I think now that they have a second data service to sell, you will see things like apps and online TV coming out eventually. I really don't want to come off as a Cox fan box, just so far, none of their short falls have personally effected me, so I don't have any reason to complain. For now anyway. ::fingers crossed:: Heh

Don't you have whole home? Doesn't it support eSATA up to 1.5TB?

Trio Whole Home DVR has a 500GB Internal HDD, eSATA Expansion does work on the Main DVR, but will not play nicely with streaming to the Client STBs. It has something to do with the way the buffering is configured. Hopefully, a future SW/FW release will fix it. But for now adding an External HDD is useless if you plan to play recordings from the Client STB.

I have a 1TB external hooked to the host and it does work just fine. Playback on the clients does not work and Cox says it isn't supported yet. ~270 hours of HD content is a little more than I want to keep around. Makes cleaning up the DVR list a lot tedious.

270 hrs of hd content on a 1 tb hd? Are you sure about that?
i don't mean to stab cox in the back thats why i think verizons dvr is better am not saure about the whole home but cox does beat everyone at customer support and internet
post #2167 of 2293

I'm still waiting for the firmware update that is going to fix the line across the left side of the screen when using an HDMI connection on the old Motorola boxes. It was supposed to come out last year some time, but nope! I'm still hooked up using component because of this.

Customer service?

Well, I recorded 90 hours on the stock 500GB before I plugged in the 1TB drive. Since 1.5 TB is 3x 500GB, I figured roughly 270. My maths could be wrong and alas I am human so there may be some errors in my counting. You are correct that it doesn't make sense. With the old DVR I would get somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 hours of HD on a 160GB HD. If we use that as a baseline, 1.5TB would give me about 168 hours of HD. What I am 100% certain about is that even with just the internal drive, keeping the recordings list clean is cumbersome at best.

If you have a 1TB Ext HDD attached, then how do you use the Clients? Do you use them as single tuners only and never playback recorded content?

So the ehd adds to the internal hd? With Directv, it temporarily replaces it.

The clients will play back recordings that are on the internal drive but not the external drive. There is no indicator as to where the program is stored.

I don't really play back video on the clients very often, so if I can't play the recording, I can usually get it in On Demand or I just watch something else.

The external drive adds to the internal drive, when I plugged in the drive the programs on the internal drive were all still there and I could watch them on both the host and the client. When it started adding recordings to the external drive it still kept the internal recordings and I could still watch those from the client. The recordings on the external drive are unwatchable on the clients.

Could be in conjunction with the HD channel move ... my current bill states effective 7/28/2011 all HD channels will move to the 1000 block ... 1000 + the SD channel number. E.g.: WFSB will relocate from 701 to 1003.

I have cox analog cable and lowest speed internet. I am looking into going to digital TV with HD, phone maybe. Anyway I see so much talk here about boxes that I would like to ask if there is a box I should refuse? DVR is also a possibilty so that will effect the box. Are there models prone to problems? It doesn't have to have many features and we will just use it in one room. Any insight would be apprieciated.
Thought of one more question. If I go to digital is the analog signal still on the cable so I can have a second TV with analog tuner?

I wish Cox would remap the broadcast HD over cable channels.. I find it really annoying on a cable ready TV, doing to 3.1, 61.1 30.1.. Should be 3, 3.1, 6, 6.1, 4, 4.1.. or 1006, 1004, 1003.. there too..

Take a minute and think about how much we give Cox per year, my bill is $175 per month, I have NO DVR, have 2 HD boxes with NO recording's, and NO HBO , Premuim channels either, just Phone, Cable, Middle Tier Internet.
What pisses me off is all these scam specials for $79 or $99 a month, that I cannot get cause I have a "Bundle"
Think about it I spend $2100 a Yr for mostly just commercials.
Only way to get all the HD "Free" channels is you have to spend $90 for digital tier, 90% of the channel's I dont even watch!
And I know my options so just do tell me switch to this or that.

Can anyone please tell me what the most current Cox equipment is? I'm switching to Cox and am planning to get a regular cable box and a DVR for another tv at the Meriden office. The cable box one I would prefer the smallest unit available.. but I'd like to know which units Cox is giving to their customers, just so I won't get stuck with an older model.

Thanks!

The inventory changes on a daily basis. There is a smaller profile HD/DVR but not much smaller than the old 6412s(??).

You can't necessarily request a specific box but if they have multiple models at the office they should be able to pick one off the shelf for you.

So.. My TivoHD with Cablecards thinks all the channel changes happened this morning.. And now nothing records, because tivo thinks the channels are all up in the 1000's.. and they still map to the lower channels?

Anyone having this problem? That they haven't pushed out the cablecard remapping?

My Tivo Premier did this yesterday. I simply re-checked all the old 700 range channels in settings so I could tune to them again, however there is no programming info on them. I didn't have any recordings set, but am willing to bet if there were any, they wouldn't have gone, since I think our Tivo's now assume our shows are on the new 1000 range channels. Tomorrow after the change really takes place, I'll just remove the 700s again.

So Tivo jumped the gun on the guide data change....

Probably because the DPUC info mentioned 7/27 and 7/28...

Did the dates change?
Same thing happened to me, TiVo made the change a couple days ago. It looks like the changes went through today, so everything is working fine now.

So what happened the Music Choice "HD" channels that were supposed to launch on Wednesday? I know a few months ago they were set to launch and then Cox delayed that until Wednesday. Now that day has come and gone and these channels are still not showing up. I'm curious as to how much better they'll sound compared to the standard music choice channels.

Many technical delays have prevented the Music HD channels from their launch; There is however, no change in sound quality for this transition, simply a change in on screen picture.

Wow, so never mind, I don't really care too much about this. I was just under the assumption (because there is very little info on these stations) that the sound quality would be improved. Who really cares about a clearer image on a music channel anyway?
^^ Cox does. They're working hard to overcome the technical delays as we speak.
