The reason I'm asking is that if this remote won't work, I might have to push my wife a bit to allow the Harmony 720 purchase instead. Please help!

1. likely it will... you know you can go to the website and create your "virtual setup" to see if they have your componenets. That's what I did before even buying my 880.

I've had my 520 for a year plus and love it. Last night I encountered a new issue regarding system shutdown that I don't know how to repair.

My HD-DVD player takes a while to startup and shutdown. When I start the HD-DVD activity, everything starts OK.

The problem: When I shutdown the activity or switch activities, the receiver switching away from the HDMI input causes a break in HDCP handshake and instead of processing the PowerOff IR command, the HD-DVD player sits there with the "HDMI Link Broken" error. A subsequent PowerOff command from the devices list turns the HD-DVD player off properly.

The questions: Is it possible to change the order the devices are shutdown so that the HD-DVD player shuts down first, then the receiver siwtches/shuts down? Are the devices shutdown in the same order they are started for a given activity?

As far as I know, only tech support can do this for you. Give them a call and they should be able to sort it easily.

I think you "might" be able to do this by customizing the options of what to when when ending the activity. For example, when my Watch DVD activity ends, I tell it to send extra commands to lower the subwoofer output by 2 levels. Similarly, you could tell it to send an IR command to Power Off your player. The only part I'm not sure about is whether the extra IR commands are sent before the other commands to switch inputs etc. I think (hope) they are...and unfortunately I'm not home so I can't check this for you right now.

I am unaware that the Harmony software even has his capability, so your indication that you are using it gives me hope, I'll dig through the software when I get home.

I think I have good news for you too. When I switching from watching DVD to watching TV, it FIRST lowers the sub volume by 2, then switches the TV input. The TV input is associated with the activity, whereas the sub volume adjustment was the extra IR command I told it to send when ending the Watch DVD activity. So theoretically, I think you could trick it by having an extra IR command to Power Off the player first, before ending the activity (which would technically try to power it off again). I can't remember where the menu is to add extra IR commands, but I think you can find it when you go through the customize activity, and at the very end, it will ask you if you want to customize it more (when it shows you the summary of things it will do). Hey guys,
Using the 520 for several applications and its working well. I do have one question though. I have the Dish 508 PVR which is both a satellite receiver and a pvr. When I want to watch something that's recorded on the pvr, the only way I have been able to get to that function is to select devices, then the pvr device, then the pvr function from the lcd screen. Is there a simplier way? Can I assign one of the unused hard buttons on the remote to go directly to the recorded pvr programs? Could I make watching a recorded pvr program an activity? Any other thoughts?
The remote that came with the pvr has a button that says "pvr" which takes you to whatever you have recorded. I'm looking to do something like that with the 520.

I have my PVR feature in my "Watch TV" task. So I can control my cable box, PVR, and if I need to change anything on the TV. My first button on the LCD screen is "Recorded Shows" and I also made the * button bring it up.

My problem is that when I use the "Watch TV" task it doesn't switch the Input to HDMI on my Westinghouse. I've gone over it again and again thru the Software, but just deoes'nt. Also it does'nt change the input when I use "Watch DVD" task

Every time I power on My Toshiba LCD goes to the wrong input. I have run the set up wizard several times, what am I missing or what can I do? Thanks

If it's only a problem when powering on the TV, then increase the Power On Delay.

hey guys i just got my Harmony 520 and i love it. i just have one little issue that i do not know how to fix. ex: when i chose an activity everything turns on except the tv always goes into the wrong input. i tried to go seting it up through the computer but it doesnt help. i have to click "help" on the remote and go through the steps for it to adjust the inputs accordingly. there are only 2 inputs that need to be used on my tv for my setup but my tv has like 7. what can i do so the tv skips all these inputs and just switches between the 2 i need? i didnt see an option to disable any inputs on my tv. someone please help me out. thanks

I just purchased this remote... I haven't set it up or anything yet, but I wanted to ask - does this remote feel REALLY cheap to others? like, it bends really easy and makes a rickety/creaking sound pressing buttons. The worst are the top buttons, like devices/help -- the whole remote just makes plastic creaking sounds that you get using a 10yr old RCA remote or something. Hopefully after setting up the remote and using it I'll have a different impression of it

Mine is the same way like if you held the top and bottom and twist it it makes some cracking sounds. I noticed it at first but after you use the remote for awile it kind of breaks in and you wont hear it unless you try and make it happen. No big deal for me anymore. It's a nice remote.

I use my Pioneer receiver for audio with my HD DVD player, with the analog inputs. On the Pioneer, the analog in can only be accessed via a hard button on the front of the receiver. Since I don't use the receiver for anything else, is there a way to program the 520 to only turn on the receiver and not switch to an input at all.

Contact the TV's manufacturer and see if that device has that option. If it doesn't then there won't be anything that your remote can do.

You could also try increasing your Input Delay to something a little longer and see if that works.

You could also try seeing if the discrete commands in device mode work. Press "Devices" on the remote, select your TV from the list, and scroll through the pages of commands until you see things like "InputVideo1" and such. Try them all and see if any of them work.
If none of them work, you're out of luck.

If "help" button helps, not all lost. Go to your device (TV) -> more options -> adjust inputs. There are number of options there. Play with them and find the right one.

Has anyone had a problem with their 520 where it freezes up? This is happening with mine quite frequently. The only thing I can do is take out a battery, wait a few seconds, and replace. I used to think this was due to weakened batteries (especially when the kids would leave the remote wedged between seat cushions), but it's happened with brand new batteries, and I got a multi-tester to verify the batteries were still strong. I've also verified that I had the latest firmware, which I've re-downloaded just to be sure. Do I have a lemon?

If you haven't done so already, I'd suggest that you exchange it. I've had my 520 for 10 months and haven't had any problems like you describe.

I actually wanted to return it very early on (I find it very flimsy) but lost the bill. I guess I have a lemon.

I have a Toshiba HD-A2 and an Oppo 971 in the same rack, being controlled by a Harmony 520. The A2 is the new addition. I set up a new activity to watch the A2, with the same receiver and projector I was using with the 971 previously. When I send an activity-power-off signal by pressing the left-side power button, the Oppo turns on.

I can control all the other components separately with the 520 in "device" mode without toggling power in the 971, but if I use "activity" mode, I get the errant power toggle when I press the black button.

Any ideas what it is?

Is there a way to view and/or edit the list of commands directly in the 520?

Later: Never mind, I solved this myself by deleting all devices and activities, and then reprogramming them. I think the Harmony software sucks, because it doesn't allow edits to the program, or even viewing it.

Yes... I've had this happen too.. The other odd issue is that in the middle of the night I'll find the thing lit up (back light on) - obviously discharging batteries.

Is there a way to run a particular windows command using this remote? I want to launch boxee using this remote.

Edit: Using eventghost you can assign one unused remote button to a particular command. I am using the Info button to launch boxee. And I didn't disable the HID commands.
