The Uconn game is in sd on Directv, so it must be sd everywhere.

Are you sure it isn't 784? All of the line up cards say it is. I have Directv so I can't check for certain.

Not worth it just to see parts of games, some not even live, sunday ticket is slighly more and you see all the games even 6 at once split screen
post #1900 of 2320
Red Zone is $40 for the season and it is awesome. I DVRd it this weekend and the best way to describe it is like having Season Ticket and being able to see all the good parts to all the games, without needing 6 DVRs and having ESP. I watched about 2 or 3 hours worth and here is what I saw.

Live coverage. They start out with one of the interesting 1PM games. In this case is was the Vikings/Dolphins. As soon as any other game gets to the the red zone, they cut to the game giving you a description of how they got to the red zone. This part, if possible is live. If there are two teams in the red zone, they show both games in small windows, then show replays of one, the other or both depending on what else is going on. When a game goes to commercial, they switch to another game or a replay of a big play you may have missed. To quote the announcer "They have gone to a commercial in this game and we don't do commercials here."

At halftime, when all the games were in halftime, they did a review of what they had to that point. No commercials.

I didn't see the end, but a friend of mine said that at the end, they count up all of the touchdowns and "There were 63 touchdowns today, here they are." then show all of the touchdowns.

To sum it up, a Fantasy Football players dream and for $40 vs. $300 for Sunday Ticket, not even close.

Good news on the hard drive, bad news on the release date. Please keep us updated as to when we should be able to walk into a cox office and get the whole house DVR.

As far as the external hard drive goes, do you have any more information eSATA, USB2.0, will it only be specific brand external drives or will any external one work, is there a maximum size limit. Would like to start looking for a deal on one while I'm waiting for the release date.

Thanks.

Is the October 4th date for the launch of the whole house DVR still a go? Any news on the specifics for the external hard drive?

Any word on whether the "Personal media player" that "enables display of photos and playback of video and audio from
standards-based home network connected devices" will be part of the package?

Thanks.

Im not a expert but I am pretty sure the eSATA question has been addressed that it will work, but there is 0 support from Cox on it. So no specifics will be given. As for the "Personal Media Player", from the posts here, I have not heard that mentioned as a feature. And thats not the kind of thing they throw in last second. Still a good question though and I eagerly await the official word.

Long time, no post (jury duty). We're softlaunching the Plus Pak, which includes Whole Home DVR, next week.

If you're interested, you should call in and have your name added to the list. The sales team would then call you later (probably a few weeks) about purchase/install.

But definitely call in to add your name to the list if you're interested.

Yes, it has been answered that it will work and there will be zero support, but even from what I can tell Cisco's website doesn't show what will or won't work as far as eSata goes, so I was just looking for some further information and not really technical support.

Would be nice if the "Personal Media Player" portion was enabled, but I am not holding my breath.

Can we not just walk into a Cox office next week and swap out our current DVRs for a "master" and a "slave" box? Not sure why I have to call and get a call back...

No self installs. This isn't as easy as just getting a new box. A MoCA network has to be made between the client and host.

That mean Cox is going to bang us the $50 or so for someone to come out and install? That would make this a lot less attractive. Not sure why with today's technology that they wouldn't have the IDs for the two boxes in the home office and have you call in once you have hooked the boxes up to the coax in the house and then they send a signal out to the boxes to tell them to communicate with each other.

I know that's oversimplified dramatically, but I don't see why that couldn't be done.

I'll be interested to see if there is an install cost when I have my wife call tomorrow to get on the list.

Your paying for time. If this is anything like the system I had installed in CA (different provider) then the 50$ barley covers the hourly rate of the tech. Factor in the cost of any coax, splitters, amps, filters, etc he uses, and not to mention gas to get there, I highly doubt there making money off it. Self Installs are like ATM's, they may seem, and sometimes are, convenient, but there actually designed to save the company money. Just like I wouldn't want to trust a 100K transaction to a ATM, I wouldn't want such new tech to be self installed. But thats just me. I understand your point, I just happen to disagree.

I too have this exact issue:
"One of my DVX3400M boxes has picked up a disturbing habit. It will record everything it is suppose to be sometimes when you go to play it back it will refuse to playback the program, sometimes it will work fine and other rimes it will start to play it back and then in the middle of the program just freeze with no way to fast forward past that point. "
Ive been thru 2 boxes with the same issue and the one below.

"Also still having the black screen fast forwarding issue, very annoying trying to guess when the show is back on to stop FF? "

Has COX addressed this yet? I hear its Firmware but so far, no fix from trying out a few boxes. I briefly went back to a 6416 and the fan was so loud, and speeds up/slows down, i couldnt deal and im with the DVX3400M now still with black screen on ff (only at 2x and 3x ff, at 1x ff the pic flickers on and off...

help anyone

The firmware issue was related to FF not working correctly on cached shows I think(least on mine) on Fox, and doesn't match the issues your referring to. That sounds like recording error. And if you had it with two receivers in a row, I would check the error count on that device. Any issues with watching normal TV? Specially on those channels your trying to record?
Hi there Harry, let me clarify exactly what my situation is vs copy/pasting another persons.

1) seems like on some HD DVRd shows, when I FF, it goes to a black screen (only on 2x and 3x, at 1xFF its a flicker on/off of the picture. Not all HD shows do this but its not isolated to FOX as it did this for an ABC show and an NBC show recently. I am not certain, but I dont think this is occuring with nonHD shows

2) Not sure on the newest DVX3400-M if I will be getting playback errors so waiting to determine if that holds true. The last one when I went to play some recorded shows simply would kind of freeze what I was watching and not play the DVRd show, and then state (I think) playback error). Sometimes I would get a recording error.

3) spoke to Cox, they have already 'released' (soft launch) the whole house DVR. When i called to get my name on the list, i was placed on hold, the person spoke to his supervisor and instead of taking my name, he instead got approval to set up an installation. The additional cost is about $15. Thought others might want to know this information. The installation fee is $75. Im on the fence....

When you say $15, are you referring to the additional cost of service? If so, it actually depends on what you have in your existing set up. I had one DVR and one HD-only box. Now I have one host and one client, so I'm only paying $5 more a month for MoCA and 500GB storage.
I presently have 1 DVR, so going to the whole house DVR would be a host and a client so in essence, 1 extra box (our upstairs TV has no box). So that configuration will cost us 15 more then presently spending

This issue applies to HD networks that are 720p from the source, such as ABC, ESPN etc, and on DCX boxes only.
no solution to the issue though?

$75 installation fee?

The only reason I want this is the prospect of actually having new equipment, and not the constantly recycled crap boxes that you guys are distributing (I'm not trying to be insulting to you, EJW. I know they are not personally your boxes )

If the DVR fails again because the 8 yr old hard drive has worn out, I'm done with Cox's DVR service altogether.

Oh, and do you know if there will ever be a firmware fix for the line down the left side of the screen when the box is set to 1080i and connected through HDMI? I've been waiting since February.

I'm not trying to be snippy, I'm just frustrated and don't think I should have to pay extra to get boxes made within the last few years which haven't been in other people's homes where God knows what happened to them.
