Thank you for your inquiry. Cox is committed to providing the best
customer service possible.

We have received your recent e-mail regarding our negotiations with
LIN.
We currently do not have any information regarding when the
negotiations
will finalize. We hope to have completed all negotiations by Superbowl
time but are not able confirm this information.

We do apologize for the delay in obtaining these HD channels.

It may be time to get an OTA receiver!
Well the Superbowl is on ABC this year right?, R.I. has ABC we dont!, but i heard last month from a Rep we'll get it soon!!
I hope your rep knew what he/she was talking about. In my experience, the people here ar AVs seem to know more than the reps.

I guess all we can do is wait.

I believe that Lin owns Fox and CBS in RI, which we have and they don't.

What is the "DD5:1 HDMI fix" ?
About that DD5.1: I've noticed that. When I watch stuff OTA, I get DD5.1. Through the Cox box, it's downgraded and my Denon defaults to Pro Logic II

Having DD5.1 is a huge difference for the NFL on Fox and CBS. I hope they get an update for that soon (and not just for HDMI).

How is your box connected to your TV and Theater? I watch the football and other stuff and get the 5.1 without any problems. I am going component video and fiber audio to the receiver with the 6412, and component video and fiber to the receiver from my Zenith OTA box. I then use the cable box for one game and the OTA box for the other game and switch the receiver from Video 1 to Video 2 to go back and forth from game to game.

schmitter, why don't you use the dual tuner in the 6412? I normally set one tuner to FOX, hit swap on the remote, set the other tuner to CBS then use the swap button to switch between the two games. It also buffers both games so if you miss some action while on the "other" game, you can always rewind and catch up. HD PIP will be so great when they finally implement it

About the 5.1 problem: there is a reported problem with the 6412 connected via HDMI. You can set the box for DD5.1 but it reverts back to PCM. The workaround for the time being is to connect via component and not use HDMI.
I have done that also, but the switching from one device to the other through the receiver is almost instantaneous rather than the one or two second delay when going from tuner 1 to tuner 2. I think my next upgrade will be a receiver with quicker audio switching, it still takes a second for the audio to re-aquire. Also with my two HD sources and my TV, if I set it up, I can get the HD picture in picture using both sources.

Ultimately here is my wish list.

I would like the receiver to have minimum three component inputs and minimum three DVI/HDMI inputs that are hdcp compliant. On the video side it should have two DVI/HDMI and two component OUT.

Now here is the cool part. I would like to have mulitple video setups. I should be able to configure the receiver for normal or pip mode. Normal mode would send the video out of the DVI/HDMI out to the set. Then on the receiver you select which source you want to watch. The audio of course would follow. On PIP mode, I want to select which of any source goes to VID OUT 1 and VID OUT 2. These would go to two inputs on the TV. At this point I shoud be able to do an audio swap on the reciever without affecting anything else.

This way I could easily set up macros on a remote to enable the PIP and it would be relatively easy to use and provide the most flexiblity and functunality.

Yesterday I went onto WTNH's website.

http://www.wtnh.com/global/category....ral%20Comments

and emailed them:
"When will your network be shown in High-Definition on Cox Cable and Comcast?? My wife would like to be able to view Lost, Desperate Housewives, the Rose Bowl and NFL Football in High-Definition. I have been calling Cox Cable every 3 months for the past year asking for an update. Every time I get the same response - "We are working on a deal" so I figure I ask the person on the other side of the negotiating table.

Will we able to see the Super Bowl in High-Definition????"

NOTE: I incorrectly thought that Comcast did not have ABC in High-Definition.

Their response was:
"Unfortunately, Cox does not carry our HD signal yet. Our company Lin Television has provided COX an agreement that includes RI where we in addition - we own the CBS and FOX television stations. Because of this, we are hoping WTNH will follow. We cannot provide you a definitive date as that decision is up to your cable company. We certainly hope it is very soon as the Super Bowl will be on ABC
this coming February.

We do remind people that via a Best Buy or Circuit City - you can purchase
an antenna for your home and receive our HD signal free. Perhaps not the
best option you were hoping to hear - but it is an option if you choose to
pursue.

We share your concern and hope we can provide you, via Cox, a superior
signal of quality in the near future.

