Do they have any larger hard drives for the DVRs? I have a friend down there with a cisco box that seems to be only 120GB.

Clinton's letter only says "More HD Channels".

I don't know what to make of that difference. I hope Clinton will end up with the same lineup that the rest of the state has. But they don't normally announce channel additions until a month before they are added. So I guess time will tell.

Sounds like you guys aren't at the point of killing off analog yet, so you will get like 30-50 more, and then when they kill analog, you get to the 100+ point.

Comcast should have regionalized their systems with SHE's like Verizon uses years ago, they would have been so much better off for the HD-ization of their systems than having 14 different systems in one little state alone.

I can provide an update on Clinton Comcast: Notice came in yesterday's mail: April 10 - 8 channels to require digital TV, STB or adapter. April 24, 23 new HD Channels to be added. It also states QAM's will be able to receive Limited Basic Ch. 2-22, 89-96, 99, 161, 171, 177, 185, 190, 242-254, 280, 290-291 and 624 will be tunable without a digital device. 23 + 17 (I think we get now) gets us up to 40, not in the big leagues, but Clinton was one of the old legacy systems and aparrently needed and probably still needs a lot of infra work. At least we are moving and in the right direction. Still troubling to pay the same as others who get a lot more HD.

Here in Durham...

23 HD channels being added on April 24.
26 HD channels being added on May 30.

It would seem Comcast is actually doing something, and unicorns were not required. Amazing! o.o

Here's to hoping the premium movie channels get added to the list this summer.

One thing that throws me off though. These channels are all in the 1000s. The SA8300HD box only goes up to 999 -.- >.> A software update going to fix that?

Yeah. this is the first I heard of this. Is Clinton not the lamest Comcast Cable system. Damn talk about legacy. We are the worst.

Cant wait for the 24th

I think Groton has Clinton beat for the worst. 8 analogs to 24 HD's is pretty direct, no more free bandwidth there.

What I really want to know is why they haven't combined the systems in a given market or even region to run off of one SHE like Verizon did. They way, and upgrade has to be done once, not 15 times.

Something did. I have the same box and it went to 999 and after the change over it went into the 1000s.

Yes, I believe we are the worst in the state. I live in Ledyard, part of the Ledyard, Mystic, Groton and New London area... We have 8 HD channels besidses the locals (and more than 1/2 is premium like HBO,showtime, etc)

Do we get an award for that besides having to pay the same amount as everyone else but, get a ton less HD channels ?

You should get free cable for that. I accepted a job in Groton/New London starting in June, and if I end up moving to Groton (my preference, but who knows what will come about), one of my criteria for housing is ability to install a DirecTV dish. The new 5-tuner media center with WHDVR is really cool.

There is a new letter posted at the DPUC site with some news regarding the Groton system. Here's a link. Click on the Comcast/Groton document from 4/13.

Thanks for that...

Incase you dont want to read it...

Groton will be going to all digital by August 14, 2012, they will start moving people over around April 17, 2012 by giving boxes to limited basic users.

A bunch of channels being moved from Digital Starter to the Expanded Basic but, No New channels or NO new HD channels.

I guess it's progress forward for the area but, Dishnetwork gives me 50X the HD channels as we get this area with Comcast. I'll stick with dish for now.

Comcast truly sucks in this area...
BiggAW - If you end up in Groton you can check into "Thames Valley Cable" it's from Groton Utilities and offers a more competitive package (both # HD channels and I believe price).

I figured out how to get my old tivo to work. Comcast gives you 2 digital adapters that change the digitial to analog. my tivo is back...yahoo....

FYI - Comcast gives 2 of these free to any customer.

That's good. That means they are going to 100HD's and 100mbps, it's just a matter of when they get them all on.

I looked at them, and their lineup sucks. Comcast is going to improve, so they may be an option, and due to their bundling, cheaper, and DirecTV is another option. I'd want Comcast for internet, as TVC doesn't have the 20+mbps package with Powerboost like Comcast has.

The upside and downside to Comcast is that you basically have to build your own DVR to get a decent one, but that could be a big upside too, since it's fun to build PCs, and it's a lot more customizable than what DirecTV has. Combined with XBOXes and Ceton extenders, that could save a lot, since there's no mirroring fees like with DirecTV's system.
It also depends on what town I end up in. Groton's my favorite, but who knows what's going to be available, where, for what price, and living with whom.

Yeah, a lot of those are the 2008 batch that DirecTV pioneered in HD with on 119W, and then moved them to 99C/103C later.

Yea, those are about the channels we should of seen 5+ years ago. Groton does not even get the Discovery channel in HD and just will. Seriously....

What a joke. To think people in this area pay the same amount as users in towns that get 100 HD channels....

Rip off ?

Part of the problem is that they pay the same carriage fees for HD and SD, so they have to charge almost as much, even if their system is decrepit. They should have gone to an SHE-based system like 5+ years ago.

I feel sorry for you guys in a way most of those have been on the Time Warner Cable system in my area that uses motorola boxes with iGuide and SDV with iGuide A28 78.44 soon to be 79.41 (79.41 (R29) is a new code base meant to support StartOver/Lookback on TWC systems) since 2010 when we went SDV. My cable system is 870MHz with 24 QAMs dedicated to SDV and I currently have 135 HD channels. I think eventually Comcast is going to have to upgrade the 600MHz-650MHz systems in CT to 1GHz or go SDV to get you guys everything that there is an agreement for. I am in a former Comcast area which is TWC North Texas.

All the systems are going to 860 with triple-channeled HD's and no analog. Comcast doesn't use SDV. All the systems in the state are moving that way, but a few, like Clinton and Groton, haven't made it there yet.

Madison (Branford system) just got upgraded to 12mbps from 8mbps in the last few days. Which actually amounts to a bump from 8.8mbps to 13.2mbps since they overprovision 10%. As much as I hate Comcast for being slow to upgrade, they deliver the speed they promise, and that speed is rock solid (at least when the cable doesn't go out).
