It has alot to do with who owned the system prior to Comcast and any deal that Comcast had to make to get a local franchise agreement approved upon takeover. I noticed in many of Comcast's current agreements that they had to take 550mhz systems to at least 750mhz in some cases and others only to 650mhz. I think the system that I am on had to be taken to 750mhz from 550mhz by September 2004 or something like that for example.

I don't know what makes New Haven special other than luck of the draw.

I'm sure it sucks right now not getting the new channels that Comcast has added and have no idea what their plans are for upgrading systems. I know I'd be very frustrated reading about systems within a hour of me getting channels that I couldn't.

TNT HD was just added to my system!!!! Holy crap!!! 3 HD channels in one week and 5 this year. WOO HOO!!!

Sorry for those on systems with less capcity, I'm just shocked and had no idea it was coming.

Firstly thanks for running this thread, it was extremely helpful to me as a first time HDTV owner with Comcast in Danbury, CT. In the last few days I have gotten MTVHD on channel 209 and just today TNTHD on channel 204. Just wanted to let you know of the developments, thanks again for the great thread. Second, do any of you guys know why all Red Sox games are blacked out on either INHD or INHD2 in my area? I get all of the Yankees games on INHD2, but the Red Sox games do not come in. Thanks for the info.

Another confirmation of TNT HD on the Plainville system. All these additions are great - I wonder what is causing them? Maybe they were waiting for a necessary backend change or something?

For folks in the areas that aren't getting these new channels: Write your local papers, if you have one. If anyone could get an actual answer out of Comcast, it should be a news organization.

In a piece of odd news, a friend of mine on the Planville system claims Comcast came out to his house with a Scientific Atlanta box today. This is odd, since we are generally Motorola country out here. I haven't seen it for myself yet though.

I'm getting TNT-HD on Channel 204 in West Hartford as well. Thank goodness for this forum. Otherwise I would never know what HD channels I get. Comcast sure as hell doesn't let us in on the secret.

Now if only they'd add National Geographic HD.

They needed some equipment to break out the lineups between the 650mhz and 750mhz systems. I keep forgetting to look to see what frequencies the new channels are on.

That is odd news, let us know if it is an SA box that your friend got when you've had a chance to confirm it yourself.

I wonder if enough people threaten to cancel service if they'll get their buts in gear and get systems up to speed that aren't. Once again, nothing new in Middletown and yet still paying the same. As much as I hate to say it, this has me contemplating Dish or DirecTV.....

I understand where you're coming from because I've been there, but never all that close to switching because Comcast is the only provider that could offer all locals in HD and Red Sox in HD. It all depends on what is important to you.

A couple of factors that make me believe that Comcast can't really wait all that much longer before upgrading the systems that are lagging behind.

1. ATT UVerse/Project Lightspeed is coming within the next year or so.
2. The rate of HDTV sets sold is rapidly increasing.

Do you know if your system has full ADS yet?

The unfortunate truth though is that TNT-HD... for lack of a better word... sucks. Now that basketball is off the air there really is no reason to watch unless you like a LOT of upconverts.

I know it's popular to bash TNT-HD, but come on. Any new HD channel is a plus and the stuff they show that is true HD looks great. Ok, so they have some stretched SD, don't show movies in OAR and a lot of their movies are upconverts. I for one will take the upconverts at 16x9 over stretched SD on the regular TNT and enjoy the stuff they show in HD if I'm so inclined to watch. Do I wish they showed everything in true HD? Yes, of course. I also wished that it could have been added in time for the start of the NBA Playoffs, but unfortunately it wasn't.

What would you rather have, a channel with some variety or a brand new channel like NGCHD that runs a 5-hour loop of HD programming that would get old after a day or two (assuming HDNets are out of the question)?

I can't believe it! A little less to complain about with the Groton system - we have NESN HD on 200 now! At least now I won't have to worry about those filthy Yankees being on when I want to watch my Sox, but I'd still like to see some of the other channels like ESPN2 and Universal HD (so I can see Galactica in HD)...

I'm excited to have NESN full-time though!!!

The Middletown system also now has NESN-HD on channel 200. Unencrypted too (but we shall see how long that lasts). I assume that channel 207 is still INHD2 (online guide says so). I wonder if 207 will just go black when the station starts looping (to regain the lost bandwidth taken by NESN-HD) or if we may finally get TNT-HD or ESPN2-HD in that slot. No sign of any digital simulcast yet, but I was told back in January by a local service tech that they may not meet their July deadline.

That's great that the rest of CT is now getting NESN HD 24/7.

What do you mean by INHD2 looping? I've read the rumors about it going dark in July, but haven't been able to confirm anything. Do you have info?

Yep, came home today and saw NESN HD on channel 200 for the Middletown system. Still no WTXX, TNT, etc. At least we might be making progress!

NESN-HD is on cable channel 200 for New Britain as well. I get 12-1, a.k.a. "20-1" of WTXX-DT with my Sanyo TV's QAM tuner. I can only get 12-2, a.k.a. "20-2" (The Tube) with my indoor antenna. Comcast isn't carrying that yet.

I know that there was one report a few weeks ago claiming that INHD2 would not be going completely dark until December, but would be looping the same programming over and over starting in July for those providers who cannot secure an alternative channel quickly. I am not sure if that is still the case. I can imagine that Comcast in this area would stick with a looping INHD2 until the Yankees season was over, but I would anticipate that YES-HD broadcasts would simply slide to INHD1 very shortly.

I was watching that thread but must have missed the details about the looping and December timeframe. Thanks for the info.

Maybe that opens a slot for NFL HD full time.

Anyone have a contact to get a firewire box for my D-VHS?

Received 6200 today with inactive firewire after specific request for firewire box on install. Installer went back to office and they still wouldn't give one out. Tech support is of no help. Local office clueless as to what I need. West Hartford area Comcast system.

Looks like our friends at Comcast have been busy with more than just adding HD channels. They've been adding bandwidth as well. The areas that just got ESPN2 HD and MHD seem to have been upgraded to at least 860Mhz.

Thanks to pplchamp for the heads up on this development and the attached document. I'll add systems to the document heading as they're verified. I would think if they've upgraded our systems that those lagging behind have to be getting worked on as well.

Anyone from systems outside of Hartford, Avon and Plainville please check the "current channel status" on the diagnostic screen for the following channels: 103 and 129. They should be 759Mhz and 765Mhz respectively. To check the current channel status, tune in the channel, power off and press the "select" button on the remote within a couple of seconds after turning off the box. Scroll down to "CURRENT CHANNEL STATUS" and press "select". You want the "Inband Frequency".

Thanks for checking, I think it'll be a while before bandwidth is added for those areas that didn't get ESPN2 HD and MHD. Probably more work and money involved to get those areas up to par with the rest of CT.
