TNT HD - Movies in HD/SD Master Topic - Page 6

Wrong movie, I meant Runaway Bride.

I hate the way TNT HD stretches SD movies. Let me decide how to stretch, or not. And don't call it HD of it isn't!

Ou8thisSN,

Once again, thank you very much for maintaining this list. Thanks also to the many contributors.

I have a few "housekeeping" corrections for the list:

Hope Monte Walsh -- there is no movie with this title in the Internet Movie Database. However, there are two movies with the name Monte Walsh.

Ocean's Eleven vice Ocean Eleven

Perfect Murder and Knight's Tale each appear twice. I recommend deleting the duplicative A Perfect Murder and A Knight's Tale.

Jerry Maguire vice Jerry McGuire

Stepmom vice Step Mom

Girl, Interrupted vice Girl Interrupted

Goodbye Girl this morning was the 2004 made-for-TV version, not the 1977 theatrical release. It was indeed in 1080i HD though.

I noticed that, unlike the stretch-o-vision telecasts, the concurrent TNT-SD channel picture was 16:9. So that may be another clue as to which movies are shown in 1080i on TNT-HD.

There are couple of channels that do that. HBO, Showtime, and Starz stretch material just to say that it is hd even though it is upconverted. The only true 24 hour hd channels I've seen to date are INHD1 and 2, and Discovery HD. I don't get HDnet, Cinemax HD, and TMC in hd but I do know I was tired of watching the statement presented in HD where available and not being able to watch Law & Order in hd because it wasn't available.

Last night, TNT-HD showed Aliens in SD stretch-o-vision.
Yes, but Rules of Engagement shown twice right before that was true HD.
"Life" stretch- o- vision this morning.
Guys, there really is no point in reporting what isn't in HD is there?
Sure it is... It shows how stupid they are. No other "HD" network claims HD when it clearly is not. I would hope that everyone complains and forces them to do the right thing!

"Encino Man" was in Stretch-O-Vision this morning. It also looked like it needed to be deinterlaced or something. Whenever there was any movement lines were present throughout the screen.

The Others in SD stretch-o-vision this morning.
Last night, I compared the versions of Saving Private Ryan shown on the analog and HD TNT channels.

As expected, the (unstretched) 16:9 image on the HD channel showed more picture to the left and right. However, the 4:3 image on the analog channel showed more information near the top border.

Perhaps, at least for this telecast, TNT used two different (and differently cropped) versions of SPR for their two channels.

Sounds similar to Rules of Engagement. I've never seen it on regular TNT or DVD so I can't say for sure, but I think it was a bit zoomed in too. The tops of the foreheads were cut off consistently. It could have been framed that way intentionally, but I'm not sure. I just know that it was annoying. I kept double checking to make sure I didn't have the Zoom on accidently.

Just watched a decent amount of "Saving Private Ryan" and it looked and sounded great. It was also wonderful to see that TNT didnt do a hackjob on this movie and left in everything. F bombs included.

Stripes was in SD stretch-o-vision this morning.

Also, did anyone see or record Word of Honor a couple of nights ago? I botched the HD recording, but I did record the movie on TNT's analog channel. The analog channel presented the movie in 16:9, suggesting that the HD channel likely showed the movie unstretched and thus in true HD.

As a Wizards fan who is new to watching TNTHD, I didn't have much fun watching the Wizards drop a game to the Timberwolves last night--whether in HD or not. I did get some chuckles, though, from watching all the SD commercials being shown in stretch-o-vision. All those fat, extra-wide faces, heads and bodies looked awful. Great! I couldn't have distorted them any better myself. Viewing a stretched SD film would be the pits, of course. No more TNTHD for me until Dec. 8, when they air the Wizards vs. the Pacers.

Ogbuehi, you wrote in #155: There are couple of channels that do that. HBO, Showtime, and Starz stretch material just to say that it is hd even though it is upconverted.

As I type, the Showtime HD channel is airing the 2001 film Stealing Time in the SD 4:3 format with pillars. (I have Cox Comm. cable in Fairfax County, adjacent to you in Alexandria.) Might you be exaggerating what some of the Premium movie channels do?

Anyone know if Medicine Man is true HD? It's on 11/26 at 3 AM EST.
Lord Of The Ring: Two Towers will be on Dec. 9. Hopefully it will be HD.

Legend of Bagger Vance was in SD stretch-o-vision last night. Oddly, the movie started a few minutes before the scheduled start time of 10 p.m.

"See Spot Run" looked pretty good a couple days ago although it seemed to suffer from the same problem as "Sugar & Spice". The middle of the screen looked fine but the sides looked stretched.

Also..... What is with TNT's logo? It seems to jump around the screen greatly. Sometimes it is partly cut off on the side of my screen while other times it is a good inch away. Just found this a bit odd. I still like its simplicity though. I just wish it wasn't on screen all the time during movies.

TNTHD seriously needs to stop having the broadcast in HD popup in the begining of shows that aren't HD. I saw this on "The Lost World". The Lost World TV show has never been offered in unstretched format on TNTHD.

Nope. Stretch-o.

Caught a few minutes of Entrapment and it looked great!

Two movies last night in 1080i HD:

Door to Door

Wool Cap

I think both are made-for-TV movies and produced by Hallmark.

Boys on the Side was in SD stretch-o-vision, and horribly cropped from 2.35:1 to 1.33:1 (then stretched to 1.78:1).
Last night, TNT-HD showed one of the movies already on this thread's "Confirmed in HD" list: A Christmas Story .

Although the movie was indeed in HD, the cropping was horrendous. By comparing the TNT-analog and TNT-HD channels, I found that the HD image was a 1.78:1 crop of the already cropped 4:3 image.
Also, Christmas Story and Twister are edited for content and time.

I watched Christmas story for about 3 minutes trying to figure out exactly what they had done to it. It did have a wider field than the 4:3 feed - but it had less information on the top and bottom - typical of stretch-o-vision. The faces also looked "fatter" than they did on the side by side SD feed - thus, I went back to Lost.

Fried Green Tomatoes in SD stretch-o-vision this morning.

Of course, that means Kathy Bates is stretched once again. She ought to sue Ted Turner. I'm glad that TNT-HD didn't stretch About Schmidt . If you're familiar with that movie, do you recall seeing Kathy in the hot tub scene?
"The Mask of Zorro" was listed on page one as being offered in HD. I watched a couple minutes today and it was very stretched. Stretch-o-vision for this one also sadly.

Updated.

I saw a teaser for Spiderman for a the middle of december weekend. Hopefully that will be in HD.

Also, does anyone else have a problem with the "not in HD" section, in terms of color? on my laptop, it looked a little wierd and hurt my eyes, but it could be me just tired. let me know.
