(I hate stretching SD content so I watch it pillarboxed.)

Has anybody else had this happen to their SXRD? The set is 13 months old, so I'm glad I have the extended warranty.

The line is most noticeable when I go to MemoryStick mode as it has a grey background. I first noticed it when firing up the Xbox360. You can't see it on dark content, but when the screen is white or light grey, it's in your face.

Yes, my set recently started showing the exact same thing in the same place as you described. It tends to lessen the longer the set is on (hours). Sometimes it's not there but then most times has a very slight green tinge in the upper right corner...then, two days out of seven, nothing abnormal !

Apparently the OB will need replacing, but I am going to wait awhile for that, I do have the EW, like most of us do in this and the owners forum.

I purchased this set back in late NOV. 2005 ( NOV. build date)

CC should have a record of your warranty in their computer.

Thanks - can you believe they didn't show up!! I'm so ticked off right now but will remain calm to try and get the best service possible.

Had my ob replaced because of the yellow/green line and although it did fix the problem, now I have the blotchies that I've seen others complaining about. My picture was perfect before and I didn't have this problem at all with the old ob. Now every time there's a darker scene I get really bad blue blotches and sometimes the black bars on the sides of a 4:3 picture have a lot of blue noise running around in them. Going to call again.

I did a search with this thread but I haven't turned anything up. Could someone give me full instructions on how to enter the service menu, and perform a full system reset? I'm assuming this will return everything including service menu settings, main picture settings, and every other customization to the Sony defaults? Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is a way to reset the service menu to the factory defaults.

keohi hdtv site has a good article on how to do this - sorry, can't paste URL

I think you can just unplug the tv for a while but I'm not sure. I did see some instructions somewhere about resetting to defaults.
one needs to log all settings before changing...Then don't write it till You know Your in the right place doing the right setting...

You can do a slight convergence. It's one of the settings in the panel section of the service menu.

I haven't read this thread for a while, but I just found this and thought it might be ok to post even if it's a repeat:

Excellent post. Thanks for the heads up. I wonder if they will replace the optical block with an updated version of with the same unit?

NelsonM: Did Sony fix your problem??
I was outside of my original warranty and mine was fixed. The technician mentioned the extended period through 2008 when he fixed mine. I went through the dealer I used to purchase the TV, not Sony. The technician said he's done 6 or 7 dozen of these in my area.

Of course, I wonder what I will do after that, but for now the TV looks fine again.

PK: I have a little green on warmup is that normal or did you have a bigger problem? The new extended warranty that Sony offers makes me think that there is a problem that they identified. I wonder if I should persue an upgrade. However, the green goes away after 10 minutes so I may end up with a set that has larger issues.

The green at warmup is normal. Sony actually has a CYA statement that it could take as long as 30 mins to warm up.

My problem was I had a vertical line down the right side, just outside the 4:3 area. You could easily see it with any HD signal or on the memory stick screen.

Third 50" replaced yesterday (refurb only per Sony and build of refurb is Nov2005 which is earlier than the 2 it replaced) and gee - guess what - pink across top!

Set 2 developed the yellow stripe down right side (along with green and pink issues) - replacement of OB corrected that but gave much bigger pink areas - OB2 was then installed with another pink - which then prompted the refurb replacement mentioned above.

Yeah: I better be happy that I have a great working set and let it be. I paid 3800 for my set when it was new and have not regretted it one day. I was one of the first 10 people to have one on this site.

I too am extremely happy that I have had (KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK) no permanent problems with my 60-inch FEB06 build. I got mine for $3750 from ShopSunshine.com last March. It has absolutely fantastic picture viewing DVDs, but not so great with SD tv, as expected. I have noticed a green blob at start-up, especially if it's a grey start-up screen such as my Mac mini attached to HDMI input 6, but it fades quickly. I've yet to see any yellows or pinks, and hope I won't ever... but if I do, it'd better be before that extended warranty expires

60" Nov 2005 build here, and I have no issues. I see the green 'haze' on startup with a black or grey screen, but only notice it for about 30 seconds. All other tests show none of the issues mentioned here, the set is great. If my OB does have issues, I hope they start by Oct 08 as I didn't get the ext warranty (against my better judgment).

I am getting dark greenish blotches on the black in the screen...its not on every channel...but on the dark black scenes i see a trail...can somebody tell me if they get that also?

I have an Oct. '05 build 50", purchased that same month, and have had no problems until last week. A yellow stripe suddenly appeared on the right side of the screen. Fortunately I bought, however reluctantly, a Sears extended warranty. The service tech assigned to the problem called to tell me he didn't need to come out and check it, he knew what it was and he was ordering a new OB, no hassle. This tv has been terrific to this point, and I have fingers crossed that things will be back to normal when the new OB is installed. I hope Sony has upgraded the OB to address this issue. Anybody know? As I've already had a lamp replaced under the warranty, I'm close to breaking at least even on the deal.

Note that Sony has increased their warrantee on the xbr1 optical block until 2008 regardless of purchase date...

Brent, I haven't been here for a while and am guilty of now going back far enough to read previous comments, but you answered my question regarding the OB upgrade. I'll try your settings once it's in. Thanks.

Steve, I knew Sony had extended their warranty on the OB but, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think it includes sending someone to your house to install the new part. Installing a replacement lamp was a piece of cake but I don't know about a new OB. Based on my ineptitude in this area, I suspect I could screw it up big time.

Parts and labor:

"As part of the Sony commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that it is extending the limited warranty (parts and labor), in the United States, on the optical block of KDS-R50XBR1 and KDS-R60XBR1 model SXRD Televisions until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date."

I assume that means on-site service as well since that was what the original factory warranty covered.

"Parts and labor" doesn't necessarily mean they'll do it in your home, but maybe they will. I was under the impression, perhaps wrong, that the Sony warranty does not include that, which is why I went with the Sears extended warranty. My OB just arrived as I was typing this, and it is a big box and I don't have to open it to know this is beyond my lame expertise. Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge Sony guy for several decades and have serously considered getting the 70" SXRD. This hiccup is a non issue in that regard, though annoying. If I was going to buy a new tv tomorrow, chances are it would be a Sony.

I've been lurker here for few years- also have 60XS955 which i've had absolutely no issues with for over 2 1/2 yrs. Just rpelaced bulp at 6300 hrs was getting dimmer- looks like new now.

I've a 9/05 build 50XBR1 bought 12/05- bought sony 5 yr warranty on line for $290 - no green/yellow issues- I had black/dark scene pixalation or blotchy dark areas that jumped around

Sony Hawaii replaced optical block in Dec 06 (took out part # A1143243A replaced with part # A1148155A)- worked fine for 3 months then started doing same thing-

blacks/dark very noisy & see pixels moving around- I tried the all fixed for this noted on this site for blacks but that did nothing- Called Sony Hawaii again, 4/ 07 they replaced ASU/DSU board (part # A1152715A) and Q box assembly (# A1152-713A)- no difference- then replaced optical block again with part (# A1148-155A)- . Picture back to normal and wonderful.

Asked why they didn't use later production block # with larger lens- said if they did with my serial # TV, the picture would be off center- Didn't argue-. Hoping this reapir will last - If not i've got Ext warranty.
