Chicago, IL - DBS

Well here I am in DTV Chicago HD hell.

Turn on the TV for some NFL HD action and to watch the lame Bears for the first time in HD. Look at the guide and it says FOXE lists the Bears v. Skins but guess what it's NO v. Jax. So I get to watch my Bears lose in wonderful SD.

Not that this second gripe is with DTV but ABC Sports has got to be the worst. 3 top games on Saturday and not one of them is in HD.

Mich v. ND - nope
Iowa v. Iowa State - nope
and worst of all Texas v. OSU - NOPE

If ABC can't get their act together and start giving people games in HD when ESPN can they should just resign from their contract.

What a terrible weekend of HD for me.

I don't really pay attention to the NFL except the Bears. But whatever the Loval teamnot being in HD is horrible DTV better get on the ball or I will be taking my $110 a month to Comcast.

I thought DTV was free OTA via an antenna?

Not living 30 miles outside of the city. It looks like you are in a snow storm.

I believe you mean D* not DTV. DTV is digital television and is available many different ways.

And yes, that is why i left for Comcast. D* East and West thing is terrible for sports which is subject to blackout. This means you are forced to watch the locals which are not in HD as of yet unless you can use an antenna. Not to mention not being able to watch Bulls, White Sox and Cubs games in HD because of no WGNHD or Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD.

Then on top of that Notre Dame will be in HD also on NBC but this will probably be blacked out on NBCE feed which will force you to watch NBC-Chicago in SD.

3 Years ago i went with DirecTV for HD and without looking Comcast buzzed right past them as the clear HD choice for Chicago sports fans.

Hawkeye7-- where about are you? I'm waay out past 59 & 95th and I get fantastic reception OTA. And saw a bunch of lousy football in HD.
I got the game OTA in HD yesterday on The north side of Waukegan with an 88-90 signal strength. There were problems during the Packers/Lions game, the audio was out on the HD feed, but it was fine onthe analog feed. But by then, I was watching on Comcast, not OTA.

Has anyone heard anything positive about D* picking up Comcast Sports Net Chicago in HD? Maybe it will be added when D*'s new batch of local HD channels finally roll out?
Retitling this thread and adding to the Thread Index. This will become even more necessary when D* adds HD-LILs.

I have to agree. I added Comcast back in June because I really wanted Comcast SportsNet HD, Cinemax HD, TNT HD, & INHD 1&2. I get the HD locals fine OTA, but Comcast is nice for backup. The 6412 DVR is pretty nice too. I am very pleased with Comcast at this point.

I'm continuing my (expensive) D* subscription as well, in fact I picked up on the HD Tivo deal last month. I hope the MPEG4 transition goes well. I want to get back to one carrier as soon as D* makes all the national HD services and Comcast SportsNet Chicago HD available on the new system.

Thanks, CPanther, for the e-mail note about this thread. It should be very interesting when the installations of the MPEG4 dishes and receivers begin here, hopefully in a couple of months.

This weekend is off to a bad start as well, with FOX the probable culprit.

SOX at Minnesota - no TV at all!!

The 11:10 AM starting time has something to do with this fiasco. I think FOX has rights to any game before 3 PM on Saturday, so WGN and Comcast SportsNet won't be allowed to televise this game.
Btw Fox waived it's exclusivity rights but other things transpired to not allow the game to be televised.

30 miles isn't that much Hawkeye. There are no snowstorms with digital TV. WFLD puts out a strong DTV signal.

Hey, anyone in the Chicagoland area here get CBS-HD through your satellite provider? Are you on D* or E*? Also, did you need a 'waiver'? What do you need to do to get it? I assume it's an east or west coast feed. If so, do you get any sporting events (NFL in particular), or is it always blacked out?

Sorry for all the questions, but I seem to be a little too far out to get CBS-HD OTA reliably. And our cable company (Mediacom) sucks by not offering HD yet. So I may break down and go with either D* or E* if I can get a CBS-HD feed.

FunkyBoss,

I am on D* and get the east coast HD feeds of CBS, NBC, ABC, and FOX. All I had to do was call D* and ask for the waivers. Because the stations are O&O, I was granted the waivers in 1 day. The east coast feeds show the NFL games that show in NY (obviously NY teams 1st choice), and I have yet to see a blackout even though I also subscribe to Sunday Ticket HD (SuperFan).

Can anyone who has had the new D** system (with AT9 dish and H-20 receivers) installed, tell me what channels are being offered in HD for the Chicago market.

Is it just the 4 major networks, or are WGN, and others having their HD signals transmitted also.

Thanks.
It's just the big four. Put your zip code in at http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/see/Lo....jsp?init=true and you can see what is available.
One more question, did you lose the network HD feeds (80,82,86,88) when you switched over to the new local HD's?

Hey guys, a buddy of mine told me about D* calling him to come out and install a new 5lnb dish. I havent heard anything about it. he lives in NY. Is it going to happen here as well? What will this give us? More HD channels? I love HD.
Im with the rest of you guys, I need Comcast in HD, then my life would be complete.
I live in Elgin and my OTA is excellent. But the more HD Sox games I can get, the better.

The 5LNB with HD LIL is available currently from D* for Chicago.

Currently, the only channels you will get are the big four networks. There are plans to add WGN, and a few others in early '06 (at least the rumor mill says so)

If you get OTA channels and want Comcast HD, I suggest switching to Comcast. There are rumors that we will eventually get the Regional sports networks in HD, but I would not count on Comcast SportsNet HD being on D* anytime soon (if ever).

The 5LNB is really only for people who do not want to mess with an antenna or people having trouble getting channels (like CBS). Eventually, everyone will want the new dish to be able to get national MPEG 4 channels when they start up.

I have not yet lost them. (Yeah!) Although I am sure there is some point in time when D* will kill them for everyone who has an AT9 dish.

Consider my case an anomoly though. Even though I was told twice by the CSR that they would be bringing me an AT9 dish, the workorder showed the regular dish (not even the triple LNB) The guy had an extra AT9 on his truck and installed it, but since he said that it was supposed to be $100 extra to install the AT9 he left the workorder as is (showing the basic dish)....so D*'s computers probably show me with a regular dish and not an AT9.

Thanks sleeks, thats what I was looking for. My OTA looks great so screw you D*.

Has anyone in Chicagoland lost their NY HD feeds (Ch. 80, 82, 86, 88) when activating an H20 with an existing 3LNB dish? I have no interest in the AT9 until new national HD channels become available in MPEG4 (2007?), but I am thinking about getting a "free" H20 to replace the five-year-old built-in DTC100 in my RCA F38310.
How are the Chicago MPEG4 LIL doing?
Other threads on D* HD LIL talk about audio drop outs Etc.
