Talking about Bobby, think how much fun he could have had with that library....

Got to say this was a series reboot. The first half of the season I had come to the conclusion it was time to hang it up. Too much infighting and too many repetitive stories. Now it a whole new game. There are so many directions they can go, possibly one of two more seasons of stories now.

I agree, the past two episodes have been pretty damn good.

Pretty sure that makes it the second longest running show on the network (including UPN and WB), behind "America's Next Top Model".

Smallville ran longer.

Great episode.

As it should, it's all going to fall on Sam's shoulders to seal the deal.

This is the perfect setup to end the series.
The gate is closed and the boys can finally have a "normal" life.cool.gif

I don't think it's the perfect tie up, if we have to wait a year+ to see it. The show has been renewed for next season, and they drag out the two remaining tasks out that long it will be very frustrating.

It could work.

Crowley finds out what the tablet says and that Sam has completed task 1.
He throws up constant road-blocks to stop Sam from accomplishing the other 2....moving heaven and hell (so to speak) to the gates open.

No way they could plausibly do that for the remainder of this season + the entirety of next season too.

I know they split Lucifer over two seasons... but one season was trying to stop Lucifer from getting free, and the next was fighting Lucifer after he got free.

Having a 3-step task, completing step 1... and then spending 1.5 seasons on the next 2 steps? That isn't the way they have done these sorts of things.

My gut says that they will complete the tasks, and seal off the gates of hell... but that it will come with a price. Consider... sealing the gates of hell means any demons on earth probably are stuck there... where can you exorcise the demon to IF you locked the gates of hell? Also, sealing off hell might seal off heaven as well... it might be a catch-22... so maybe nobody can go good OR bad if you seal the gates to hell permanently.

Otherwise... wouldn't you think God would have done that already? I mean, if the tablets are the word of God... then it seems like IF it were a good idea to seal off hell, that it would have come up before.

I agree with you, but also, don't just think about Heaven and Hell. There's also Purgatory. Closing the gates of Hell could open the gates to it.

Good point....except this series has done things in the past that defied "plausibility."wink.gif

Another good point.
However, "the boys" are not fans of heaven either.
Dean most assuredly (and probably Sam too) would say "f_ck it, seal both of 'em."

"God" in the Supernatural Universe is not a hands-on kind of diety, but an aloof and somewhat capricious god.

I thought God was still gone? They never said he came back. A couple seasons ago they said God abandoned the angels and was hiding on earth somewhere. I still don't think he is around controlling things anymore.

God only seems to steps in to "set a balance". Like when he saved Cass where there was not hope of him living. If another way is to be had, he seems to let it be. I just hope we see Death again.

Also a good point. There is a saying I have heard before... "when God closes a door, he opens a window"... that might apply here. Close the door the hell, but what opens to balance the scales?

God (in the Supernatural universe) created Purgatory and intended that to lock away the really dangerous stuff... vs clearly having a revolving door policy with heaven & hell that allowed beings to come and go as they please to some extent... but Purgatory had to be breached intentionally, and arguably was probably not in his "plan".

Agreed. We may or may not have seen God on the show... but he (she?) has intervened a time or two to balance things out. We don't know if God is "for" Apocalypse, but we can surmise he was "against" the archangels trying to force the Apocalypse to happen early... and while he probably was not "for" all of Castiel's decisions, he was not "against" Castiel either, since he has resurrected him.

So... it's the "plan" vs "free will" at work... and it seems like God is still paying attention and will step in to assist/nudge when things are WAY off plan.

"Okay, I'm nesting!"

God, I love Dean's one liners.
I was thinking how much this is the "X-Files" with Dean doing the Mulder role and Sam the "Scully" straight man. Of course the series was started by refugees from the "X-Files." I think the thing that has helped keep it on the air is the humor and that the show doesn't take itself seriously.
This season is just freaking excellent. Loving it. Dean makes the whole show for me, the little things he does, like when he was talking to the familiar and he turned to Sam and was like, "A little help here. No. Ok then." Just the way he delivers it is so funny.

I wonder what the second trial will be.

Just watched the new episode and really enjoyed the "classic" type of Supernatural episode: Sam and Dean try to save the innocent from the forces of darkness.
Great humor and drama, with a hottie thrown in.

I'm wondering when Cas will show up again.....
I guess I disagree, felt like a bad filler episodes to me. At this point we are at the end run for the season, there may be 7 or 8 episodes left, we should be getting more meat.

I like these more than the un-"filler" episodes. In my mind, what most refer to here as "filler" are really the "meat". Short Stories vs Novels. Those episodes that only serve to move the season arc along are really the episodes that I could do without. They just seem like extended versions of something they could have tightened up and interwoven with the weekly episodes. But it is probably a lot of work to research threats/monsters/myths and develop new and interesting stories around them, it is likely much easier to develop a single season-long story in 13-22 acts.

I sort of wonder if they close the gates of hell this year, but Crowley and crew will be trapped on this side trying to close the other side with the Angel tablet, which will be the overarching arc for next year.

Hmmm....I hadn't considered that....

An interesting episode...The Boys vs. Greek gods.
I didn't realize it before, but this was the first time they have went up against Titans.

After Dean's "prayer," I suspect Cas will be showing up soon.
Good episode. Though it would have been really nice to stretch it to a 2 or 3 episode arc (Artemis/Prometheus love angle and doesn't Zeus deserve a bit more screen time?)

Agreed. You wouldn't think Titans would be disposed of so easily.

I think Titans could serve up a big can of whoop-ass on any Christian angel.

But they did go up against a whole group of Gods several seasons back... Lucifer scared all of them away (all of them that he didn't kill that is)... they had some of the Greek Gods there as well as Norse, Indian, and a few others. It was also the episode where they killed off Loki/Gabriel.

I thought the explanation was that the gods' power grew or waned according to their believers/followers.

Which makes this old quote a little ironic in the Supernatural world.
“The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world that he did not exist. --Charles Baudelaire”

Not really.

The devil isn't a god. He's more like a corrupt small town sheriff who is out to nab you for violating even the teeniest letter of the law.
