I called on Friday to inquire about receiving credits towards the purchase of a Directv HD DVR. The customer retention rep told me that starting today they arent offering credits but are dropping the price for the unit + install to $299...

Does that require the two year committment? Getting closer to compelling price points.

I just got the deal too. They billed it directly to my CC. Installer will be out on Wednesday to install (I got them to note on the order that running a second line, which will include a wall fish, will be free).

$299 HD-TiVo
$14.95 s/h
$21.98 tax
__________
$335.93
- $100.00 MIR
__________
$235.93
-$30.00 ($5 off HD Pack/6 mo.)
__________
$205.93 effective cost

Yes, a two-year commitment. No biggie for me, though, because I'm in a Charter Cable area that is very poor with HD offerings.

Geting it close to $200 effectively! Nice work.

I just got this too. They could have been out to install on Wednesday, but I scheduled it for Friday AM!
Sweet, I will be selling my Symbio and my LSS3200a now and should end up with money in my pocket!
this makes me glad i told them to take a hike on friday night when they tried to sell me one for $649 before rebate, etc. the CR that i spoke to didn't even mention that there would be a price drop.
well i just called to talk to CR about this and they quoted me the $649 price. this time they added $50 to when i called previously so they told me that they could get it to me for $413.95 after the credits and mail in rebate.

i mentioned that i had a "friend" who got it for $300 and she said that wasn't possible. i made a point to ask about credits, etc and she said that she was giving me the best deal possible on "the best reciever on the planet". re: the $150 credit, she said that it was to cover the cost of installation, and i asked her if it cost $150 for someone to come out and hook up a box. she said yes. that seems a bit much to me. anyway, long story short, i will give it one more try this afternoon, though i am not hopeful.
I finally figured, "what the hell" yesterday and ordered the HD Tivo. I did it with the CR department -- at the $550 price. I just called and changed it, annoyed to say the least that I was not offered this yesterday. In any case, all is right again with the world. I held off forever because of the $999 price, but now, after the $100 back, I am very happy.

So, thanks everyone for the public service announcement. Now, anyone have a great lead on a 5.0%, 30-year, jumbo loan option?

I got the same deal this morning minus the $5 off HD pack. Even if DirecTV doesn't do the MPEG4 swapout for free I figure it's worth it. :)

I called and the best the guy could do was $549 minus the 100 rebate for $449. Sad. Try again later
post #11 of 959
I wonder if it's just for certain markets, I think Dish did something similar.

It seems like everytime I call DirecTV I get a representative with a different story about this $299 deal, but perserverance paid off.

Saturday AM - I called to say that I am quitting DirecTV since Comcast cable was offering HDTV DVR for much less. I had fulfilled my prior DirecTV contract. They offered it to me for $299 - $100 rebate.

Saturday PM - I called back to confirm this offer and they said the $299 is OK but no $100 rebate. What?

Sunday AM - I called DirecTV and they said that the best price was $649 eventhough it was noted in my account that I called and I was offered the deal for $299. Anyhow, after much debate the rep put me on hold and then offered it for $299 - $100 rebate. I placed the order right then and there. It is for a 2 year commitment renewal.

I am located in the Los Angeles area.

On the phone getting the deal right now. It took the CSR some time but he finally found the deal. $299 + $14.98 S/H. Installer coming on Wednesday. He never mentioned a 2 year committment though. I am sure we will have at least one year.
Anybody know if this is just HDTV/DVR or are they also adding OTA antenna?
Just got the deal as well. $299.99 + tax and shipping= $336.71. Installation included as well as 6 months of showtime. 2 year commitment and I still get the $100 rebate.

Be sure to call the retention hotline. 1-800-600-8977.

The rep told me that over the air attenna is $50 but they expect to have local HD channels by the end of the year. I assume that I can still watch local channels through my other DirecTV receiver. But local channels are not that important to me, as long as I get the networks from somewhere.

How do I get this deal as a new customer?

Didn't take long for the price to really start plummeting.. :)
Will they let you break the payments up over 4 installments to your bill or is the money all upfront?
FINALLY!!!! i just called and spoke to someone else and asked about the deal. she mentioned about the notes in my account and then i said that i really wanted an HD DVR and if she couldn't give me the deal that i could go to dish instead for $250. so she said that she could give me the unit for $299 plus the $100 rebate so i am a happy camper. install is coming on tuesday morning. :)

papernut,

i believe that they require a CC to charge it to. at least that's what they did for me and everyone else from what i have heard.

The deal is getting even better. I first read about it tonight in another forum and did almost as well as the best deal there. Cost $299.00 minus $100 instant credit, minus $100 rebate and $20 off total choice for six months. Yes I know that when I add in shipping and handling I have it for just about free or did I make money? This was not even the best deal I have seen. Another guy got the super fan package for free. I had already signed up for that along with a couple of other programming considerations. You need to make sure you are a long standing customer and make sure they know you are reading the forums. When I told them that they gave me the instant credit. They are happy to make us happy for a two year commitment.

I ordered the HD Tivo last Tuesday and called Customer Retention tonight with no success. The rep told me the $299 was just for the HD Receiver only. I told her that I read in several different forums about the new price drop on the HD Tivo and she told me not to believe everything I read in here. I think I will try again in a couple of days. Here's my total cost of the deal I got last week:

$772.85 including tax

$699 HD Tivo w/ off air antenna and dish

- $100 Mail In Rebate
- $250 Credit On Programming

What is the best way to get the new deal since I've already payed for the equipment?
Regarding the credit card question I just had mine put on my bill.

In 4 installments or one charge to your bill?
One time charge. I doubt if they allow the installment with special deals like this.
Just checked my account on line The HD DVR is on there and the $105 customer retention credit is there also along with the first $20 discount for the programing package. As I said you pay it all in one payment. I still get the rebate once it is installed.

They were able to put it all on my bill. There was no offer to spread it out to 4 payments, but I didn't ask. I wanted to pay it on the next bill. I will have sold my receiver by then.

Seen that, I was just wondering if anyone has got it on their bill for like 3 or 4 installments.

wow. that is an insane deal. i tried to get more in credits but was unsucessful. :( however, i am happy that they gave me the hd tivo. i needed a larger tivo and wanted an hd one too. i will try to call back in a day or two and see if they can give me a bit more. i have been there for 3 years and have never gotten any credits so i figure that they owe me a bit.

Talked to Cody in Customer Retention and he hooked me up big time. My previous order had a total upfront cost of $772.85 w/ tax. It included the $100 mail in rebate and the $250 credit on programming. This order only cost me $393.98 w/tax up front with the same rebates. This includes the installation of the new dish and over the air antenna. I'm only out about $50 overall when all is said and done. This deal was only released yesterday. Keep calling until you get the deal!
