What is QAM?
A: Type of TV tuner that can receive digital unencrypted
channels, including HD, over your cable.
Is there any reason to use the tuner in the SXRD if I'm already using a Comcast DVR HD box and get all the available channels?
A: Since you say you're getting ALL AVAILABLE CHANNELS with your box the answer is no since the QAM tuner only
gets unencrypted digital channels.
I was told by a guy at the local SonyStyle store that using external boxes for HD turning, etc took some of the processing off the TV, which was "good". Any truth to that?
A: Technically? Maybe. But its darn unlikely that your Comcast box is as good as the internal Sony tuner and connecting STUFF by cables almost always means loss somewhere. But then again, you won't get a lot of channels if you give back the box.
Is there a good online DIY resource for configuring the SXRD?
A: In a word, NO. You can get 75% of the way by buying/renting one of the DVD calibration discs. Chad is supposed to be great, but there are probably good calibration guys in Seattle. They've got more than one stop light in Seattle now, right?
