I did send sonylistens an email, and Amanda wrote me back and asked if there was a 60" model that I was interested in and she would see if it was available. I fired back the 60NX720. I am awaiting her response...

Evelyn, I'm about to send an email your way about my green blobbed KDS-R60XBR1.

Just wanted to let you all know, they were offering the 60NX720 for 1053 +tax since the 810s weren't available and I accepted my offer today.

I just received my 55NX720 which is the replacement for my 50XBR1. The 55NX720 is a very nice set. I loved the XBR1 but I will say, a set that is only about an inch thick is sweet. Pretty happy Sony customer here.

Love my 55NX810.

To all: Don't forget to go to the Sony website to get an extended warranty.

Anyone know about Sony helping with that situation? Where would I start? Calling standard Sony number when it broke just gave me the name of a local repair service.

Did you try blowing it out with some air? I know the fans can get clogged up with dust so it may not hurt to try. I had done that in the past with mine when I would get a fan error.

Search didn't turn it up...can someone tell me what 5 red blinks mean? Bad bulb or fan or ?

Thanks!

On R50/60XBR1, 5 Red Flashes = Lamp driver error; lamp driver faulty.

Lamp driver is what the SM calls the ballast. The self-analysis is not foolproof, and it could simply be the lamp or the connection between the ballast and the lamp. Check the connector on the lamp housing first and look into the hole and see if its mate looks okay. Inspect lamp and leads inside the lamp housing as well.

Thanks. I removed the bulb housing and the bulb has a crack across the face and lots of glass debris inside. Obviously the bulb is bad. Have ordered a new one. I guess I'll cross my fingers all will be well when I replace it.

That TV is normally over 2500.00 correct? Did they offer you cheaper options? Mine is shot and I would like it replaced with another 60" model with as little cost to me as possible.

I just wanted to note that I called on Monday and after pushing and being transferred to another dept at Sony, was offered the KDL60EX720 for $750. I tried to get the 60NX720, but was told that was not an option. It seems like they have different offers to different people for some reason. I have a KDS-R60XBR1 purchased in 2006.

hi guys,
i have a problem with the new replacement-fan I just got delivered.

I have a KDS 55A2000 and some pages in www mentioned the 883586011 as a replacement for my TV. Now, it arrives and I figured out this problem:

The KDS prolly needs the 883586031 which may be the same, but the pins have other colors.

The original fan pins are black, grey and blue,...
the new fan have red, black and yellow...

I have attached a picture as its actually connected, but I didnt powered the TV for now, I do not like to kill it finally!

At this point, I cant get closer to a solution. Hope you guys can help me.

Hey everyone!

I bought my 60" SXRD in Jan 2006. Last two years I noticed a slight greenish tint but nothing major. Well, I just created a slideshow and displayed pics on my Mac Book Pro side by side with my SXRD and forget it. My B&W images were all green!

I immediately researched on these forums to see what my options were. My tv was out of warranty and out of extended warranty as well. I spoke with Sony and they offered me a 55 inch 710 which is last years model for 250. I took the deal, then I read more and more on this forums and I started to get angry. Why settle for a 55" middle of the road TV which is LAST YEARS model? I explained the situation and my displeasure. She asked me what model was I looking for. I asked for the kdlEx720 for 850. Took that deal, then saw that TV next to the NX720. I then asked for that TV, which I got for 1050. I thought it was a slam dunk. Order approved and TV should arrive in three weeks! I am very excited, although now I need a twin HDMI output BD player since my receiver is a HDMI 1.3a receiver. No big deal, still pretty amped.

Has anyone had any problems with replacement lamps. I purchased a replacement lamp for my 60" xbr1 in March, 2011 from Advanced Lamps. Yesterday, we heard a pop and the screen went black. I pulled the lamp housing and the bulb had exploded. Only 3 months and it goes out. It has a 120 day warranty and I have emailed Advanced Lamps about a replacement but does anyone have a better route for replacement lamps or should I buy one directly from Sony.
Thanks
Kevin

It looks to me like Advanced Lamps sells both knock-off Chinese lamps as well as OEM Sony lamps for more. Some vendors do this. Watch for weasel-words like OEM-equivalent, which is a matter of opinion.