Have a happy new year!

Sincerely,
Deanna Banas Kluk
Program Manager"

See my post #9. I will talk to my friend that works for Cox and see if he has
any additional information on the subject.

Update.

I then asked:
"Thank you for your response.

Let's say that Cox does not agree to your deal. Will you allow them to show
the Super Bowl in High-Definition??

Happy New Year,
Miguel"

The reply was:
"Hello again Miguel!

Your question can only be answered by my corporate office and at this time
they do not have a reply in hopes that COX will deliver our HD signal by the
then.

Happy New Year!
Deanna
WTNH"

Hmmm.....

I'm not too sure what to make of that. However, from past experience with Cox, (like not roviding NESN to those of us in Southington, Meriden, and Cheshire until after the Sox won teh world series) I'm willing to bet that we will not be watching the Superbowl in HD this year. That really sucks!!! I just got a projector and was relaly looking forward showing the game on a 92" screen in HD at our Superbowl party.

It looks like I will be buying an OTA receiver for the game.

I hate Cox. It's too bad I have so many trees around my house or I would already have Direct TV

We could try inundating them with calls and emails. I already sent one. Don't know how much good it will do. It's beyond me how a business cannot care about it's customers. Especially for what we pay for cable these days.

I agree, but keep in mind that Lin is asking Cox to put another station on nation wide
besides WTNH. It doesn't sound to me like that is fair to Cox.
At least we have an option here in the Meriden / Cheshire / Southington area even thought it can be expensive ... OTA. In Cheshire, the WTNH-HD OTA signal is 100% ... you may even receive it with "rabbit ears" I have watched every Super Bowl for the last three years (WTNH OTA 3 yrs ago) in HD. I agree, having to buy an OTA receiver when you rent an HD cable box, because Cox can't come to an agreement with Lin, is ridiculous but you do what you have to do. Personally, I am glad I got the OTA receiver three years ago ... it has been put to good use.

I'll take that bet. Two years ago in CT, Cox did not have CBS in HD, so I did what you are talking about doing, buying the crap to get it OTA. What happened? One day agreement to carry the Super Bowl. Last year, in RI, there was a one day agreement to carry the Super Bowl (Lin has CBS in RI). So unless Lin really holds their ground my bet is that we get the Super Bowl in HD.
I hope you're right. To be on the safe side, I bought an OTA receiver this weekend and found that, due to all the very large trees around my house, I don't get the best signal. I figured that it would be better since all the leaves are off the trees, but I am getting a lot of signal drop outs.

Got a good deal on the receiver though, and I suppose I can sell it later to recoup some of my money.

How and when would we find out about this one day deal? Do we just have to tune in on Superbowl Sunday to check?
If you have Cox high speed internet, you should get an e-mail. I plan on keeping an eye on the guide though. My bet is that it will be 702. 700-701-703-704 are all locals, and there is a gap in the sequence for 702.

What did you get for a receiver? I had to move my antenna to the center of the attic, more north, so it wouldn't hit the southern gable end which has aluminum siding on it. On MNF I would rarely get a hicup. I would put it on the roof with a rotator, but I am scared. My roof is steep and it is up there.
I got the Accurian box from Radio Shack. My antenna is not the best either so I'm sure that has something to do with my reception. I even went up on the roof with it but the reception didn't get any better. I wasn't planning on keeping it so I didn't want to spend too much money. I only wanted it for my Superbowl Party. I plan on selling it on ebay after the Superbowl.

I have been emailing Cox and Lin in hopes of seeing my Jaguars play on Saturday and have gotten pretty much the same response as Raoul. Here was what I sent back to Ms. Banas-Kluk:

------
Hi Deanna, thank you for your response and suggestion. I don't know what's standing in the way of an agreement between Lin and Cox but, as their customer, I will remind them of our desire to have this in place.

My set will receive an OTA HD signal; unfortunately for Lin I will receive a much better signal from Sinclair's WGGB 40 in Springfield with the type of antenna we are likely to have. I know you hate lose a viewer but without Cox its proximity will make it the better choice to receive an ABC affiliate.

Thanks.
-------

I am an optimist but fear that this Saturday may be my only opportunity to see the Jags ...
