TNT HD - Movies in HD/SD Master Topic - Page 2

Sheesh folks. Blue Streak was excellent HD and there was no cropping or zooming because the OAR of the movie is 1.85:1

Maybe do a little more research next time...

WTF??? There was insane cropping! Blue Streak is one of my favorite Martin Lawrenece movies and I kept switching between the HD and SD feed... the desert scene didnt look at all like it was sharp/clear as HD usually is. And there was definitely cropping between the HD and SD versions. I dont know, 2:1... i put it on the list but no cropping? please...

blue streak was not cropped ...bgall is right.

You can't tell? I don't watch movies on TNT HD because of the obnoxious persistent logo, the commercials, the edited content, and the butchered aspect ratios, but I quickly checked this movie because I couldn't believe that it's presentation wouldn't be obvious. What criteria do you use to distinguish HD from stretched SD on TNT HD? What display are you viewing?

i'm not telling becuase you'll laugh probably. Anyway, I kept flipping back and forth between the HD and SD feed and the aspect ratio seemed to be the same, except the HD was 4:3 cropped... Some scenes looked really really good, and others looked "SD soft" like Se7en. So based on that I concluded it was SD. but i'm doubting my own confidence now sine you guys seem to be very adamant that many movies i was convinced were SD, are indeed HD...

Any movie that isn't stretched is HD. It's not that complicated.

Movies not in HD that aired last night:

Urban Cowboy (also, not OAR)

Rain Man

Thats it... I cant take it anymore....

WHAR DOES "OAR" STAND FOR???????

maverick was excellent quality....

I dont understand why Maverick was in HD and Se7en wasnt. Shame

A Few Good Men was on last night and personally, it looked really nice. I don't have a DVD of it to compare quality and/or aspect ratio but what is the opinion of that movie ??
If so, this would be the first true HD showing of a few good men on TNT - as it was clearly Stretch-o-vision earlier in July and every showing prior to that .... however, as they have shown it this many times in stretch-o-vision, I doubt its in true HD now.

indeed it was, I was going to update this thread myself, cant believe you stayed up just for that to check on that too!

the negotiator was excellent HD quality though. I'm sure Ali will be equally as good tonight.
The negotiator looked cropped to me..A lot of shots were claustrophobic, similar to what you see from hbo's crop-o-vision((like the one with sam jackson and guilfoyle in the car at the beginning)

Both the negotiator and art of war were shot super35, however they were aired 1.78:1

i'll have to take a closer look at the shot composition the next time they air.

yeah... you do that. whatever it was, I'm very happy that TNT was added to our line-up and the way they keep adding more and more HD transfers, it makes me discover old classics all over again.

I can confirm that Rudy was in SD stretch-o-vision.

updated, btw... did anyone check Jurassic Park III? It seemed stretched to me, but i only switched for about 2 minutes... need more confirmation
post #56 of 581
JP3 certainly didn't look to be in HD to me.
I'd agree that Jurassic Park III wasn't in HD, from the few seconds I spent watching it.

sad, it would have been pretty if it was... I am still perplexed by TNTs policy of airing movies in HD...

"perplexed" isn't the word I would have chosen

I look through their schedule pretty regularly now, and try to guess what might be an actual HD transfer, and its so frustrating.

BTW, I believe Anaconda was "HD", although I can't even hardly tell anymore, but it wasn't the non-linear stretch at least, maybe just an upconvert. Its very grainy.

I just wanted to review it because I recently watched Anaconda II on HBO
