Yep, there is a "Sherlock Holmes" that is on HBO/MAX that is 2:15 and a DIFFERENT "Sherlock Holmes" on Sho/Max that is only 90 minutes long, but both are getting the same guide descriptions....

Anyone know why my DVR would have networking issues all of a sudden? On demand and the widgets don't work. Neither does remote DVR manager. Everything was fine a day ago. I reset my router and power cycled my STB. I called Verizon and they re-initialized my DVR from their end, and still no luck. I have a tech coming over a week from now, but would love to be able to fix this before then. Ideas?

Did you try to restart your computer? I believe all those services are via the computer and not the router.
I had to reset my router a while back when one of the boxes lost the Guide. After resetting, I discovered that the router didn't recognize our laptops until I went into the router software and authorized them again. It seems strange that the DVR would be affected this way, but take a look at the software and see if there's anything weird.

Edit: I just remembered - the router had reverted to WEP w/ a default password, so I had to change it back to WPA2 w/ the password that the laptops were trying to use. I still don't see how your DVR might be affected, though.

I've been getting hammered with EAS alerts a lot the last several nights, usually late, but I've lost recordings mid-show. I get the point, but there have been at least 3 or 4 in the last few days and they cause the channel to change.

What are EAS alerts?
Emergency alert system

Perhaps a to do for 2.0

This could be easily solved if the EAS alert was an overlay graphic displayed by the STB like some other cable systems use.
The FiOS method switches the channel you are watching a SD feed with the EAS alert.

My 6416 DVR has always stopped the recording and started a new one after the alert. I would still prefer a popup message though.

Here in Dallas, there have been 3 EAS alerts recently, a required monthly test on May 3, and required weekly tests on May 6 and 12. All 3 directed a channel change to 63.101 (I always wondered why that channel was in the clear...).

according to the Verizon website, eSATA support is now available on QIP7000 dvrs and the notice makes no mention of needing the 1.9 software upgrade.
Can anyone confirm this is the case?
thanks.

You do indeed need 1.9.

Yeah, it's just another example of the departments at Verizon not talking to each other.

I'm considering switching from Cablevision to FIOS. I have a TiVo Premiere XL, Series 3 and TiVo HD. I have 2 concerns:

1. Will the FIOS Cable cards work properly with my TiVos?
2. Will I still be able to watch my previously recorded content from Cablevision (including recordings from premium channels) when I put the FIOS cards in?

Yes and yes.

I just switched my Tivo HD from TWC to FIOS in Manhattan. Verizon seems even less familiar with Cablecards than the traditional cable providers, if that's possible. The billing and ordering people are badly trained; my order was initially entered with a "digital adapter" which is the STB, not a Cablecard. When I called to fix it, I had multiple people tell me that you couldn't record programs with Cablecards, that you couldn't watch-and-record with them, that Verizon didn't even offer Cablecards! So there's a certain amount of persistence one has to have to even order FIOS with a Cablecard but Tivo users are probably used to that.

However, don't expect the installation tech to show up with a Cablecard. Mine didn't even though the order form listed it (Verizon departments don't seem to communicate with one another). On the other hand, the tech went back to the field office to pick one up and returned. He had never done a Cablecard install before so it was a little dicey but everything got provisioned and set up on the first try.

And as UnnDunn wrote, the FIOS Cablecards work fine - Verizon installed a multistream Motorola-branded one, my TWC Cablecard was from Cisco - and all my recorded programming from TWC are still watchable.

Anyone have any news on when the 1.9 upgrade is coming to Metro NYC?

The 1.9 deployment has not progressed forward from the initial DAC yet.

What makes the above all the more laughable is that Vz's own boxes use M-Cards!!!
It's clearly visible through the open grill on the 7100 STB("M-Card" is written on the card itself!)

When I ordered the Multi-room DVR software I even had a CSR tell me flat-out that it wouldn't work at all with an SD box!!!(just a reminder-it will, it just won't stream HD content). when I repeated this to tech support I swear I could "hear" the guy roll his eyes over the phone

To be fair the tech support people are on top of their game-always helpful & knowledgeable. Also my past experience was that Vz in NYC was always a major PIA to deal with-they're better down here.
Worst case, you can always "liberate" the M-Card from a set top box and use it in a Tivo/Ceton/whatever. Since there are no copy protected channels on FiOS it doesn't matter that they won't pair the card to the device.

Is ESPN 3D full-time on FioS? It's only part-time on D*. We have both services, of which we don't pay extra for ESPN 3D on D*, but I might be willing to pony up some more ca$h if it is full-time on FioS.
Yes, it is full time on channel 1002. It's available either with ultimate hd or something like $10 a month with other packages.

the channel is there all the time, but the content is not. when there isn't 'live programming' all u c is the D* icon, not repeat programming, as i'm sure or hope that's what fios does.

That's exactly what they do. Verizon will not carry a part time channel, I guess it's part of their mission to pass on the channels exactly as they receive them.

According to Dave Zatz:

FiOS VOD coming to Roku and PS3.....

I wonder if the FREE stuff (which is hard to find on the regular STBs, according to all the Elderly people I've met - my folks mostly) will be available ?
Heh. Comcast is already onto quad-tuner DVRs and we don't even have 1.9 yet. I have Comcast available to me too, quad tuners is very tempting but I don't think I'd switch because of their lousy broadband caps. If and when FIOS implements caps I might consider switching.

I turned on my DVR today, and all the recordings are gone! So are all scheduled recordings. I called tech support and he says the hard drive is probably gone bad. They are sending me a new one. This is the new model 7232-2 and is only a couple of months old. I sure hope this is not a common occurrence.

Is there any way to get my recordings back?
