What's Best Way to Label Audio/Video Cables??

I'm looking to find out good, long lasting ways to label audio/video lines as to what their purpose is. I've been using masking tape at the end of each line stating its purpose (e.g., front left speaker, DVD video) but the ink and the masking tape deteriorate over time. It is VERY important when lines are run through walls in the house because there's no easy way to find out otherwise.

I'm curious how people have found the "best" way to label audio/video lines.

I found a package of five colored small rolls of electical tape--blue, red, yellow, green and white--at a hardware store for just a couple of $$.

By placing a small piece at each end of the interconnect or speaker wire, and on the both ends of the power cord, and matching color on the component, all is easily now found.

If you have too many more components or cables, just combine two colors and do the same.
