Could you PM me what you wrote, and to whom? I'd love a $1050 credit.

Sounds like a damaged optical block is your problem. Sony had a replacement program in place for the problem with these RPTVs. Sony's initial exchange/replacement program for this model set sets ended last October. Now, as I understand it, the best approach to getting help for your TV is through the "I Have a Defective Sony TV" Facebook page. The page contains info on how to ask for an offer from Sony for your out of warranty TV. You can see a variety of offers that have been made to owners there.

(I too would love to get a $1050 credit for my set.)

Hey tsigo, I can't PM to your inbox because I have less than 5 posts lol. But, here's what I did...

I guess I was offered a $1050 credit because of my television model I have (50" Grand WEGA 3LCD Rear Projection (KDF-E50A10)). I think Sony offer people these kind of deals depending on what kind of model and manufacture date you have, like what some users said earlier. All I did was call them up by tell them that you have blue blobs/ yellow discolouration on your television and tell them that you heard about the Sony TV Exchange Program and ask if they know anything about that? After that, they will ask you for some basic information and then ask you for your serial number and manufacturers date (which is found behind your television set) and where you purchased your unit from. Once they gather the information, they will send you an email for you to send in photos of blue blobs/ yellow discolouration, serial/ manufacturer's number, and original receipt. (Sending in a picture of the original receipt is optional, the sticker behind your television is most important). I hope that helps, cheers!

Edit: I forgot, but here's the number I used to contact Sony. 1 877 899-7669

LOL, I was just going to ask for the number! Thanks!

I just noticed that that is the number for Sony Canada...won't work for me. Thanks anyway.

Sorry I forgot again to say its a Canadian number. However, you can still contact them using the US number and skip all the computerized messages straight to the live operator lol and just tell them your issue and stuff!

Our TV hasn't had a significant break since the issue developed, however the blue blob has morphed over time, changing shape and position and sometimes it seems more intense than at other times. I haven't been able to correspond this to amount of use, specific viewing material, etc.

When submitting for my replacement, I did find it harder to take a good picture for the requirement to demonstrate the effect than the first picture I took and posted here several months back. I think it may be that the whole screen is now affected to some extent so that the more dramatically affected areas actually don't seem as bad in comparison as they did initially when some of the screen was still unaffected.

The next time it turned on, it had a huge blue blob smack-dab in the center of the screen. I figured the bulb had burned, but waited to replace it since it had just been replaced for the first time and was less than two months old.

This week I ordered a replacement bulb and was dismayed to find out it didn't fix the problem. A quick search on these forums showed that it might actually be a systemic problem with the model. I'm hoping someone can confirm that that's actually my problem, and offer any advice about what to do. The TV was purchased new in January 2006, so it's just about six years old.

Follow-up: Just got off the phone with them. Their offer was a KDL46EX500 for $515 plus tax, or a KDL55BX520 for $675 plus tax.

The KDL55BX520 won't fit in the space I have so it's down to the 46. Has anyone taken a similar offer? I'm assuming the sets are refurbs?

I don't think any of the sets we've been offered are refurbs! (Mine was brand new!!)

Also, I think you can ask about other models/sizes if you want something else.

Today SONY contacted me (they do so every week/10 days or so) asking if I had made a decision. I inquired about the option of receiving a credit like calitoronto and they said no. Something to do with the exchange program is only run out of their facility in Fort Myers and that a credit is not an option.
They knocked another $60 off my price to cover the cost of the bulb I bought trying to fix the problem, so it was $455 plus tax for the 46EX500, which I accepted. FedEx'd the papers on Monday night, they received them Tuesday morning, and they shipped the TV today, expected to be delivered Tuesday. Pretty good.

Hi. Hoping someone on here can help me out. I have the same blue blob issue and contacted Sony. I was offered two 'exchange options'

KDL55BX520 $675.00 + local sales tax
KDL46EX500 $515.00 + local sales tax

I noticed some other people on the forum were able to receive additional options if they asked. I just got off the phone with Sony and they told me that those were my only options and that I couldn't speak to anyone else because I was at the 'highest escalation point.' Anyone know how I can get another offer? I really would like a better model that these offers.

This whole situation is frustrating and killing my desire to purchase any Sony product in the future.

Thanks for your help!

I was offered a 46NX700, but that is going on 2 years ago now. I believe the EX500 is that old as well.

Did you try calling back and asking again? (Don't mention a case # or anything they might've given you the first time.)

If not, check the earlier posts for the facebook page that people were using.

Thanks for the advice. I check ed the facebook page after I posted last night. Someone there suggested I email sonylistens again with a request for specific models. I did. We will see how it goes.

Thanks!

