My Name Is Earl - On NBC! - Page 3

I thought it was brilliant.

(From Marc Berman’s Programming Insider column of Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at Mediaweek.com)

“…In week two news, highly-sampled NBC sitcom My Name Is Earl took a hit, dipping to a still respectable 8.1/11 in the overnights (#3), 11.06 million viewers (#3t) and a first-place 4.9/12 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Last week, Earl opened with a considerably heftier 10.3/15 in the overnights, and 15.25 million viewers and a 6.6/16 among adults 18-49 based on the final nationals. Even so, growth for My Name Is Earl out of lead-in The Biggest Loser (Overnights: #2t, 5.8/ 9; Viewers: #4, 7.38 million; A18-49: #3, 2.9/ 8 from 8-9 p.m.) was still significant at 40 percent in the overnights, 7.87 million viewers and 69 percent among adults 18-49, and still worthy of a winner’s ranking….â€

My wife wouldn't watch the first week, but I think she enjoyed this episode. Sure hope the show doesn't have trouble getting people to watch it the first time!
I thought it was not as funnier as the first one but still it's good. I put a season pass in my DVR for it.
I didn't watch the first episode but watched this one. Right now I can either take it or leave it. Since there are other shows on I prefer during the same time slot I think I'll levave it but I do see why many people would enjoy this show.

Yes, the first episode was clearly better than the one last night. But it had it's moments, so far it's solid.

I liked this weeks show better than the opener.

I will give it a couple more weeks before I finally decide.

I am curious. What does the relative minority on this thread who actually don't like the show watch on a regular basis? If your shows are truly better than this, then I'd like to take a look at them.
Reality shows with people eating bugs. :D

It's two and out for me, I killed my season pass after Tuesday's episode.

What do I like if I don't like this show? Sitcom-wise Scrubs is good for a chuckle, and there are 3 other shows on at the same time as this show that I will watch long before I tune in Earl again. Hey, if you like it that's fine, I hope it hangs around for those that enjoy it.

Most of the shows you mentioned used a real audience and not a "laugh track". There's a huge difference between the two and the difference can make or break a show. Laugh tracks usually detract from a show, while a good show with an audience that is into it (such as Everybody Loves Raymond or Home Improvement) can really make a great combination.

I found the laugh track in M*A*S*H annoying, but the show was good enough to overcome it (it was actually originally slated to not have a laugh track, but the execs thought it might seem to heavy without it). On the other hand, the audience reaction was often the only way I found Seinfeld funny.

Man, that guy is everywhere. He was in CSI:Vegas last night.

After two episodes, it's tough to gauge what the show actually is...

The pilot/premiere was more comedic, and the first episode seemed more dramatic and somewhat slapstick.

I'm still enjoying it though. I think the show can lend itself to both comedy and dramedy, which will keep me watching for a while as it keeps the show fresh. If they go down the whole slapstick route though, I'm done.

The scene where Earl abuses the "take a penny, leave a penny" rule was the best in the show. :D
post #74 of 286
My favorite part on the second show was at the garage yard when the brother (haven't gotten the names yet) asks about the ashtray and the old man replies with the throat vibrator thing. :D

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. That was great too. :D

My wife and I laughed several times out loud during the first two shows. Funny stuff. Jason Lee is really good at this...his facial expressions at times are priceless. Let's hope Earl sticks around.

I'm still undecided on this one. I can pretty much take it or leave it at this point.

Maybe post number three of this thread will help you decide... :p

I juust rewatched the first two episodes. Just as funny if not moreso the second times. I'm really impressed that they packed so many laughs into the first five minutes of the first episode.

Finally dawned on me who the black guy (crabman??) is who is with Jaime Pressly - he's the "rubber band man" from the Office Max commercials. Been buggin the heck out of me.

Love that commercial.

Missed that.

Those commercials keep my foot tapping all day long. Now I'm gonna crack up every time Darnell is on the screen.
I didn't make that connection either from the earlier post... :p

On Leno last night(I think it was last night..) Jaime Pressly was a guest and they showed a clip from an upcoming episode, her last line in the clip is hilarious(it has something to do with rug-burns) :D :D

The premier was not very good and the second ep was marginally better. With all the hype it was getting I had hopes. How I Met Your Mother is a lot funnier.

I will be surprised if Earl makes it to February.
I love Jaime Pressly. She's strange because she's very sexy but ugly at the same time. There are tons of amazing nude pictures of her on the Web. She has an incredible body, but that gargoyle face of hers is pretty scarry. It makes her perfect for playing evil parts as in "Not Another Teen Movie" and "Poison Ivy: The New Seduction." Both were pretty bad movies, but she is always interesting to watch when she is on the screen. I wish they would give her more air time on "Earl," with more lines and fewer clothes. She looks much, much better when she is nude!

This is probably the only new network sit-com that I think is a success so far (well that and Everybody Hates Chris on UPN has some promise). It's a novel idea, well-executed, and just different enough to stand above the rest. And Jason Lee is perfect in this lead.
