Anyway, glad you like your plasma. Wish I had room for one; that is why I went the LCD route. Well, that and cost. :)
When it comes to Sony's car audio, i've had plenty of friends and plenty of repairers bitch and moan about how bad their gear is. My sister purchased one of the Sony S1's digi cams, 5mp cost around $800 AUS and it was a steaming pile of crap. Their Plasma's i've seen have been mediocre, their DV cameras have those annoying fiddly touch screens, their gear is overpriced, their home theatre in a box systems are overpriced and are normally trounced by LG systems costing half (i've demoed this to many disbelieving customers) Memory stick is an annoying format that I wish would go away, the PS2 was a major letdown, their projectors are overpriced with overpriced globes and so-so performance. Then again im looking at Sony gear thats available to the Australian market.
However yes their 32" HD crt's are stunning and yes their Grand Wega RPTV's are beautiful.
I don't hate Sony, I just think Sony is way overrated, I find it irrating having to deal with customers who think Sony is the best and there is no better. I remember one guy comes in, wants a sony system as he said "Sony is the best!" I go "No mate, there's much else far better than Sony." He looks at me shocked and responds in a most irrated tone "What's better than Sony?" I returned with "Onkyo, Denon, Sherwood Newcastle, Yamaha" other than Yamaha he didn't know a single other brand. :D Thats ignorance for you.
I should say that in the lounge room there is an LG 42" with integrated HD tuner, which is a great little unit, I currently have an Epson projector in my personal area, but the room is just a tad too small so I'm purchasing a Philips 42PF9966. Working in retail part-time lets me get my hands on this gear at cost price, and sometimes even off the manufacturers for less than what the stores pay :)
A Benq 5120 would only cost me $950AUD direct.
