My Actiontech recently failed, and Verizon sent me a new one, no problem. At the same time, I told them that my battery had been dead for a while, and they sent me a new one of those, no problems, no cost.
The battery isn't really doing anything for me, since my phone lines are still on copper, and the ONT does not power Internet/TV from battery backup. (I thought I had read that they can configure it to do this, but the tech said he couldn't.) I just wanted the beeping to stop.
[Edit: I've had Fios Internet for several years, and Fios TV for close to three years, so it isn't that my equipment is under warranty.]

"You're kidding right? The battery died and I have to pay to replace it?""Well it's over 12 months old, so it's out of warranty."
"I'm sorry but that doesn't make any sense to me, the battery died and I have to pay to replace it? That just doesn't sound right are you sure?""Yes, it's just a heavy duty battery, I can give the names of some places where you can buy one if you like."
"No thanks, if the power goes out I can't watch TV or use my computer and I have a cell phone so I don't really need the thing.""OK, is there anything I can help you with today?"
"Ah no, I only had one problem and you couldn't help me with that, I don't feel like making one up to see if you can help me with it. Have a good afternoon."
