There has to be a way to fill the screen because I don't want to have to get a VGA>DVI scaler just for the 360. =/

I think the 631 series do not scale up and only state PC when running at 1080p

the 732 series seems to scale and states 1080p when set to 1920 x 1080

I get the feeling that the 631 and the y65 like mine does not support 1080p analog.

when I choose 720p is says 720p standard and zoom.

according to the manual if you pick 1080p then you should be able to hit the format button and have two options reduced and standard.

I purchased my MITS WD65732 on 3/3/07 and it has just started the "airflow is blocked" message. The set will not come on at all now -- I tried unplugging for 20 min and hitting RESET, but I get the message when I power up the set.

Sometimes I have also encountered where I turn on the set and I get a blue screen. I hit Input and change to HDMI2 and back to HDMI1 (sometimes a few times) then I get a picture. I have not seen this mentioned in the forum before, does anybody have an opinion on this?

I do not look forward to calling MITS; I have been trying for over 2 months to get parts that were missing from the TV stand!

I'm gettin' a bad feeling about this...

I have a 65732 which was manufactured on jan 2007, it doesn't say PC1080 instead it says PC and thats it. I believe it needs a firmware upgrade to fix this problem, but i'm not finding any info on the firmware upgrade.
yes mine says the same - I would like to know what the firmware should be and how to check if we are up to date?
you hit menu then setup mine says 8.01 - is this the most up to date?

Yea mine says V33 8.01
same as you. I'm not sure if thats the latest, but i asked someone that has PC1080 running fine with the xbox360. hope he responds to it.

edit: the person has v33 8.00 an older firmware. So why is this new firmware worse???

edit2: If i reset the Tv to default settings will the old firmware 8.00 be back??

Actually, I read a product info sheet on the 631 and it said it can't accept 1920 x 1080 over PC analog. =/

The WD-73732 is $2449 this weekend at Fry's. Yes the 73".

I have been watching for months now and the best price I ever found was $3799 before this. The normal slae price has hovered around $5,000.

Call ahead. Fry's cycles their sales through their stores so yours may not be on sale until next Friday.

Even before calibrating it, the picture is remarkable.

What a Mother's Day Sale!

Well, the thing is, I can display 1920 x 1080 over analog on my unit, but it doesn't completely fill the screen, which is annoying. Pressing format doesn't work, but interestingly, when I set it to 1280 x 720, I can press format, but it will be the same screen size as the 1920 x 1080 setting. I just gave up and started playing with the black borders last night.

yes the 3 of us mustang you and I are reporting the same.

Maybe the 2007 models do not support 1080p via the vga.

Or maybe the older firmware 8.00 was better that what we have.

Either way how are u playing with the black boarders?

what are you color settings and such for vga please?

do you do hd-dvd via your xbox360 like mustang and I?

How about an ETA, when should they start hitting stores?

Has anyone heard of any picture quality improvements from the 31 to 33? They better have something interesting if they are charging $6k for their 73" DLP. :-)

Good thing the mits are here to give Sony competition. Now Sony might actually have a reason to upgrade picture quality.

VGA? Which model has VGA. I thought they all had DMI. I've owned (don't ask) a 52631/57731/57732. They all had DMI inputs. 1920x1080 worked fine. However, I went DMI to DMI.

They do have dvi and I need vga-dvi adapter.

vga is analog, dvi is digital. An adapter can't fix that.

I've followed this thread since I purchased my 62827 in Jan 06 and I'm not sure I've ever seen this question squarely answered; How can you tell if your bulb is on its way out? I've seen some folks talking about a loss of "wow and pop" leading them to think the bulb was going but that's not real clear to me. Am I correct in assuming you will see a noticeable "dimming" before the bulb goes, as opposed to traditional light bulb that's here one minute and gone the next? If so would someone who has experienced this quantify the degree to which there was dimming and how long before it became very noticeable?

As it appears bulb life varies significantly (if I'm wrong please let me know the average life) I ask this question because I'd like to be ready with a replacement as the eventual day nears when I'll need a replacement. If the dimming is dramatic and sudden then there isn't much lead time. Any insight based on experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply, but basically it's just set through analog and the only setting I have messed around with was the contrast at 55. Putting the reference level to expanded (0 IRE) really improves the PQ but I still would rather have full screen 1920 x 1080 instead of the black borders. I'm wondering if a VGA to HDMI scaler would do the trick. I really don't want to have to pay $400 for some of those Gefen scalers. I might as well buy an Elite instead (which I don't want to). XD

And no, I don't do HD-DVD through it, but I'm thinking I should considering Sam's Club is selling the add on for $75 bucks. ^^
post #3777 of 5390
WOW the HD-DVD for 75 bucks?

That is a no brainer - I had my set calibrated and the component XBOX is perfect as well as the direct tv via HDMI.

Do not waste your time on VGA - 1080i versus 1080p only matters if you are watching fast moving objects on the screen like sports. 720p is much better for ESPN and such.

Believe me after pro calibration the set looks way better and xbox via component is awsome. much better than vga due to the grayscale and picture temp options not found in PC/VGA options for the set.
I purchased one of these sets a while back. It was Mitsu's first line of 1080p televisions at 52". Which meant, it won't accept a 1080p signal, but it upscales every input to 1080p. 1080p also being the set's native resolution.

Questions for you out there:

Sell the set and get a newer 1080p Mitsu DLP?

Sell the set and get a 1080p LCD?

Am I going to see a difference?

Stay with the set and upgrade in 3 or 4 years (I've owned it for almost 2 years)?

I have the HD-DVD add on for the Xbox 360, and an upscaling Sony DVD player. Also Digital Cable w/ HD and HDMI.

Any thoughts?
