Controlling a fan

Hi,

I have a fan that has a remote control that controls power/speed/oscillation, etc. The fan is a Holmes Blizzard. My MX-500 will not learn the signals from this remote. Is there something about the signal for this fan that makes it 'unlearnable'?

I am hoping that the Harmony 680 I have on order will have better luck.

Am I out of luck?

If the Fan is RF, no remote will be able to learn it. Can you control the fan without line-of-site?

Seems to not work unless the fan's remote is pointed at the fan. So I'm guessing it's IR. Any way to confirm this?

a quick call to the Logitech helpdesk solved my problems. The tech guy walked me throgh how to learn commands on the H680. One of the fan commands took a couple of attempts, but now it works!