Please update the thread with the latest Sony offers I am very curious
post #10815 of 10847
I see the traffic on this thread has slowed down considerably. It could be that Sony is now requiring terms of their offers be kept confidential.
I saw the following offers posted elsewhere for a KDS-50A2000 SXRD

55BX520 $575
46EX521 $475
46EX723 $580
55NX720 $995

Wish I had of known about this tread earlier as my tv has had blue and yellow blobs for a year or so and I have just lived with it.That said I wrote sony a email telling them my KDF-E42A10.Her was my offer:

KDL40BX450 for $375.00 + local sales tax
KDL46EX640 for $500.00 + local sales tax

Anyone else get any new offers?

I bought my KDF-E50A10 set in Oct '05 and it's been on practically everyday since. It's never needed any service and I've never replaced the bulb. Unfortunately, I think it just died on me..... it won't power on, the power/standby light just blinks green.

Reading the posts above, I had no idea about the blob issues or recall. I almost wish I had that problem in order to get a replacement!

So my questions to the group are:

1) Based on it's age, is it even worth getting a technician out to look at it? (unless there is a simple and cheap fix)

2) Would Sony even consider one of these rebates/discounts to replace this set?

Thanks!

Can't remember the problem associated with " the power/standby light just blinks green." You might want to read the forum and see if it's just the bulb.

It's been a few years since I developed the yellow blob after getting a new lamp....these seemed to develop the problem very often after a new lamp was installed. (Extra heat???)

IF they still are offering replacement sets and you could get a new bulb cheap, it might be worth trying to see if a new bulb would fix your problem and cause the blob, but personally, I wouldn't pay any money to try to fix any significant problem with one of these.

Bulb. I experienced the exact same thing when my bulb went out. As far as the blob. I had the problem years ago and had my set repaired (was still under warranty). I haven't had any trouble since. No more blobs when I replaced the bulb. You can get a new one online at Amazon and others for about $50. A lot cheaper than a new set if you are happy with what you have or want to use your set as a 2nd set .

My kids still use my old TV for games...they don't mind the yellow blobs....

My only concern with a new bulb in this case is that there seemed to be a rash of blob formations when people started replacing their dying bulbs at about the 4 year mark......

OK, not much to lose in trying out a new bulb but wouldn't the audio still be working?
Audio stops when the bulb goes out.

I probably shouldn't even admit this but when I shut off the lights in my office I noticed that the screen had a faint glow even though the front green light was off (and I thought the TV was off). I unplugged it and when I was behind it I noticed the fan was on too. After plugging it back in it turned on as usual.

I checked the lamp usage and it showed 13,736 hrs, so I'll still get the new bulb and switch it out right away and keep the old one as a back up.

I wonder if it will look better?!

Thanks for the feedback!

Good luck!!

Let us know if the new bulb causes the color blobs to form......

As an owner of a KDFE42A10 for the past 8 years or so, I've monitored this thread for little tips here and there. My second lamp finally went. 4-5 years out of each which I think is good. However after it went this time I pulled out the lamp housing and noticed a little haziness on the glass in front of the bulb. I normally replace the bulb itself. Is there any way to safely clean/clear up the front glass? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Folks! Believe it or not I have one of these Sonys as well. Is this board being monitored by members anymore or has it been completely abandoned? Has everyone who had these issues on time already content with there replacements?

I think some of the original folks still subscribe to this thread.

Are you asking if we're happy with our replacement TV sets? (I am!!!)

I love the 46" NX-810 that I received as a replacement. Our 50" A10 is in our exercise room. It still works well enough for my P90X workouts despite the annoying blobs.

My neighbor has a 42" A10 that just went bad and Sony offered him nothing.

Hello again.

RE: Blue Splash on Screen - Almost appears to be "dripping" or flowing in from the edges.

I was being a tad sarcastic as I possibly have the same issues with my KF-E50A10 (MAY 2006) and unreported this late in the game.

I wish I would have known as this issue has been with me for a good two years now, developing at boot up after replacing the bulb while using the original lamp housing. The lamp is still running strong and the problem has not worsened since it started. I thought it was a bulb issue, since the replacement was a Philips of unknown origin at a next to free price. I planned to just ride out this bulb before buying a complete XL-2400 from Sony and my problem will go away. I could EQ it out quite a bit but it has been a sacrifice to say the least. But now to find out it may be an optical block issue is a real shocker. I find it quite odd that many of these posts associate the issues with bulb replacement. Some but not most do not specify if the bulb grew dim after time (as per owner's manual) or failed by means of violent explosion? Mine was through the latter and a big mess.

I cannot help but sense a relation between the two. Interestingly, many of these posts experienced a time delay between lamp exchange and the blue screen splash. I would like to know the ratio of exploded bulbs. How many housing replacements?

This TV was a bit pricey to be lemon from such a good brand. Any thoughts?
