What to expect, what to ask for

Because I trust you guys to give me the straight answers I need, I am asking for your advice as to what I should ask for when the guy comes to install my HD dish next week. I know that these guys try to get buy with doing as little as possible some times.

Current set up
Dual LNB dish on roof (maybe some tree blockage)
Premium Cable run inside house
Powered multi switch
Sony ultimate tv recv'r ( will be kept)

New equipment ordered from D
HD antenna with OTA for HD locals
HD Tivo( I know, but it was cheap and I need HD)

Will the multi switch in the new dish have one, two, three, or four wires running into the house to run the dual inputs on both the UTV and Tivo unit?

Will I need the present powered multi-switch anymore?

Will the OTA have its own cable or will it attach to the lnb in the new dish?

Would it be too much to ask the installer to change out the connectors that look corroded?

Any help would be appreciated. Usually guys will be straight with you but I would like to be informed when they get here

Thnanks,

PS LOGODAVE, if you want to help let me know-HA HA

Hi,

Since you have an existing setup in place I suspect the installer may be able to "recycle" much of that setup...

However, since I'm not familiar with HD DTV setups I'm not one to know what can/can't be reused going from "Standard" to "HD" DTV. IF they do end up reusing the old setup it'd be reasonable to have them test the old cable runs and repair/replace any bad runs...

I'd give Directv.com a look and see if they have any HD cable run setups online for "Do-it-yourselfers"... If not from them maybe they have the manuals for HD Receivers that would have similar info.

Tom, I wouldn't mind hearing about your HD experience, having a "local" active UTVer to bounce ideas/issues off of can be priceless sometimes. :)
