It gets pretty warm, but it does not get so hot that you can't touch the outter chassis anymore. I don't think it would double as a heater.

While it is off, and you have TVGOS enabled, it stays warm too, not nearly as warm as when it's on. Apparently the TVGOS downloads use a significant amount of wattage. (~35-40W).

I know the box should be less then 48 inch length so it definely is long enough, but don't know the height of the lcd box. Planning to slide it in the back seat.

I would be greatly appreciated.

My empty box is 16x30x48 and it says 68 pounds on it.

I couldn't quite fit it into a Toyota Corolla sedan because it's too high. It barely goes into the back seat of a Subaru Outback, but it's a little to wide at the top to close the doors.

It will be close!

thanks a lot.. I appreciate the info. Just check my Accord. Is going to be close.

I think i will cut a wallboard to see if it fit in with your measurement.

By the way which Sharp did you get, I hope all the box are the same

i think the key is whether you can get the 30x16 through your door. within the back seat, you should have no problem fitting the screen.

i bought the 32" which fit with plenty of space in our 4 door 2003 Accord, BUT i recall i had to put it through the door at a particular angle to get it in. it is this oepening that will be your limiting factor.

Is there anyone out there who got the TV guide working with OTA channels..not cable/QAM users

My TV Guide works fine with just OTA no cable. I split the line going into both analog and digital. I get all my locals OTA no problem

I don't understand why people can't just borrow a truck from a friend or rent one for $20 bucks at Home Depot. All my friends own an SUV or a pick up of some sort.
Derek , yes the screen will fit, I understand that it will have to be a angle, but just wanted to see about size before I can worry about the angle.

Sdchrgrboy, I have ask about Homedepot rental and lowes but I must show a reciept of purchase (don't know amount though) from them to rent a truck. I cannot just rent and not purchase.

Unfortunely I don't even have any friends, hell with SUV. ^_^

Could it have anything to do with the fact that i got my TVGOS for cable analog channels to download just recently (2-3 days ago) and so now need to access TVGOS to flip thru the channels? Thannks

I hope by now you have your up/down button working, but one cause of this problem is if the remote is in a non-TV mode, ie, VCR, cable/sat or DVD mode. Use the "function" button to select "TV".

jayhui - i just wanted to be clear...beyond the angling issue: the OPENING of your door is smaller than your actual back seat. you should have no problem fitting the TV if you could remove the door from the car, but without modifying your vehicle, your door opening will be the limiting factor. (ie, you can't put the box in parallel to the seat since the Accord's rear door (or any passenger car for that matter) doesn't open "full wide.")

i hope this makes sense. i am guessing it will work (the 37" isn't that much bigger than the 32", but it might be slightly taller so that it makes life a bit more difficult. good luck!

Sorry if this is a dup.

Posted from Insight Media's Display Watch.

Sharp showed a 37-inch, 500-nit, HD (1920 x 1080) "mega-contrast" LCD with a contrast ratio of a million to one! (That is not a typo.) In a darkened room, the blacks were so black they were indistinguishable from the matte black surround, and an image of five candle flames emerged dramatically from a completely black background (see photo). As you look at the photo, please remember that the contrast ratio you see can be no better than the contrast ratio of the monitor you are using - probably a few hundred to one. No product plans as yet, but Sharp identified professional TV and cinema production monitors as possible applications

I have the 37D5U, and I assume the box sizes are the same.

To get it in the back seat of the Subaru, I had to move the seats forward to angle it in past the door.

The new Accord is supposed of have rear head room of 38.5 inches and rear hip room of 53.5 inches. You should have enough room for the tv in the back seat if you can get it through the rear door. If the lowest part of the rear door is over 30 inches above the seat, you're probably OK.

I have this exact same problem with my ATI Radeon 9550. My "workaround" is to have the PC powersave the monitor after 5 minutes. When it awakes the monitor it will resend the signal through the DVI port. It's not ideal, but it's better than rebooting.

