DVD recorder and HDTV ?

I have a DVD recorder with a standard tuner. Is it possible to buy a separate HDTV tuner, attach an antenna (of air) as input, and then plug that into a DVD recorder and then record digital or HDTV? If so, will any HDTV tuner work and are there any potential issues?
thanks much,

The DVD recorders can only record from an SD 480i format signal. Some HD tuners can downconvert an HD signal to SD format, but you won't be recording the higher quality HD format - is that what you want? It would be at best regular DVD quality, probably a bit worse since the DVD recorder has to compress it again.

Thanks much! I guess I need to look for a tuner that can "down convert".

The Samsung HD OTA tuners downconvert simultaneously to the composite and svideo outputs. You can get a Samsung model SIR-T150 OR SIR-T151 quite cheap on EBAY.
