SR4001. Is Marantz worth the extra $$$?

So I finally sold my center channel out of my speaker set I'm selling. (60's, 20's, CC-570)
Then I had a friend come over with his V.4 20's and I compared them side by side with my V.3's. Man I wish I would have done this before I sold my center.

What I found wasn't that big. Yes there were differences, but I could be happy with either. Add in the hassle of trying to sell and take a $$ loss. I don't know if it is worth it.

The V.4's sound a tad clearer in the mids than their older counterpart,which is what I was hoping for, but the V.3's seemed a little more up front with everything which I liked as well. I don't know if it was the older tweeter or what, which I think the V.4 was more laid back with. It definitely wasn't a huge difference for me in my room.
So I guess I will continue to convert to V.4 and then go take a shower.

I don't know if this will be of any use to anybody, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I ordered the following for my HT (its about 15' wide by 23' length in size):

7.1 system:

Studio 100's
CC690 Center
ADP-590's for the side and rear speakers
Server 15 Subwoofer

Sony 5200 A/V Receiver

My question is how much WPC do I need? I was thinking of using the Sony Receiver's 120wpc for now.

If not enough, how many WPC would you recommend? Any particular amp that is reasonable in price that can deliver the wpc I need?

It would be interesting if you could pick up the new v4 center (which ever model you chose) and compare/report the timbre match with your 60v3s. Even though my 570 matches fine with my 60v3s, there still is a slight difference in timbre, due to different heights, speaker configuration, and room positioning. Noticeable with pink noise only, but not real movie material. And of course Paradigm says it all should match...

I wonder how much of the "improvements" could be matched with digital EQ. Most rooms could use a little room correction, I plan on picking up a new or used Behringer DEQ2496, to put in my PC hard drive/ Squeezebox digital chain, (2 channel music system with HT bypass) to tweek my 60s. If it works out, maybe another analog EQ model on the HT side, to do the same.

Sounds to me, if nothing else, you could hang on the 20v3s for your surrounds, and save some $$$.

Hey, Lightstrikes.. nice setup you got there... Much like what I did for my setup ..
I couldn't have implimented the adps here though... But let me tell you... your setup will rock.... I am thrilled with the sound of my system...
I have the 100's and 690 with the 20's for rears...
I bought a Pioneer receiver for the temporary Pre/Pro... and leased out the power problem to a Rotel RMB-1095 200 x 5.. I got mine used off audiogon for $1200. I would highly suggest that you power both the 100's and 690 with more power then that receiver will provide.. and let the receiver handle the 4 surrounds,(surrounds require far less power then the Main's and that 690) if your looking to save a few $$ (I have intentions of separates so I needed 5 channel amp) You could probably get by with a 3 x 200 or 250... but those 3 speakers will be looking to have some effecient power...
I won't begin to suggest which amp you should get, as most out there will fit the bill just fine.. I Love my Rotel, but If I would do it again, and I had thoughts of keeping my pioneer for a pre/pro I would go for a 3 channel powerplant, and let my receiver do the job of the surrounds...

Agree with Warp, you are definitely going to want some amp power behind those front three. Although if you start out just using the receiver you are going to experience the true power once you throw an amp in. I have the 100's and 690 powered by an Anthem A5. Perfect match for me.

That is a thought, but I am a "all gotta match type of guy". Plus I think I am gonna try ADP's this time around.
I should have just took a pair home and A/B'd the two before I started all of this. I mainly care about the 60's since I mostly listen to music using just them...and of course they're the hardest to sell. Plus I am not really into selling my Anthem for a receiver with room correction so I'd better get the same version.

Thanks for the offer on the amp, but I think I'll use the dealer I've been working with on the speakers. He's been helping alot on giving advise on my HT construction. I may look at that Anthem amp for the 3 front speakers. 200 WPC seems plenty for the power.

Wise Choice... I don't like shipping, and I like to work with a dealer and put my hands on what Im buying... I was lucky with my amp, used but the guy met me within an hour drive...

You won't be sorry, with all that power when your trying to blow womens clothes off with your speakers....
Also I a/b'd amps and anthem's were very revealing to me, and the rotel's were a little more subdued... which I liked as I have a bright room. Make sure you sample a few different brands if you can...

I was wondering if I could get some advice. I am in the market for some new speakers to replace my 30 year old JBL L40 speakers. I was very impressed by the new Monitor 11s. I compared them to the Monitor 7s, the 600 and 700 series B&W speakers, and some others, and thought they sounded great.

I then went to another high end store and heard the Monitor Audio RS6 speakers, which I thought sounded great too. Unfortunately, neither place had the other speaker, so I couldn't compare them.

Taking for granted the subjectivity of rating speakers, has anyone had the opportunity to compare these head on?

Also, has anyone seen any professional reviews of the v.5 Monitors? I've been trying to research them on the internet but all I can find is reviews of the v.4 models, and my understanding is that they are so radically changed this year that any previous reviews are not worth anything.

I also haven't hear the 9s yet, just the 7s and 11s. After hearing the 11s the 7s just didn't cut it, but I'm hoping that the 9s may be closer the the 11s in terms of soundstaging and presence.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I currently have the v3 Studio 100, cc-570, and 4 ADP-470's. My current subwoofer is mediocre at best. I have a chance to buy a new Signature Servo for around $1800 at a local B&M store. Is paradigm coming out with new Servo lines? I was just curious about the price drop. I am not sure if I want to spend this much on a sub, but it seems like a pretty sweet deal.

I figured that I would go ahead and chime in here as I am also a Paradigm owner.
-1 set of original Titans (with the great tweeter, forget who makes that)
-1 set of Titan v.3s
-1 set of Monitor 5s (original design, floor standing, single lower driver + tweeter config)
-1 Servo 15a (not the v.2)

Unfortunately as of late my Servo 15 has no output and I was wondering if anyone here has had any luck troubleshooting one. I've narrowed it down to the internal amplifier, but that is as far as I have gotten. If anyone has a schematic for it I'd love to get my hands on it to try and troubleshoot it. Sent an email to Paradigm's tech support last week; haven't heard back yet.
