Verizon FiOS HDTV - Page 370

Cartoon Network HD (now that the majority of Adult Swim is shown in real HD) and BBC-A HD are tops on my list of wants right now. Beyond that I'm pretty apathetic.

It's KILLING ME that I can't watch the current new season of Venture Bros in HD though.

These are the channels I had better receive sometime soon next year: BBC America HD, MSNBC HD, History International HD, Investigation Discovery HD, Crime and Investigation HD, CBS College Sports, TCM HD (when a majority of movies are shown in true HD and in their OAR), HLN HD (once all of the news programs are in HD, and Cartoon Network HD. I think you'll agree with me that they're all legit channels, depending on your taste.

I called the tech and he changed the main spiltter into my home but still no use. I have a 42 1080p Panasonic plasma that looks gorgeous on a blu-ray source, so i know its not my tv. Why does FiOS exhibit such poor HD pq? Any suggestions?

I experienced the same when I switched from comcast to verizon. it was disappointing to say the least.

I had techs come out and check it out. They had no clue what i was talking about, he said "macro what? I've never heard of that before". But he checked all signals, replaced all the cable in the house because he didn't know what to do. None of it helped. It can been seen in every single movie, without exception. to varying degrees of coarse.

does verizon have a yule log like comcast?
Jason and Rythm-

What channels are you seeing macroblocking on? Are you standing right in front of your 60 inch TV?

If so, of course you're going to see macroblocking no matter what provider you have. No one is perfect...

However, if you're seeing it on all channels - there could be a problem at your VSO (Central Office). There are HD channels on FIOS that are better than others, so let me know which ones specifically are the worst for you.

That's a decent list, but hardly something to be so angry about!

Even better, just get a Vermont Castings wood-burning stove and connect it up to yer fireplace. I have two of them, each in the same rooms as my Samsung plasmas. Hence I get the yule log effect (for like FIVE MONTHS!) and get to watch regular programming or a movie at the same time...

Friend's DVR box reset last night and when it reset it deleted all saved programming. Anyone ever had that happen?
you're comparing a Blu-Ray(1080p and should have zero macro-blocking) to television(1080i or 720p) and has macroblocking from the broadcasts itself, no matter who the provider?

Ehhh....I heard the Yule Log HD channel doesn't even show real HD content. They have an old SD feed that's stretched to 16:9, and it isn't even DD5.1!

No DD15. on Yule Log HD?!?!?!?!

I'll pass. If it doesn't sound like the entire room is engulfed in flames, what's the point?

I hear the fire engine sirens blaring from here...but of course, I'm using PLIIx!!

Which puts out more heat, the wood-burner or the plasma?

That's an excellent question, actually.
The 58 inch Samsung warms the house nicely through about Halloween or so.
But once it gets below freezing most nights, the Defiant with a good load of oak or maple carries the load quite well...

But is that wood burner properly calibrated???

I cant say that one ch. is worse than another. I sit 5-6 ft from my 46" plasma.

so no HD yule log for verizon I might actually miss it.

Yeah... I'm sure you'll get it on one of those "WB" type channels, or whatever they call that. Also, HDNet has been running a yule log on Christmas Day for the past few years.

Nothing much going on in the world of FIOS for us to be crackling about the yule log.

Nope not here in VHO1 yet.

Please start a new thread on this ridiculous log thing. I can't imagine an intelligent and warm human being enjoying a tv picture of a burning log, in HD or SD. I'd rather turn on a flashlight or light a candle. Hell, BBQ something if you want to see a flame.