The knock-off Chinese lamps will last around three months, with luck. There's just no economy there. Buy a real Sony lamp, (which is probably made by Philips), or a Philips lamp, or an Osram lamp, and it will last as long as the original.

A quality OEM lamp cannot be bought for $72.

'OEM equivalent' does not mean 'OEM'.

Thanks Chuck,

I made the mistake of buying the knock off from Advanced Lamps. I won't do it again. The knock off was really bright while it worked. I kept my original and put it back in the tv and it still works, isn't quite as bright, but hopefully once I get a new genuine lamp it will be brighter than my old one.

I made the same mistake with my SXRD. Went the cheap route and the first one lasted less than 2 hrs before it popped but the place I bought the replacement lamp from has, so far, a great return policy because they offered to either refund my money or replace it, again, with another new lamp. I figure their 1 yr warranty will be just about right considering these aftermarket lamps don't last more than a few months. I also would like to thank this site and everyone on it because without this site I would never have known anything about Sony's replacement program for affected SXRD's and I am now the proud owner of a new 55in. NX810. I read all the reviews on the 810 and they were all pretty spot on. The picture quality is OUTSTANDING but the speakers seriously SUCK. Nothing a new Yam. A2000 and some NHT's didn't fix.

Thanks again, to this site, all it's fine members and even Sony.

Well got my NX720 within 4 days of my claim being accepted. Big Kudos to Sony!! This set is just stunning. The contrast is crazy, the blacks are inky black. I could not be happier!

Great deal! What size did you get and do they take the old one away?

They don't take the old one away. It is yours to keep.

I think I'm about to bite on this.

I have a kds-60xbr1, that had the optical block replaced twice. I'm not sure if I can find the receipt for those.

A few questions, I have receipts for some repairs that were recently done on the tv, fan, powersupply, and the lamp. Would they credit that towards the new purchase? None of them fixed the problem of course.

What's the likelihood of getting my hands on a 55" or more of the newer tvs. Maybe one with local dimming. I've been spoiled by inky blacks, before they turned greenish yellow.

The printed picture of the flaw in the TV , what quality and size does it need to be?

I figure I have spent 3800 on the initial purchase and close to 1500 in repairs over the years. I'm not spending any more money to fix the TV.

Thanks a bunch.

Quick question, anybody know the value and where to sell a dead KDSR50-XBR1 (It has either a lamp driver or fan problem) and I'm done trying to get it fixed? I have it sitting on a shelf in the garage and just bought a cheap 42 LED to replace it for now.
I took it it in to have the fans looked at they say they cleaned and fixed them replaced the lamp for 279, fix lasted < 3 months. I'm not sure I want to invest any more in this TV. Bought in late 2005 and tired of fighting with Sony, had the OB replaced in '08 and it seems to still be okay for now.

You could part it out. You may make a couple hundred that way. Sell the parts on eBay.

Hey guys. What does a constantly flashing red light mean?

Are you getting a picture on your screen? My R60XBR1 did that I think when my projector bulb finally died.
My bulb in my R60XBR1 finally went out recently on May 21st. I was curious how long bulbs lasted for others? This was the original bulb that was in the set when I got it on October 11, 2005, so the original lamp lasted around 5 years 7 months and 10 days. I already had a replacement lamp ready to go as I ordered one when a friend of mines bulb died on his R60XBR1 in April 2010 (and he got his set after I did). I didn't buy a genuine Sony replacement bulb so I will be curious how long it lasts.

Does anyone have a source for an original Sony replacement lamp (which are made by Phillips I believe)?

Depends on the pattern/sequence. For example: 4 means fan error.
