Hi ya'll. I'm going to be a new owner of a used Athena WS 7-channel HT set.
(I managed to find a decent pair of WS-100's, and the WS-60 + 4x WS-15's are arriving later this week.)
I need to drive them, but I don't know what receiver would compliment these speakers. Two receivers I've been looking at are:
Denon AVR-1910, 90 watts/channel from ~24lbs, about $400
Sony STR-DN1000, "110 watts/channel" from ~20lbs, about $320
From what I can gather, the really-new DN1000 is going to be more user-friendly (GUI), and the glossy finish may match well with a PS3 (of which I intend on buying an older, SACD-capable model), to constitute a minimalist system that is also about style. What I am worried about is the fact that I'm even considering a non-ES Sony audio product, and that it's supposed to put out 770-watts from a sub-20lb unit.
The 1910 is probably the better-known quantity. I'm going to have to put up with the remote, but the sound quality is supposed to be best-in-class. The looks won't exactly match the PS3, but you're supposed to hear
an audio system, right?
I'm actually leaning toward the DN1000. Is anyone going to try to talk me out of it? Or offer better suggestions than what I've listed? Please?
Thanks in advance for any advice/input.
