Athena owners thread. - Page 75

Paradigm probably better depending which monitor speaker and which Athena you're talking about.

For instance I'm not sure which Paradigm monitor sounds better than the F2 as that Athena is quite a good speaker.

I think the Titan is better than both the B1 or B2 bookshelf.

The Athena B1 and Paradigm Atom are pretty close but the Paradigm has better build quality. The newer versions are probably even better now. The B1 is a 8 year old speaker now with no upgraded versions since the B1.2. they are discontinued now as is Athena overall.

Well I have:
Front: Pair of AS-F2s
Center: AS-C1
Surrounds: Pair of AS-B1s
Sub: AS-P400

I'm thinking of buying:
Fronts: Pair of Monitor 11s
Center: CC-390
Surrounds: Pair of ADP-390s

I'm just trying to figure out if the performance is going to justify the cost.

Are you buying locally. Can you bring the paradigms home to compare?

Yes I'm buying locally. I called for prices yesterday. They are supposedly calling me back today.

+1 on this. None of my Athenas have a -1 or a .1 attached to their model numbers. The originals were just named AS-F2, AS-R1, AS-C1, etc.

By the way, I finally found my final AS-R1 on Ebay to complete my 7.1 setup.
AS-F2 x2, AS-C1, AS-R1 x4, AS-P400. Very happy camper!

Dear Sirs,

We would like to know if anybody have experienced the Athena Audition series (B2 and C1) speakers with the following receivers:

1) Marantz 7002
2) Yamaha 1900
3) Pioneer 1120

Our intention is to know the best opiton in terms of compatibility between these receivers.

Thanks in advance by your cooperation.

Best Regards,

Marcos

Many say that Yamaha and Athena Auditions are not good together because they are both "bright." I have an all Audition setup with a Yamaha 765 and love it.

I think that was the older Yamaha receivers that were considered bright sounding. I used to have a Yammy 595a and Athena B2s and B1s and it was a pretty bright setup. I sold my 595a about 4 years ago and sold all my Athenas this January. I have Energy RC-10 bookshelf speakers now.

I haven't heard anyone say that about Yamaha receivers in probably 5+ years. Now that these newer receivers have YPAO room calibration software that probably isn't an issue anymore.

When I was deciding upon a receiver for my Athena's, I read a review for the 765 which carried over the old warning about matching speakers because of the Yamaha bright reputation. It seems that old news dies hard with some reviewers. I bought the 765 anyway and love the combination.

We decided to follow the Marantz SR7002 route and the results are very good. The receiver/Athena speakers combination seems to be very good. The end result is much more refined and the SQ improved a lot.

I missed this discussion until just now, but I think you made a good decision going with the Marantz. I have mine hooked up to a 7200 and love it!

Is anyone running the Audition F1's as surrounds? I am currently running f2's in the front, b1's as surrounds, and c1 as a center. I can get a set of f1's for a decent price right now.

Thoughts?
They'd be fine as surrounds as long as you don't have any furniture blocking the drivers thus impacting the sound. I use some towers as surrounds in my Jamo system and I like it.

As you know not a whole lot goes to the surrounds speakers in movies so it might be overkill for you. But bigger surrounds are great for concert dvds and multichannel music.

I may be purchasing an entire Athena surround setup, but I only want the main speakers (AS-F2). Is anyone interested in the leftovers:

2 x AS-B1 bookshelf
1 x AS-C1 center
1 x AS-P300B sub
1 x Yamaha HTR-5660 receiver

I have been enjoying my S3/P3 combos in my main system, and think the F2s will be good for my secondary system. Just don't have a need for all the extras in this set-up, but the price is right.

If anyone has two Athena S.5 speakers for sale, let me know.

I just upgraded my amp to a 7.1 and would love to get two more speakers that match the Athena speakers I currently have.

Thanks

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has a ws-60 that they would be willing to part with. (For purchase obviously) Just bought a new receiver and need a center to go with my ws 100s. I am desparate!
Apologies if this is inappropriate, but seeing as everyone is buying/selling their Athenas in this thread, I just thought I would let everyone know that I am selling my S.5 setup. I have 5 S.5 speakers and a C.5 center for a 6.1 setup (with your own subwoofer). All working and in reasonable shape after 5 years or so of usage. I have the box and the manuals. Local to Boston area only. PM if interested.

Is the AS-C1 still available. I have the athena F1's and would love the matching center!

Thanks! These centers are so hard to find and I would hate to have to buy a whole new front setup just to get a matching center.
good luck, hope you can get that one.

Just got an email back from the seller....already sold it

Are you still looking for the center channel? I have a very nice condition AS-C1 and some mint condition AS-R1 bipole surrounds.

How did you wire two B2s? Did you use a serial or parallel to the center channel output?

My setup is:

2 x F2 Mains
2 x B1 Height
1 x C1 Center
2 x B2 Rears
1 X P400 Sub

The C1 gets a lot of sound from my receiver and it is clearly not as good as the F2s, So I'm looking for a way to improve the middle.

I split the signal from my processor 2 rca's from amp 125 watts to each speaker.
