I got one of these the other day.

I like the extra capacity.
I haven't really noticed it being "faster", in fact, it seems to have more of the remote delay feature.
It really has this when going into VOD... I can press the direction arrows, and no movement. I do see a blinking power button to indicate that it received the command.

I'm wondering if Verizon blocks remote commands when going into VOD, forcing you to watch their "featured" video. It seems like I can get 1 or 2 commands off before it ignores commands.

Yeah, but this is a HD forum. Since they don't even carry that channel in HD, you will not find much interest in this thread about the carriage or removal of a SD channel. I only watch HD, so the effect this has on me is zero and I'm sure it will also be with most other posters here. Fact is this is OT and really should not even be posted here.

RFD does have an HD feed. Just don't know who carries it. But losing the SD version would certainly not allow any carriage of the HD version.

I'm guessing the delays in remote response are due to 1.8 and not the box.

I've had it a day and I am enjoying the idea of being able to record, well, everything and not be concerned with filling it up. The interface, I'm assuming is the same as yours. We haven't gotten the 1.8 update I read about here.

I haven't had mine long enough to comment on its functionality but as far as aesthetics, it's a clunker. Where as the 6416 that I used to have and the 7100 that I still have are sleek, modern, and high tech looking, the 7232 looks like it was designed and built in some old Soviet gulag. But WTH, it's just a cable box and it's got a kick arsed hard drive.

Ditto. BTW, are you the DCFan from the various Washington Nationals' sites?

I really hope my sarcasm detector is off, but did you really just call the Fisher Price MyFirstSTB 'sleek, modern, and high tech looking?'

The 7232 looks like it was built by someone in 9th grade shop class while the "older" models look like they were built by master carpenters, IMHO.

It's what's on the inside that counts.

Well I think for color alone the new cases have a nicer exterior. I've not seen TVs, DVD Players or other AV components come in silver in five years and I don't think I've ever seen a silver BD Player. That being the case I think the black exterior would at least be able to hide unobtrusively in a modern AV rack instead of screaming, hey it's me the STB/DVR with circa 1995 styling like my 6416 does.

I don't care if it is metallic purple with red stripes--- I WANT 500> GB!!

Sorry, should have mentioned that.

Yeah, exactly. I want a black slab and not the over styled 90s monstrosities that are the current boxes. The color scheme makes them look ancient and the big orange, curved, and oval display would look out of place on a clock radio today let alone on a piece of AV gear.

Yes, it's what's on the inside that counts, but I really wish I could hide the DVR in a cabinet somewhere. The older ones are ugly with a capital U.

Hey I'm with you. It's like having a primered car with 500HP, but you can always paint the car later while Verizon frowns on painting their STBs for some reason. I'm just saying if I have a choice between a 500GB DVR that's silver with orange lights or a 500GB DVR that is black with blue lights the later fits into modern Av racks much better. There was a time and a place for silver components just like there was a time and a place for fake wood components, but that time is not 2010.

One thing about the black box: it effectively disappears. It's on the bottom shelf in my rack and, with the lights off or even down, all I can see is the time and the power light.

I have a request: can anyone point me to a site that tells me how to use my existing "n" router with the one Verizon supplies. I'm comfortable configuring my router, I just don't know what settings to apply so that it can work alongside the Verizon one without a conflict.

Thanks.

Over the years we had them all (Directv, Dishnetwork, Comcast). We have FIOS for about 2 years now. I wouldn't have anything else. The best HD Channels on FIOS, IMHO, is HD NET, HD Theatre, HDNET Movies. The quality is second to none. Great Concerts, Great Muscle Car Shows Motorcycle Building Shows & Auctions. Mark Cuban has done a spectacular job with quality HD.

Could not agree more.

So from reading the last couple of pages, in order to use a e-SATA HD when 1.9 is avail I'll need the 7232. Correct? Right now I have the 6416 but I thought that it had an e-SATA port but I guess that it doesn't.

On another topic, the remote lag is absolutely horrible. I'm on img 1.8 but I've had remote lag since I've had the service, which is May 2010. Has Verizon acknowledged this issue? I would have asked @FIOSTV guy but he prolly wouldn't even know.

I just got 1.8 last week and that's when my "remote lag" began and it really is annoying. I rebooted a few times but it didn't do anything. I also have been experiencing for the first time some audio dropouts every once in a while. In the 13 months I've had FIOS I've never experienced these issues. I will call them on Monday (since the phone wait times on weekends seem to be very long).

I had to Switch to Fios because I could not get Directv signal where I moved. I had the installation yesterday, and I am very disappointed with the picture quality. Directv was like watching blu-ray compared to the quality I am getting now.

Is this common. i thought fios should have been comparable if not better. They also do not carry any 3d channel, and most of the channels I like(sports soccer are not even HD like with DirecTV)

they even cost me a hard inquiry in my credit report. do you have the same experience???

or did the tech. messed up the installation. He was here for about 7 hours.

No. Any 7xxx series box will do.

FIOS PQ is better than D*, so there's something wrong with your installation. Call FIOS and have them check it out.

Hoping any lag in my 6416 will go away in a 7232.

The HD locals on DirecTV look very, very, very close to OTA signals on my new 65" Sammy LED TV. I was shocked. I could only tell the slight difference when I was one to two feet away from the screen. We sit 13 feet away...

You're posting in a Verizon FiOS thread, didja know? Are you saying your older set, whatever that was, was better with respect to local channels or that the signal you had from FiOS was inferior to what you now get from D*? How close did you sit to your old TV? This post makes no sense in a FiOS thread.

Ken had immediately jumped to the conclusion that "FIOS PQ is better than D*, so there's something wrong with your installation."
Since FiOS passes the signal without any compression, his assumption is probably correct. I assume there could be instances where DirecTV and FiOS look "the same," but never situations where DirecTV should look "better." You can't get better than no compression.

That is the majority held position around here from responses I have read.
