I disagree. The Showtime originals "Dexter","Californication, "Brotherhood" and "Weeds" are generally considered to be some of the best original series on cable. Many feel they have surpassed HBO.

How can anyone be "billed" for a FREE trial??

On another note, does anyone know exactly when the free trial ends.. for example do we get all of Sunday 11/18 thru midnite , & what about movies ending, say, 1:15AM Monday morning (or whatever)..??

do you guys think hbo or the movie package is the better deal?
i've been with fios for a while but have recently added a new HD TV and want to get some more programming.
theres a few series i like from hbo and a few i like from showtime so its a toss up.
which one gets better movies?

thanks

IMHO the movie package is the best value. HBO is just not a big enough draw for me to pass up all the content you get from the movie package. If you can only get one I would get the movie package.

I've got both, but the movie package is a great deal. If you're considering HD movies, the movie package gives you more channels to choose from, there is only one HBO HD channel right now. Later there will be more, but for now...

Yes, you do.

The last preview (which was also scheduled to run through Sunday) was available until Monday morning.

THE MOVIE PACK is give you 3x more bang for you buck. and if you like just movies and not the HBO series like (the sopranos, etc..) than MOVE PACK is where its at

the movie pack include
about 45 movie channels (STARZ, ENCORE, TMC, AND SHOWTIME)
access TO
SHO ON-DEMAND
STARZ ON-DEMAND
AND TMC ON-DEMAND

AND 3 HD CHANNELS
SHO HD (EAST)
STARZ (EAST) HD
TMC HD

---
HBO includes
14 hbo channels
HBO (east) hd
and Hbo VOD

i would say movie pack, as Starz advertises "adds a new movie every sat night.. "

I only stumbled across this free preview by going to channel 49 which I only do once in a blue moon. Another poster here mentioned it as their source of info when Fios added A&E HD and the Fox Business Channel.

My Q is, why is this free preview info so secretive or should I be reading thru the bill a little closer?

Customer service rep whom I talked to didn't know how to get it without a field technician's involvement.

Here in SE Virginia, we have no Verizon/FiOS stores except for their wireless products. Everything goes via a service call. They were supposed to build a modern storefront for opening in 2007, but that idea just disappeared without any explanation.

Last week we were told the 16th from management, but that was before I came across the posts here about the newest delayed rollout.

Well, it is November 14. The free preview runs from November 15 to 18. So they probably will turn off the subscription requirement in the early AM hours.

I only look at the HD versions of those channels.

I'm a courier in the NYC area. Yesterday, I had a delivery to a vz call center out on Long Island. I asked someone in management about the IMG rollout and after sending a few im's to the dept. that was working on the project, I was told that it would be out in early Janurary. At least on Long Island anyway.

When I signed up for FIOS they gave me one free month of the movie pack. Before the month ended I told them I did not want it so it was canceled. A few weeks later my son said "Dad, we still get Showtime..." I called again and he said it has been canceled....one week later, I still had it. This was a few weeks ago.
I ain't calling them again and spending 15 minutes (or more) going through that "horrid" automated system then spending 20 minutes explaining the problem then going through dropped channels because they flicked the wrong switch, then calling them back them back again. Vicious cycle...unless I'm being billed for it.

LOL I guess I was more tired than I thought last night!

As someone who does not have a Verizon phone number let me tell you that I have found out that the easiest way to talk to someone is to simply say "agent" as soon as the automated lady starts to talk to you. Don't even bother putting in your phone number. It does help if you at least wait until after the first menu option of billing, service, etc.

Laters,
Jeff

We compared the size of last night's two-hour Mythbusters (DSCHD) on FiOS and Comcast. Thanks bicker.

The recording sizes were virtually identical, which indicates that Discovery itself is responsible for the overcompression on DSCHD. We suspected that before, but it's nice to have confirmation.

Time table is now. CW/WGNT channel 807 in Hampton Roads.

I sent this quote to my P.R. contact at VZ. Here is what I got in return:

The fact is, the poster must not know that we have a kiosk set up for customers to order items such landline phone, High Speed Internet (DSL) and FiOS Internet and TV services at a Verizon Wireless store in Virginia Beach, and we're opening two more kiosks in area Verizon Wireless stores within the next week. We also are looking to open additional kiosks next year.

Here are the details:

Verizon Hilltop Location
729 First Colonial Rd.
Virginia Beach, VA 23451
opened on 7/18/07

Verizon Virginia Beach Blvd Location
4001 Virginia Beach Blvd
Virginia Beach, VA 23452
Opens 11/16/07

Verizon Newport News Location
12227 Jefferson Ave
Newport News, VA 23602
Opens 11/21/08

Now you know what I know. First one into a store can tell us what they can and cannot do there.

Funny story...well kind of. I would always get on my kids case for watching "Mythbusters" over and over...I would say "come on, how many times can you see them bust the same myth, turn this off".

Now that it's in HD, my son wittingly said "come on Dad, how many times can you watch the same myth over and over?" Of course I answered "as long as it's in HD, I'll keep watching it"...

Does bicker get CSN-MA and Nat Geo HD to check those?

hopefully they can resolve my f'ing billing issues. how hard is it to bundle everything on one bill without having to be transferred back and forth between billing and the e-center. and the e-center is a joke. it's an easy 30 minute wait everytime i've called (currently on hold)

He doesn't have our CSN, but I'll ask about NGC-HD.

1. I will check this out on Friday. I smell fish wrapped in a newspaper.
2. How are the FiOS customers supposed to know about these new kiosks? I haven't seen any notifications about their opening. I was in the First Colonial wireless store last month and I never noticed it.
3. I stand by my original statement about the single, master storefront in Virginia Beach. It was supposed to open in 2007. There was even an internet posting of pictures from a prototype in another part of the country. What happened to that?

If I remember right, the "kiosk" may be nothing more than a stand-alone computer terminal in the front of the store. In other words: no different than a telephone call! I will check on this tomorrow and report back.

For the free preview of the movie package from Thursday to Sunday, I can confirm that the movie channels are also in the clear on the QAM channels. So anyone with a TV or STB with a QAM tuner hooked up to get the locals can also watch the Starz, TMC, Show time, Encore channels for the next 4 days.

Show time-HD and TMC-HD are on QAM 118. Starz-HD on QAM 110. I did a limited search for the SD channels, but there are a bunch of them on QAM 88, 89, 90, 94. Sundance is on QAM 89, IFC on QAM 119 for a couple of channels I looked up at random.
