My interests: anything SED, anything 6th gen Pio plasmas, anything 61" 1080p Pio plasma, anything 65" 1080p Panny plasma.

I would appreciate if CEDIA attendees could report on any of these.

I am not attending CEDIA but I would like to read reports of:

-HD DVD/Blu Ray player deveopments and particularly will the output res be 1080i or 1080p?

-1080p displays; large LCD or plasma, that ACCEPT 1080P directly

-New display technology such as LED backlit LCD's, SED, et al

-MPEG 4 viewers reports: really interested to see if MPEG 4 gives us better PQ or is just another compression algorithym that compresses the heck out of HD?

-Video Processors that are 1080p capable with multiple HDMI inputs

So, is anyone expecting any ground-breaking flat-panel news at CEDIA? Will OLED make any announcements, or maybe Samsung will actually release its 102" 1080P plasma and stop showing it as a 'technology piece'.

There isn't any chance of a real product announcement behind the Samsung 102-inch model, but the 80-inch model should have an actual product number and they might well be quoting a date that will slip by 6 months or so (which is pretty good for Samsung).

There will be nothing relevant from OLED, alas. SED will likely be on display behind the typical closed doors.

Mark, do you think the driving factors in 1080P front projection will assist in driving down the costs of larger flat-panels of the same resolution?

I would be really appreciative if someone would be willing to stop by the Sony booth & ask the following:

1. What's the future for Qualia? Any chance of expanding this technology to smaller sizes?
2. Any possibility of expanding the new KLV or KDL lcd lines to include a 37" size?

Not really, the economics are very different.

But I do think the continued arms race in flat panels means that we have at least 2 more years of 25% pricing declines and I don't see 2007 as the floor price either.

I understand that Tosh backed out of their presentation of HD DVD at the last minute; but the BD folks were supposed to be holding some event on Fri at noon (reps from Sony, Disney, and Fox). Any info, rumors, or wild guesses wrt BD (or speculation on what's up with HD DVD) would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is Pio showing the new 43 and 50 inch plasmas? If so, how do they look, do they have a setup that allows you to tell anything about how the blacks match up to a Panny?

Finally, anything from D* on the timeline of the mpeg4 transition? HMC still scheduled for early 06, before the HD DVD as reported? I have only seen one press release from D* since CEDIA started, and it had nothing to do with HD.

Curious, why would one need to restrict themselves to a Sony BD 1080P demo? Couldn't any display manufacturer use a laptop of some 1080P WM9 material for demonstration of a display's capabilities?

By the amount of sparce information on CEDIA+FlatPanels, is it safe to say either CEDIA focuses more on FP/RP or that flat panel products are released too often to have them as a center-attraction at a show like CEDIA?
