"Blinking codes are never good news:

4 times, Diagnosis: Vertical deflection stopped. Possible causes: +- 15V is not supplied. (D board), IC8003 is faulty. (A board) Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby state after horizontal raster, Vertical deflection pulse is stopped, Power line is shorted or power supply is stopped."

Hope this helps and good luck.

Alright here's the deli-ma!. I already replaced this TV but my Sony is in mint condition and I really hate to toss it out if it's just some cheap board but I certainly don't want to throw parts at it and find out the hard way that it was a $900 fix. So what I've got so far is.

It could be the ASU/DSU Board and before you run out and buy one off ebay you have to make sure it's the right Series to match your Optical block. Not sure about that.

I replaced the big fan in the back with a 120mm PC Fan and wired it in. Could there be the slightest issue that for some reason it needs the actual original OEM SOny Fan in there to work right? Or is a fan a fan and as long as it's spinning up then that's resolved and it has to be something else? Which brings me back to the DSU/ASU.

My Sony does have the newer Optical block. Maybe I can part this TV out.. Its just so hard for me to give up on it and throw it in the dumpster.

Seems the internet is FULL of the 4 red blinks symptoms and everyone of them resolved it simply by cleaning the fans.

Question for you guys that got your tv replaced. Did they ask you to email a picture or mail it in? They asked me to mail mine in with my sticker... Honestly they probably don't even look at the picture do they..

They want a hard copy. I sent it, 1st class receipt request.

Ya I get that. But is the only reason for paperwork? I mean someone can easily tamper with a picture digitally, print it off, and send it in.

Why don't YOU ask them? I had no interest for their reason and/or their internal procedures!

Could you please stop trolling. While I appreciate the thread bump i'm more interested in a response than a debate.
deepbreath. Because while I found it funny at the time they would ask that, I doubted Rocky from Manilla really knew and didn't want to have to wait. I also figured that someone on here might have some insight. There is just no possible way they really use the picture for more than documentation in case you try to sue in the future.

Look skinner, I gave you a short and truthful answer. There was no reason for you to interrogate me as to why I did or didn't do whatever you wanted me to do...OK? I didn't care back then, June of last year and could care less now why their procedures would require a hard copy!

NO NEED TO ANSWER ME!

That'a kinda harsh. He gave you an answer. I'll give you another....... the reason they want a photo WITH THE EVENT NUMBER ATTACHED TO THE TV is to avoid attempted fraud. Say someone has an XBR and has heard about the "program". It would be real easy for them to simply copy someone else's problem photo posted over on the I have a defective Sony TV facebook page. The photo also serves as a buffer to any attempted future lawsuit as they now have your stuff on file. You still get to keep the defective TV so there shouldn't be any problem here.

As the saying goes "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". Sony is by no means obligated to do these exchanges as the statute of limitations on the lawsuit ran out quite some time ago. Just do as they ask and all will be fine!

He's not "trolling" but perhaps you are. You asked a question, got a legitimate answer but then you gave a sarcastic response with an eye-roll. If you really don't want to debate the matter then why don't you just provide what they ask, get your new TV and enjoy it? Or, you could fight the process and probably get nothing.

I can't find where I read it, but I'm sure it was in this thread. I've followed it since I bought my 60" SXRD when they first came to market. I distinctly remember someone posting that a PC fan won't work...the feedback isn't right and the board doesn't see the right RPM's.

Good Luck,

Good Luck,

I may not be the only one, but i posted as much, yes. You have to use the exact fan from sony. The return voltage is checked by the board, any -/+ v and the board assumes no fan. Sorry for the bad news

Awesome thanks guys!. That's probably the only issue then!. I'll order the correct fan. All other fans are working great!.

THanks!

Definitely do that before you go messing with the boards. I had a similar issue where all my visible fans were working but still had the 4 blinking lights. I didn't want to tear the whole TV apart to check the OB fan so I figured I would just try replacing the big fan in the back since it was cheap and very easy to do. I was going on the theory that while it was physically working (I could see it spinning when TV powered on), perhaps it wasn't working to the proper specs (speed, voltage, etc.) and that was causing the error which is also why I believe you can't use a PC fan. Anyway, I replaced it and the TV has been working normal ever since which was about 2 months ago.

That is awesome news!. I suspect mine might be a similar situation, At least I hope so. I have always taken very good care of this TV. Periodically would pull it away from the wall and vacuum all visible areas to keep Dust to a minimum. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can save it with a simple fan replacement.

I'll update once I get the new one installed!.

Thanks again!

Just curious where did you end up buying the fan from?

Post your issue there, but I would ask for a replacement, just remember to ask for a manager who takes care of the replacement program as the first people you talk to will say this is the only deal your getting and there wrong. You should get at least a higher end model from them and don't settle for some thing cheap they through at you.

I have a XBR2, after 6 good years, my greenish haze just started. You can have it rebuilt but TVs are so inexpensive now I am tempted to sell my old unit for Parts. But I think I can get another 3 years use out of it.

After getting the standard replacement offers for the 60XBR1 KDL60EX720 for $1075 and KDL55EX500 for $200. I asked for the 55HX929. I took their offer of $1365 for the 55HX929......

This goes back to the inconsistency of their offers. I was told the 55HX929 wasn't available yet and it might now have been. But the standard offers were horrible in comparison. The NX is a much better TV that the EX line, and the HX line is even better and more in the XBR ball park, but I didn't want to go back 5" in size as my room is pretty big. On top of it the XBR1/XBR2 look huge because of the extended speakers.

Nice Deal...

My rep was Mike Puma. You gotta ask the Sony Listens people to get what you want. Don't call the # they give you and ask them. You gotta ask your Sony Rep directly. Then after you get the offer in an e-mail. You call the # they give you....

Basically got offered the 60NX720 as the 55" and 65"929 were not in stock yet when I called. Regardless they should be replacing TV's with comparable in price as the XBR1 and XBR2 back when they were available were between $3000-$6000. So far very inconsistent when it comes to type of set you have and what is offered. Frankly I am just glad they are doing it.

My 60" XBR1 has started to turn off after watching it for a few minutes. I turn the set off,and then turn it back on, few minutes later, the set turns off. Has anyone else had this happen?

When a set goes green with this issue does it ever go back to normal or does it stay green forever?

Are you getting the 4x blinking red lights when this happens? If so, then the fan needs to be replaced (a stop-gap is to use an air can to try to dislodge the fan(s) for a bit).
