MDM does list it's HD package on it's website( refers you to call MDM), plus includes the HD channels on it channel guide:

Granted right now that it's only the local channels, but many in it's Seattle service area live in apartments and can't install antennas.

The biggest issue, IMHO, is I don't believe they offer an HD DVR.

HD DVR? You are expecting an DVR from a company that can't even manage to broadcast half of their analog channels in stereo? I enjoy watching Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi but if I want decent sound I have to record it from a friends cable system or from a dish! I am utterly amazed they offer any HD at all. It must be because some law requires them too. Millennium Digital Media is a joke of a cable system in the seattle area...

I will have to agree that they are a joke. I had their HD service for a few month before I moved. It was not working most of the time. We were without a couple HD local stations for about 5 days in June. Most of the time the signal was breaking up.
Analog are the worst quality.

When I moved I looked for building with Comcast only. IMHO it should be illegal for buildings to make deals with either cable company. Comcast has lines all over Seattle yet most apt buildings have MDM only.

Also MDM has an exclusivity agreement to service the "Central District" (where most people are below poverty, yet they don't offer "Basic Cable". The cheapest option is $40 a month and because they are not big enough, they are not required to offer basic service...... Go figure...

A lot of that is due to the fact that either ATTBI or it's predicessor (I don't remember the name) was a PITA to deal with for apartment owners. That might change if Comcast is better.

Comcast doesn't carry all the locals yet either (UPN). They only started carrying KIRO within the past year, and I'm fairly certain they don't carry all the PBS subchannels.

I've been "working" with MDM for 2+ years trying to get them to upgrade their HD lineup. I am convinced MDM will not make it as a cable company. Through email and phone, all I get from MDM is lies. They told me two summers ago that HD was coming, yet others have been told that MDM will essentially "never" go HD due to cost.

Unfortunately, my apartment building has an exclusive agreement with MDM, why I have no idea. I've tried talking to my apartment management with no success. Looks like I am stuck with MDM. I will not give MDM a single penny until they decide to enter the 21st century. Since they only offer the OTA channels in HD anyway, it's a no brainer for me to just use a DTV set top box and avoid ridiculous monthly bills.

But yes, MDM is a joke of a cable company at this point. I don't see this changing anytime soon. MDM has promised to contact me when they offer a comprehensive HD package...I'm not holding my breath.

BTW, I am so happy to see this thread started. Let's bash MDM until they get with the program.

The companies press hard to get these agreements.

I have the DVR as well.

Mine keeps rebooting randomly when I switch channels. I hope that gets fixed when they enable the dual tuners.

I don't think there is a standard. It just depends on how stupid the owner is.

MDM already has HD on Capitol Hill.

well, more HD channels are coming next month...that's for certain...as long as they have ESPNHD and HDnet/movies....I'll be ok - and maybe a starz hd channel too

i called cust. serv and they didnt know about anything...jeez they are so stupid!

the HD channels showed up last night...don't know why they call some of the channels like TMC & Hallmark HD channels...we also have PBS HD....I will call to get these channels ASAP..

So I talked to MDM today. To even get HD channels, it's going to cost you big bucks. You must sign up for digital cable in order to get the HD channels ($54/month). The HD channels ($9.95/month), the HD STB ($9.95/month or $19.95/month for HD-DVR)...

After taxes, it either 90 bucks or 100 bucks per month depending on if you want DVR. Not to mention the one time "activation fees" or "install fees."

Another thing, MDM doesn't haggle. At least they woundn't with me. And for some reason, they physically have to come hook up the cable if you get this HD stuff. (Like I want some guy fiddling with my setup )

Anyway should be hooked up next Wednesday. Ultimately, I don't see myself paying 100 bucks a month long term though for such a limited HD package. Hopefully they add some more HD channels, including UPN.

yea, it begins to cost close to 100 bux a month....

I justify it by saying I have an expensive HD set that I need to use...

yup, again...it cost some, but not as much as Comcast

BTW, anyone know if the MDM dvr boxes they use are HDCP compliant on the DVI?

well the dhtv channels look nice...very good...esp. Bikini vacations on HdNet..hahah
i use component cbls - so I don't know about the DVI...

i've seen yesterdays ESPN Giants game...nice...I think 100 bucks a month is worth it plus the DVR <---that's a godsend...
