Umm. If you're such a wizard, why didn't you get it for the rest of us?

Good point. If one can take credit, they can also take the blame for the partial results.

If it takes as long as it did with MASN-HD (for Richmond) - expect about 6 months.

Since this is a national Verizon thread, you might have to define what "the rest of us" means in context to this topic as it could cause confusion.

"The rest of us" in the mid-atlantic who get MASN as their regional sports network. MASN is to the mid-atlantic as NESN is to New England. The key difference (besides some decidedly inferior teams) is that MASN covers 2 teams, the Nats and O's, which is why they need MASN and MASN2.

INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY HD has been added...channel 623.
It's a great channel everyone.

I've had it in Hi-Def since December.

Hope everyone enjoys it.

Nice to hear FIOS is adding HD again.

Just got an email from Verizon about having to change my TV packages

Verizon is making changes to some TV service packages.

Please note, that if you have recently changed to one of our new 2010 TV packages on or after January 17, 2010, these changes will not impact you.

Do these changes affect me?

If you ordered the FiOS TV Extreme HD package prior to January 17, 2010, the channels below will no longer be available in your TV package.

Channel Name Channel Number
Cars.TV 599
Comedy.TV 695
ES.TV 558
Gospel Music Channel 224
Hallmark Movie Channel (SD/HD) 239 / 739
MGM HD 744
My Destination.TV 674
Pets.TV 633
Recipe.TV 676
World Fishing Network (SD/HD) 317 / 597

What do I do if I want to keep these channels?

Please visit us online at www.verizon.com/myverizon or give us a call to review other TV packages where these channels may be included.

So can I break my 1yr contract with them over this?

You can break your contract anytime you want but if you do, bend over and say hello to Mr. ETF.

Can someone check the diagnostics in their STB when tuned to Spike HD (554), Comedy Central HD (690), and VH1 HD (717) and see what frequencies are being used? Here in Dallas I'm seeing them 3 packed on channel 135 (861MHz). So much for being better than cable .

I had heard they were going to do this with a few channels in order to get space for more HD. Verizon claims that they are doing it only where it will not affect picture quality. In any case, we had to expect this because of all the demand for new HD channels.
Yeah, well I call BS on those claims, Futurama had some really nasty blocking on the high motion scenes tonight. They better get to adding a boatload of new HD channels real quick, because as it stands right now in Dallas, with no rearranging of any SD channels or raping of quality on HD, they have slots additional HD channels on 36, 45, 47, 93, 110, and 134, and slots for 2 HD channels on 95, 96, 97, 129, 130, 131, 132, and 133, and would have an additional slot each on 20 and 126 if they moved the 1 SD channel on each somewhere else. 76-79 are also open here, but may not be elsewhere depending on how many locals are carried, and likewise the slot on 93 might not be available in all areas since it seems to be the home of the RSN. Ignoring the space in the local area and moving back to straight 2 per channel muxes, I count room for 20 additional HD channels on their existing lineup. So much for the claims of no bandwidth.

Yeah, I know. Started to watch TEMPLE OF DOOM and shut it off when I saw it was cropped.

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm now in Frontier-land but I'm getting this EPIX preview.

Edit: Star Trek 2009 currently playing in OAR. I found a Verizon debut announcement where people complained about cropping, but apparently that's either not universal or simply no longer the case.

I too am in now-Frontierland, but I don't see a new thread for Frontier FiOS customers, and I figure my question applies here anyhow. So I shall ask it.

So the modem / router they gave me is one of those ActionTec ones. (Verizon branded, un surprisingly, since they hooked me up RIGHT after the Frontier changeover.) Surprisingly, I don't hate it at all, but: it's only the Rev. F, and so 100Mbit wired / 802.11g.

When the Rev. G's come out, which I understand are gigabit wired / 802.11n, will I be able to turn this thing in and get one of those (at some point, preferably sooner rather than later), or are they gonna make me buy a whole new modem / router? What I guess I mean is, is this their equipment, or did they "give" it to me and now it's on me if it breaks?

Star Trek is an anomaly. They crop almost every new movie they show. Wait for GI Joe to come on and you'll see what I mean.

For now MASN2-HD on 501 is only available in the DC/Baltimore areas.

Called yesterday to get the 3 months of HBO/Cinemax as advertised on my monthly bill. I called in early afternoon and the girl said it would be on by 10 pm.

Nope...nothing still as of 9 am this morning. Called the number back it says the scheduled completion of my order is Monday.

Why is it so darn difficult for Verizon to have good competent customer service? Is it too much to ask for them to do what you want the right way the first time.

Good grief, the quality of posting on this board has really sunk. Wahhhhhhh, they won't give me my free stuff fast enough to my liking. Wahhhhhhhhh.

It used to be this was the place to go for technical info, news, and how-tos re FiOS. Now it's just one petty arsed complaint after another.

Coyote-
Wow - yeah, I knew that the 3-1 QAM combinations were going to start happening. And that was going to be the first trio! They haven't made the change yet here out of VHO8. Guess you are the 1st one to notice! They are being very selective about what channels they are doing it with. But, we should see more of this over time in order to handle more HD channels.

You may be the trial area where they will play with variable bit rates to get the best levels.
I don't get it. If they're going to 3-1 QAM combinations then why did we have to drop 4 channels?
Matt-
There's quite a bit of HD channels out there to add!

Plus, as they are doing this move to 3-1, they need to maintain the original 2-1 QAM structure out of the SHE's until ALL VHO's have been moved. Then, they take down the original 2-1 feeds and that "half" QAM space will open up.

That is why if you notice, the QAM Coyote mentioned the 3-1 pack is on is very high up in the spectrum.

I knew this was coming for months now - glad it was made public without my influence! LOL.

In other news, Nat Geo Wild HD will be added this coming week on 632.
Let's assume that Verizon had maxed out QAM capacity with 118 national channels at 2 per QAM. That means at 3 per QAM on just the national channels, they could hold 177 national channels. And that's not even considering a consolidation of the local/regional HD channels.

There are not 177 HD channels available. There might be 177 a year from now--emphasis on might.

Granted, I assume they'll be doing this selectively so as not to ruin any particularly heavy HD channels, but how many of those can there even be? Pretty much all of the channel providers have already degraded the signal by cramming too many channels onto the satellite transponders in the first place.

The only reason I bring this up is because it's been suggested that the four removed channels were permanently removed. That reflects very little longterm thinking on Verizon's part. But, I suppose we regularly complain about its lack of longterm thinking. (E.g., prepping to release 320 GB DVRs when competitors are prepping 500 GB DVRs.)
