They did it again! Just like with Cartoon Network HD (757) if you punch in 578 you can get the Lakers channel (might be local...I'm in so Cal) but even if you are tuned to 578 it doesn't show at all on the guide. The only way to get there is to punch in 578 on the remote. CN HD is still that way. rolleyes.gif

True Comcast had Cartoon Network in HD two years ago...
Cartoon Network HD finally up in VHO14.

This, after CSRs stating:

The HD channel has been on FiOs for years.
It does not exist.
Not available and or will never be available in your area.
Not in the ExtremeHD Package.
and on and on.......

Not the slightest bit surprised. FiOS: Great idea... piss-poor execution.
They got the fiber. Alas that is pretty much it.

I have their latest DVR and it only records two shows at once. Conflicts galore.

Also, channel changing is really slow sometimes. Often looks as if the unit froze. There's supposed to be a fix, which will only take a few months to roll out, I'm sure.

Does fios still have a PQ advantage? I don't know. I got a 65" plasma and the same shows I download from "unofficial sources" look better than what I get from fios and legitimately pay for. It's nut, but true. Fewer motion artifacts, for sure.
Yeah there'll be a fix sometime in Spring maybe, and then right after that you'll see another fee increase on your DVR. And I'll tell ya, the motion stutter I've had to deal with for over three years, on three different DVR's, and in SD or HD, has gotten pretty bad lately. It was talked about some months back in this thread, but I can't seem to find the similar threads on DSL reports or on the Verizon message board. I don't think it's related to any particular model DVR, but I don't care. It annoys the hell out of me.

Sorry for the rant... /off now.

Have you checked VOD to see if any of your conflict shows are there? If not, do any of these shows have repeat showings? Just a thought. smile.gif

Motion artifacts are very rare here (NYC FIOS since Jan.). Also using a 65" plasma with a fairly decent de-interlace circuit. Artifacts such as motion blocking were also rare with Time Warner here, used much longer. Of course, higher-resolution filtering anywhere along the chain reduces motion artifact chances. PQ from a 'crispness' viewpoint remains vague. Can't say I see much programming that evokes a WOW PQ-wise. Blu-ray discs are sometimes better with the higher resolutions, but movies receive heavy filtering. FIOS regional super headends filtering differently might be a factor. Assume a byte count from separate DVR recordings could pinpoint this. But resolution/crispness comparisons seem too vague unless AVSers use something like resolution bursts and an optical reticle to measure and compare FIOS delivered material. -- John

here is the DC area FIOS is still seems identical to what is sent out over the air. The recordings still take up basically the same amount of space.

The staggering idiocy of verizon.com.

I have a billing problem. I lost my voice, so I tried online chat. CSR told me I had to call or use email form. Okay, I used email form. I kept getting this error.
Code:
Please avoid the following ^()+=[]';{}|"<>~ special characters in your message.

What the heck? That's right, no apostrophe, so no contraction for you. I checked and checked my message. Did not see anything. Copied and pasted into a text editor and used regex search. Found nothing. I figured it must be a length problem. I started condensing my message. Still same error message. I kept condensing til I got down to literally 3 sentences and it went through.

Unbelievable. And the instruction actually told you to give as much detail as possible to help them resolve it quickly.

Verizon has just about the worst customer service reps in the business. Most seem glad to get off the phone as quickly as possible and dump your problem to the next rep. This is not new, it has been going on for years. Verizon is still dealing with their legacy of being a telco company, where customer service was never a priority.
Anecdotal evidence can show both sides. My experience with Vz CSRs has always been very positive. They are very friendly and helpful. When I renegotiate our contract, they give us good deals. In fact, our contract is expiring later this month. When we called, the CSR told us that there weren't any current promotions that would help us, in fact our contract had one more month to go, and we should call back in the next month to see if a better deal is available.

I agree with that. I tried using the chat feature for assistance and was transferred to 4 different people/departments. And then the chat connection dropped.

Has anyone else noticed since Cartoon Network [adult swim] started in HD on 757 its SD channel on 257 switched to mono audio? To be precise it's the left channel on both channels. I noticed it watching American Dad where dialog has disappeared when it occurred on only the right channel. And it's not my box as the other SD channels have stereo and it's not CN/AS as it's stereo on their HD channel.

I'd call it in but I don't want to have my boxes reset for nothing only to be told it's my fault from someone who doesn't know anything about audio. After the debacle of AM sound on Comedy Central a couple years ago I'll just live with it until I get an HD box.
SD is dead to me.
Definitely just get an HD box. I rarely even turn on an SD channel anymore.

With the latest update to the Fios app for the I pad...we are now able to watch live tv.
Watched a few things last night and was happy with the quality and the "guide" within the app. Finally something to make FiOS "feel" like it is keeping up.

So, when will they update the number of channels available through X-Box ?
