What type of HDTV Technology do you mostly use for HDTV?

Hi Everyone,

This information will help us develop content for future shows. We'll let the poll run for a week or so and talk about the results on the AVS Radio podcast.

arad- I actually have two technologies in my HT room. I have the main PJ as a DLP and a backup that is a 720P LCD PJ. The latter I sometimes take on trips as it is self contained while the DLP is a two box PJ (Dwin TV3e). I voted for DLP.
In the Kitchen I have a small screen HDTV LCD flat panel.

I have Front Projection LCD.... Your poll only allowed for 2 kinds of LCD, while there are three (Direct view, FP, RP).

I voted "tube" mainly because I have a CRT tube HDTV, CRT "tube" HD front projector, "Tube" analog HD monitor and CRT HD RPTV.

Hi...

I would have to say to vote for the display type you use HDTV most on for it was not set up as a multi selection poll.

I also removed LCD RP and move the votes into the LCD results. You should select the type of device.

I have also made it so ANYONE can vote, AVS Members or Non-Members.

Hope Ara does not mind.

I Voted DLP, but I have 4 HD TV's. 1 65" CRT, 2 Direct View LCD (26" and 30"), and a 46" Samsung DLP.

I voted for tube, only because my HDTV viewing is centered around the shows on TV, and TVs are prevalant around the household. However, my interests lie in the HT aspects, for watching movies.

I would like to see the show spend some more time on the HT piece. Sharing of ideas, equipment, interviews with installers, getting the most bang for the buck, don't do's, etc. Also, thrity minutes seems short. I enjoy the show and it seems to fly by! Thanks David!

What was the reasoning for combining LCD and LCD RP? Although they both use LCD panels, I see them as different technologies or at least different market segments. I guess the same goes for CRT and CRT RP, in my opnion.

Mitch, you are correct. I should have made the LCD choices be LCD Chip (Front & Rear projection) and LCD Flat Panel. Could not have LCD RP without LCD Front Projection. Same for DLP.

Front projection, 16:9 LCD (Sony WV10HT), with 120" wide 16:9 screen, since year 2000,
receiving HDTV local and satellite since year 2000.

Like the radio show.

I use my MT700 DLP as my primary HT PJ (106", 16:9 screen), but its got a dead lamp right now. I bought a Mitsubishi HC3 LCD as my backup PJ (got it real cheap on a sale) and it does a credible job for TV watching with some room light (nice colors, but its CR stinks anyway so room lighting is not a problem).

:) I am guessing it is a CRT Rear Projector, so that would go under CRT. :)

When I watch HDTV channels, usually they have been downconverted to S-video by the STB, then recorded on Tivo, then RF-modulated as an NTSC channel, and then displayed on a 31" direct-view CRT. So I chose "Tube (CRT)". I rarely watch them any other way.

I have two - plasma for family room and LCD direct view for master bedroom. Now if I win a 42" Hitachi Plasma TV in an HH Gregg drawing, it will go in the bedroom :) and the 32" LCD will go in another room.

I had to vote "tube" too but a 65" rear projector is not really what I would say is a CRT? Still one great HD picture!

Well I don't actually own any SDTV's anymore. I have 2 LCD HDTV's (17" Dell and 23" Panasonic) as well as my 52" DLP Mitsubishi 625.

For HD displays my main HT display is a RP-LCD, but I also have a Plasma, and a Panel LCD.

Very happy with my Pioneer 64" CRT Rear Projection HDTV even after evaluating/viewing all the other technologies out there. I would love to listen to a future show which evaluates CRT HD quality compared to that of other HD technologies and maybe a review of a couple models since they seem to be in the shadow these days (even though it seems that quite a few of us own them).

Happily using direct-view CRT ("tube") for now, but eagerly awaiting SED. Eventually, when I can afford a bigger house, I'd like to have a dedicated home theater room with front projection (probably CRT.)

Living Room: Sony 34XBR960, 8ft viewing distance
Bedroom: Currently Samsung 26", but upgrading this weekend to Sony 30XS955