As for the green tint problem, make sure your TV is set to receive PC Digital in the menu

Ok, I've read all the posts that I could find regarding cablecard/TVGOS for the Aquos LC-37D5U, and I'm having problems. I just got a new D5U after returning one with bad pixels (thank you Costco!). Anyway, the first set did download the TVGOS and everything worked fine. Every morning I'd wake up to the red light that indicated the tv was downloading. A few days before I returned it, however, the TVGOS information disappeared. It has never downloaded with the new tv. I have a SA cablecard (the same from the old set) and the cable is split into Digital Cable and Analog inputs. I do notice that the few channels that I used to receive as 'Analog' now show as 'Digital' (PBS, Spanish channels, etc). Is it possible that my cable company is now broadcasting everything in digital, and that the TVGOS cannot download from anything but Analog (as documented)? Is there anything I can do about this? I live in Manhattan, and have Time Warner. Any thoughts? I do notice that the tv will be tuned to a different channel each time I turn it on, as if it's 'searching' for the PBS channel and the TVGOS info. Thanks.

Have you checked the TVGOS thread -

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...=1#post6401443

It contains some interesting information. I'm on Comcast with a Motorola CC and Comcast hides and analog version of PBS on ch. 97. Downloading the info seems very erratic - I never seem to have more than three days of info at a time. I'm still working with Comcast and Sharp.

I have the 37" Aquos GB5U, hooked up to my PC via DVI (Radeon 9600) with a DVI-I cable. I set my Aquos to Power Management Mode 2. Whenever my PC Sleeps/Standby - the LCD correctly enters "Power Management Off" mode. But, the LCD doesn't automatically turn on when the PC comes back from standby. I have to manually hit the LCD Power button. Anyone experience the same?
and got the LC-37GB5U instead. My LC-37D5U turned off and on a few times while I was watching it...and the last time it happened, I noticed some dead pixels on it when it came back on. I guess it had a bad amp/power supply etc.

btw, the 37GB5U is a sweet TV although I think "white" colors are a little too white so far. I didn't care for the TVGOS.

did anyone eles have similar problems?

The note on page 49 of the manual says:

When using a digital PC and setting "Mode2" in Power management, the power many not turn back on automatically even if the signal inputs again.

I guess you're out of luck. It sounds like it would work correctly if you use the analog PC input instead digital.

Does anyone have a problem with the input display? Very randomly, my input display pops onto the screen and then disappears on its own. It's annoying as all hell, but I have no idea how to stop it from randomly appearing.

Anyone else have a problem with the Input Display popping-up for no reason?

Would appreciate your response, and if possible, how to stop it!

Owell. Not that big of deal but would be nice. Haven't tried with VGA (analog) but analog though DVI (DVI-I) doesn't work either.

I think somebody here said it stopped when he hit both reset buttons on the back.

I'm not sure why it happens. I suppose bad connections might cause it. You can try unplugging and replugging the cable connection, and make sure the connectors are good.

What I think it has to do with is that your tv is reacting to different signals . Like if the tv thinks its in surround and then goes to stereo the display will pop up. Look at the display box when its doing it and see if its changing in the blue box. It could be one of your pieces of equipment might be changing and your tv is reacting to it. I've only seen it a few times before on mine. Just a hunch I don't think its the tv causing the problem its just seeing the changes.
Also do a search on "Sharp lc 37d5u problems" and on page two theres lots of comments on this problem.

How does one disable the TVGOS? I cannot find an option in TVGOS and the manual has lots of info -- except that nugget... and since the guide is redundant with my cable guide, and eats up so much energy, I'd like to kill it.

I don't believe that will save any power - all it does is prevent the Guide from being on-screen when you power on the set. Other than that, the TVGOS should work the same.

You might try telling the TVGOS setup you have no antenna and no cable - this is an incomplete setup so it won't do any searching, but I have no idea if it will save power or not.

On my set the TVGOS works very erratically. I don't think I have ever had all eight days listed.

In the two months I've had the set I have yet to set the download indicator lit!

Have any of you other D5U owners seen the indicator lit? If so, how long does it stay lit? Does it just flash or does it stay on for the entire d/l - up to 3 hours?

I am with Comcast using a cablecard but don't even recall seeing the d/l indicator being lit before the CC was installed.

BTW, a great source for TVGOS info is available at:
